For stats peeps like me.Not at the game tonight and this can also go for most away games.....
MODS
Can we do an 'Add and scratch' list from the original signed team list somewhere in this game thread in future?
EG) Apart from NORTON being missing from the programme inner scoresheet pages tonight.
We can say for todays game. ADD...Bowley,Ferrera.L and Hook. Delete...Gospel,Benedict,Ling,Fox,Tuma and Werner.
Obviously won't be as long as that for most games but its a simple way of acknowledging who dressed for the game, without having to list all

If someone wants to supply a list then it can be added to the opening post I'm sure.
For the game, thought it was ok, nothing more, Kowalski's goal the highpoint. No point drawing any conclusions on the players, too early and too many missing.

No point drawing any conclusions on the players, too early and too many missing. From the Elite League Rosters thread Panthers have 20 players. All that has to be done is to pen any scratches OR additions from that list. The names can be put on the GDT game thread header post game.Rather than having to write all 20 names. Or indeed if we have a post game thread.Have it under the opening title/score.

Yeah I'm OK to do that, I just won't personally know who was added/scratched (I normally miss that bit). I've added the list for this one.

I've been on a night out after the game but heres my bit.
first 10 mins were poor. no other way of putting it, we were bad. aftr this we seemed to dominate large parts of the game. overall i was very impressed considering we were missing an entire line of players (some of our best as well). our special teams really developed as well as the game went on.
Player analysis:
K-wall- poor first 10 mins but after that as we're used to.
Neilson- logged less mins than usual i think, ditto for kwall Lee- played a decent game (gotta say i forgot he had a shot on him) Weaver- played well, heard him shouting commands all game (always a good thing imo) Was used mainly on the powerplay and looked dangerous. if he's used this way all season he could be a real asset. Becket- gotta say he wasn't overly impressive. hope he was just blowing the cobwebs off. will watch him closely tomorrow to see if things improve. seemed to have decent speed for a big guy and good hand at times. but some bad moments of desision making (the gifted goal sticks out). Norton- Was very impressed. looks to have really matured imo, seems much more powerful and confident on the puck. Still has a long way to go but defo one to watch for the future, could be a real star. Lacho- first off looks bigger and stronger than last season (does anyone else agree or not with this). played well expecting big things from him this season. played well with francis and gally. Franis- didn't look off pace at all imo. was making good movs and creating plays for his line mats only confirmed what a good signing he is tonight. Gally- People keep saying he was quiet however i feel he's just what we need. alway looking for space waiting for a pass to come to him. when the team gels abit more i can see him being a real threat. had a great finish for his goal! trying not to get ahead of myself, but he looks a like for like replacement for DAB. Levers- Although he did a great job for us on defence last season, tonight he showed us why he should be on a forward line. worked non-stop and forechecked like a beast (was rewarded with a goal) a solid candidate for mom along with francis for me. cant fault his performance, just keep it up all season levers. Graham- didn't watch him closley enough tonight so say much (was watching the other new guys tonight) seemed to have quick hands for such a big guy, but didn't move an awful lot. will pay more attention in the second game. Myers-had a decent game nothing more. Clarke- Looked rusty, and couldn't hit a barn door in first period. however seemed to have retained that pysical play fron last season, which was good to see. I have no dout he'll be back to his usual self in the season.
Others: Ferra- thought he played well and didn't look out of place at all. 26 (sorry dont know your name)- impressed me looked like he had his head in the game, defo one to keep an eye on for the future. 41 (sorry dont know your name)- didn't really see enough to make a comment.
overall was very happy. after Asiago's third goal went in i though we were gonna get smashed (i didn't expect us to win this game in the first place) however we regrouped and came back. we controled large parts of the 5 on 5 after the first period, and our special teams massively improved as the game went on. All this and we were missing an entire line (a top line i will add).
it's only 1 game, but we showed signs of what we are capable of. I'd be worried if i were other teams. I'll report back on the secind game, where i'll be watching becket, tuma and graham more closely.

Can't be bothered to re-type, so here's my take on the game, a post on THF initially replying to the question " How did Weaver play?":- Like there hadn't been an off-season... as in, he was smooth. Good skating, good positioning, launched a couple of wicked shots... looked very comfortable out there. I confess that I was (and still am, slightly) a bit worried about the signing of Weaver... will he last the season, have his legs gone, etc? No doubting his ability (not after watching him play for GB so much) just the overall health & fitness. OK, it's early days yet, it's the start of the season... but if he keeps on like this, he is going to be a rock-solid part of this team. We were missing Tuma and Werner on D (although the former arrived at the start of the game and will play in the second game today) so all the blueliners had to step it up somewhat... and all of them did. After the first few minutes anyway. As for the game itself and the team as a whole... it was a bad, bad first period (the first 10-15 minutes especially)... the Panthers looked uncoordinated and a total mess (perhaps not surprising, missing no less than 5 imports, including what may be our entire first line!) and Asiago took full advantage. The Italians were, as expected, good skaters, nicely coordinated with good passing and movement... and to start with, we just couldn't cope. They went 3-0 up in fairly short order, and it was looking like a long night for us Panthers fans... The first Asiago goal was a classic - drew K-Wall to on side of his net then a deft pass to an Italian at the far post and quick tap-in. Perfectly worked. The second was caused by an absolute howler from Beckett which gave them a quick breakaway. The third? - I think K-Wall was screened, there were a whole load of players in a scrum in front of him. All 3 Asiago goals from good work by them. The fightback started with a trademark Corey Neilson howitzer from the blueline late in the first, but even that didn't look like it was going to change the course of play. Whatever was said in the room during the first break seemed to have an effect... the Panthers came out strong in the second and looked a hell of a lot more like a team. Graham got the second goal (I don't remember much about that one), but the one that seemed to me to change the whole atmosphere of the game was Marc Levers forechecking on the penalty kill, hassling the Asiago netminder into fluffing his puckhandling, and stealing it to sneak it in the net. 3-3, and unassisted shorthander, and that seemed to lift us and break them a little. At the time I thought that was going to be the best goal of the game... boy was I wrong! The Panthers website has Levers scoring the 4th as well with a long-range slapshot, but I could have sworn it was Tom Norton - never mind, it was a good one and gave us the lead. Galivan got the 5th... good hands on him, he was touted as being Beauregard's replacement, and I can see that being the case if he carries on as he looked last night. But it's the 6th Panthers goal which is going to be forever remembered... Asiago pull their netminder, and the puck comes to K-Wall. Instead of sliding it out to one of his blueliners, it's obvious he wants a crack at goal, and I saw at least one Panthers player hustle to get out of the way. Can't be easy making such a long shot with a cumbersome goalie stick, but he put his back into it, lofted it high and long and we all cheered the puck as it went straight down the ice into the empty net. Beautiful... a goalie goal is a rare thing, and I don't care if it was 'only' a challenge game... that was a great thing to see. So - all other teams beware, we're looking to have even more offensive depth than before, even our netminder is scoring goals! ;D Sexy Neilson hockey, eh? Stars of the game for me (apart from MoM K-Wall, of course) were Francis and Levers, both of whom forechecked like a beast. I'm hoping that Corey keeps the line of Francis, Galivan & Lachowicz together... they looked nicely coordinated - fast, skilful and relentless. Lacho doing nicely, continuing his habit of pickpocketing the puck off surprised opponents... Galivan quiet but effective, and Francis just an absolute monster out there - SO glad he re-signed for us! As for the other new guys... Beckett looked shaky at first, made a couple of bad errors but seemed to settle down later on. Looks like he may have a nasty streak to him, which could be useful if not taken too far. Bruce Graham won several face-offs, but apart from that didn't impress me much to start with - seemed a bit slow and lumbering... maybe I wasn't watching him at the right times? Nice to see Josh Ward back, he's looking bigger and stronger - think he's going to make a solid contribution to the team this season. Overall... hell, it was just a challenge match, first game of the new season and with a bunch of players missing. We can't draw too many solid conclusions from it. But overall... I'd say that gives us a nice feeling. We'll know a little more after the second game later today (will help with having one of our late arrivals playing) but it's next weekend with Hull away and Dundee at home that are going to give us our real first glimpse... the real tough test coming in 2 weeks time with the home double-header against Belfast. We shall see...

Also, I'd like to put a bad incident that turned into a real class act
in the first period, the puck flew into the crowd (I think it was block 6 or 7) and hit a girl who can't have been much older than 4 or 5 on the head. She was gone awhile but did come back. At the end of the game, Weaver took a goalie stick over to her and gave it to her. Now I think it could be Kowalski's goal scoring stick and if it is, it was very classy of Kowalski and Weaver to do that. Even if it's not the goal scoring stick, very classy of Weaver to do it

Panthers Hockey Live will be covering the game from 4pm today (Sunday)
we have added a second twitter account to cope with overflow. Those following us should also follow @nphockeylive2 as well.
We will switch to the second account should the need arise in future,. but if you are following both accounts then you will be fine.
Thanks for all the positive tweets from last night and nice comments who continued to follow us on facebook for the third period.
we have a few cross posting issues to sort out but as a first run out, (techie issues aside) I was quite pleased with the coverage, especially as it was Andy and Ants first LIVE game.
Cheers
Iain

Well, after a sceptical first break, thought we did ok. There's no rush to judge, but on the positive side, Weaver looks a touch of absolute class. If he logs about 20 minutes anight instead of 30+, he should be fine. Considering we were missing probably at least 4/5ths of our "starting 5", thought we did grand. Norton did indeed get that goal. None more surprised than him, except for the Asiago ex NHL goalie...! And the first goalie goal I've ever seen in 23 years of hockey! Although I have seen a penalty goal awarded in an NHL game. And there can't be that many of them.
TBF to Asiago, they were probably missing at least 3 or 4 imports too. Layne Ulmer looks the business, though.
Given this and the Panthers short bench, I'm not sure it was "right" to make it a "normal price" game. And I'm not amazed to see the Panthers merchandise is its normal woeful self. But that's a whole other story.

Great entertaining game last night! Was'nt expecting a win to be honest, especially being down 4 imports. Tonight should be very interesting, Asiago seemed to get irritated when we started to take the upper hand. I thought we were a good match for them considering they are meant to be from a higher standard league to ours. Pat Galivan is going to be a quality player in the league this season, brilliant puck control and skills going round opposition players! Can't wait to see Ling in action!

Craig Kowalski's goal was worth the ticket money for both days! Great performance from the boys short benched. I think Corey's decision to retire to the bench at some point this season could be crucial as I thought he was excellent. Beckett was shaky but progressed as the game went on. Ferrara is definitely worth trying to negotiate a two way deal for. I thought James wasn't too bad when he played for us either.
I was sat on the same row as the girl who got hit by the puck and it was extremely nasty, the same girl fell down the stairs before the game so she had been in the wars bless her. Weaver had sent the penalty box keeper to see if she was ok as all of the guys were worried. I think it was a goalie stick blade that he brought over at the end along with the game puck, a very nice touch.

I don't know how to attach to other comments sorry. But for those who have mentioned it, it was my neice that got hit by the puck. She is ok and never stopped talking on the way home so she is fine. She has a lump and a mark luckily it didn't cut her. The stick that Weaver gave her is a goalie stick with a message by Jon to say sorry and signed by the rest of the team. He even asked during the 3rd if she was ok. Comment of the night from her was " told you i would get a puck tonight mummy".

She was hot so the ice melted. Also she could hold it and eat sweets at the same time so the ice came 2nd best.
