From the OS
AMERICAN DEFENCEMAN FLIES IN
American Defenceman Nick Anderson is flying to the UK today to provide cover for the injured Eric Werner.
Nick, 34, is from Minnesota and played at the University of Minnesota-Duluth before turning pro for three seasons in the East Coast Hockey League with Las Vegas. After that he spent three years in Germany and then the last two seasons in Italy at Pontebba and last year in Valpellice where was an Italian Cup champion.
He also picked up awards in Germany, twice, as the defenceman who scored he most goals. He can also play forward.
At six feet tall and 201lbs the paperwork is at an advanced stage and he is expected to debut on Saturday in the big cup game against the Sheffield Steelers in Nottingham at the Capital FM Arena.
Said Panthers' head coach Corey Neilson: "We snagged his signature and within hours he was packed and heading for the airport so his commitment to the cause is there for all to see. He's enthusiastic to join us, and he understands the circumstances that led to his recruitment. He'll be thrown in at the deep end with the Sheffield game but he knows European hockey and he has a North American background too."

At such short notice he looks a decent pick up!

Hopefully a keeper. (Not of the netminder kind!)

Great work by the club. Well down to all invlolved.
Looks a very decent player and would be a brilliant 12th import to keep for the season as he can from on D or up front.
Welcome to Nottingham Nick. What a 1st game for him!

His stats look reasonable (always hard to judge with a D-man):- <stats>

So how come his paper work will be all done in 6 days, but other players it has taken weeks ( Werner for example)

So how come his paper work will be all done in 6 days, but other players it has taken weeks ( Werner for example) I think for 3 months you do not need a Visa. If he were to stay longer then he has to go back home and apply for a visa. The same as one of our players from last season did.

I'd be very happy (but realise it is unlikely to happen) if we could keep him as cover for the rest of the season!

No reason why it can't happen looks a very good pick up at short notice . I can see him staying for the remainder of season tbh
Well done Corey and management in acting quickly

Couple of years at quite a low German level is a little glitch, but as with Szwez, there may be a bigger picture. Last 2 years in the Italian top league shouts "quality". Assuming he's been keeping relatively fit, he looks like he'll do a nice job for us.

Can't fault this one really - top marks to all involved on getting a guy that looks like a decent pick up at such short notice.
Agree with ftm in that he'd be a great spare to carry too bearing in mind he can play forward as well as on D

Lol Stef... Not sure but it sure is a baptism of fire this weekend. Looks like he could know Matt Ryan, played in the same league in Italy last year, and possibly knows of Lyons & Capraro.

Looks a good pick-up. Just hope he's given time to settle in by our fans.
He's got MASSIVE shoes/skates to fill.

I only hope that he has he has mobility as we often get caught out on the counterattack. This also does put pressure on the young Brits Lee and Norton, who I think have improved a lot when I have seen them this season.

You are right Lee and especially Norton have improved greatly. I was worried about Norton but having been to Scotland he has shown me that he is maturing fast.

He can certainly score some goals............but can he play D though ?
Because for the last ten years he has played or is listed as playing as a right winger !!!!!!

Where did you find that (Hockey DB?), because I've had a look on Elite Prospects through all the squads he has been on and he has always been listed as a d-man?

Nottingham Post "Panthers have been quick to move for a replacement for Werner with another American, former winger Nick Anderson."
