Sounds stupid but it feels like this has been coming for a while. He needs banning for a long time if not police involvement, I get hockey is a passionate sport but to attack someone off the ice is beyond a hockey incident and needs an example setting of.

Not least because of the stupidly lax set-up they have at 'The Most Versatile Arena' with regards access to/from their locker rooms. Not excusing Mr Potato Head in the slightest, the guy is a tube and (based on that footage at least) I hope the league hammer him, but the poor rink to locker room security at Hull isn't a new thing and hardly helps alleviate the chances of this sort of thing happening.

Crazy crazy antics! #headacheforhanson
This has got to be a huge ban! No place for it anywhere in professional sport although the term professional is used very lightly when referring to Derek Campbell. I agree with the above though. Where's the security? I feel Derek and Hull should both have punishments for this.

It started out as great stuff, old time hockey.
What follows is what happens when you try to eradicate fighting from a game with traditions and players who are used to sorting things out on the ice. Also teams not employing enforcers are leaving themselves and their players exposed to the likes of Campbell who's not even that tough but will take advantage if there is no one to stop him. This combined with the ticking time bomb of no security, I've been saying this for years. Security at some of the rinks is less than none league football. Having said that, jumping someone off the ice in the crowd is cowardly and unprofessional. The police should be involved and a ban needs issuing to send a message to players and clubs that this is unacceptable.
But look what happened last season and very little was done. Will it take a fan to be seriously injured or take out a lawsuit against the league before they do something???
I wonder what if says in the rule book about players getting kicked out joining the crowd? Surely they have to stay in the dressing room? Oh, we don't have a rule book, do what you want. Beer league.

Not sure any league has rules about players "joining the crowd"(?), they have rules about fighting off the ice though, which is more relevant here. www.eliteleague.co.uk/eihl-rules--s12541

What does 'ordered to the dressing room' entail? As has was ordered, but then came out again. Doesn't he have to stay in the dressing room until the game is over?

I tweeted about this yesterday, When a similar incident happened in Cardiff a few years ago, Knight (Hull) & Voth (Devils) sat for 5 games each.
They were assessed 1 game for fighting & 1 for Travesty of the Game + 3 more awarded for not going straight to the dressing room. In addition they had a further 6 game suspension suspended for the remainder of the season.
Therefore, as per league rules (unless they've changed) he will sit for min. of 5, 3x failure to go straight to the dressing room, 1x Excessive Roughness & 1x Travesty to Game

For me 10 + 6 Suspended, just to make an example. Hull have previously stuck with players through bans (Kozak) so maybe he isn't done in this league (unlike Sheppard, Cairns, Mcorley?) Personally, I wouldn't. he becomes a target for other teams / officials to target. sort of like Voth, Shmyr, Penner and Wilson to a degree. As much as I am against this incident, I hope that it isn't used to take away the "rougher" side of the sport where its needed.

When the Sheffield nettie did similar, he didn't even get a warning, let alone a ban, so that's the precedent isn't it?

Back to EPHell for Soupy? Would whatever ban he gets carry over to the EPL? I reckon so. Campbell can't really stay here, it's difficult to see what sort of a future he has in British Ice Hockey after this latest boo boo.

Would whatever ban he gets carry over to the EPL? There is no Affliation and different rules so shouldn't. The EPIHL is IIHF-affiliated so by all rights any team signing him should have to swallow his ban. As mentioned previously, Mr Potato Head had to sit out when he signed in Shuff for a ban he picked up in Australia. I suggested he might look towards the EPIHL purely because I believe he is based in the UK, he must be soiled goods in the EIHL now and also because, being a less import heavy league, teams in the UK's 'development league' may be able to swallow his ban easier. How come he had to sit out a ban when he signed for Sheffield that he picked up in Australia? Because bans carry between IIHF-affiliated leagues. At least they're supposed to!

Forward Derek Campbell has been banned for 47 matches following a mandatory review by the Rapid Solicitors Elite League head of discipline Moray Hanson.
Campbell was given a match penalty for excessive roughness in the third period (54:55) of Hull Stingrays' game with Dundee Stars on Saturday 5th October 2013.
In addition, there was an off-ice incident involving Campbell after he had been escorted off the ice towards the dressing room.
Listed below is a breakdown of the suspensions...
Fighting off the ice = 15 matches Attempted eye gouge = 12 matches Knee to the head = 10 matches Excessive force to the head resulting in an impact to the ice = 10 matches
One match of the 47 was served in Hull's game at Dundee on Sunday 6th October 2013.
Hanson said: "There are many aspects to this serious incident and that is why I have broken it down into separate sections.
"I have studied the game tape in great detail and I have spoken with the three officials, who all were able to give me detailed reports.
"This is a very nasty incident and there is no place for any of these actions in our sport."

Wow! Thought it would be big but not 47!
Tight on Hull having to see out the season with an import down... Assuming they dont bother signing anyone for any few games they may have after the next 46
