Ashley will probably get one if he stays at Coventry another season. Jon Weaver would probably get one at some other clubs but not here. I prefer the Panthers way of doing testimonials and shirt retirements. Some clubs give out testimonials and retire shirts for how long a players career has been and not for service to the individual club. Stephen Cooper had his shirt retired by Coventry yet he only played there for a couple of seasons. I'm a fan of the way football and cricket give out testimonials you have to have played for the club for at least 10 seasons to get one. All the Panthers players apart from Greg who have had testimonials have played for the club for 10 or more seasons. That's interesting stuff I didn't know about Cricket etc... But could be a bit unfair on an individual who has played more games/seasons all told in a sport but not having been with one club for a certain period. It does look a bit strange eg) in the Stephen Cooper scenario, esp. if the retired shirt may end up in a rink not associated as much, but a testimonial perhaps should be granted by the governing body say and then perhaps played in a more convenient rink/arena if possible. Yet going back to a club you played your main quota pf seasons after a not so amicable split is a bit awkward...lol The point with Weaver is ,if he didn't go back to a club he played most for (if that club still existed) he might miss out.Reason I suggest agreement that he is deserved one and ,as you say, have it at the most appropriate club. Would not complain if he had one here in celebration of his years in hockey but it would be less of an event than last nights. To add .... I have TWO testimonial programs for Steve Moira which hits on both points. One from Basingstoke 2000 and one from Cardiff 2012. then again he is about 150 years old..

It was good seeing the old players again....although the helmet Barry was wearing made him look like he was playing water polo!
Corey getting a penalty for coming out retirement was brilliant, I think you could see he had told the Panthers players...don't do anything that could get you injured....please

Spik I would say that for players who have achieved a lot for the game in this country both nationally and internationally like Jon Weaver then there is already a way of recognising their achievements and that is by them being inducted into the Hall Of Fame after they have retired. I still think that a testimonial should only be granted by a club for outstanding service to that club.
Steve Moria having had 2 testimonials years apart just seems to make a mockery of why you have a testimonial.

the helmet Barry was wearing made him look like he was playing water polo! A good old Jofa helmet which you don't seem to see these days. Wayne Gretzky wore one throughout his career, which is a bit of a coincidence as he and Nieckar have a very similar playing style.

Steve had 10 seasons with Cardiff and 5 with Basingstoke. Now I have to think. Has anyone done 5 seasons and had a testimonial , which would make Bison's honour more acceptable. I know we had Hadden acclaimed after 7 (was it?). Yet several have done that many seasons and some not acknowledged have done more, can only conclude its more than just games played in that sense.

Yes, but Hadden's 7 seasons set a unique and memorable record... being the only player to have played for the same club for all 7 seasons that the ISL was in existence. Being the ISL's all-time top goalscorer as well may have had something to do with it as well... point being, Hadden's contribution was both massive and unique.
