Good sold win for the first game of the season, we look to have some real firepower going forward and look a lot more solid defensively than last year.
Ling scored two sublime goals and his general play was fantastic, Graham also looked class I thought, when Benedict get's here it will only help make the forwards even better..scary thought for the opposition I would think!
Thought Stars started well but ran out of gas by the second...once our first went in it was only going to be a matter of time before a few more were scored...however the Stars netminder looked pretty good and made some great saves.
Just a shame there was no intro video...no banner stage end and the team didnt get on the ice for ages...all looked a bit amateurish to be honest!

Solid win but that was by far the dullest first home game of the season I've ever seen.
Ling reminded me of Richardson - little and always yapping - but scored a couple of goals Bruce would never have scored. Having said that, didn't do a lot the rest of the game.
Graham looks like he could be absolutely unstoppable - players bouncing off him - but really looks like he needs a shot of adrenaline or something to get him going. If he played with Ling's attitude there's no way he'd be in this league.
Didn't really notice much of the d which is probably a good thing, but Werner was caught out of place a few times. Weaver looked good though - definitely looked fit and sharp, and has always had class.

2 well taken goals from Ling - at least one involving Fox - a lethal combination, while Clarke does what he does well - popping up to add the finishing touch. Matt Myers arrived at the right time for his goal and nearly repeated this. 56 shots to 18 in favour of Panthers tells the story. A silly give a way goal- I think from Werner, but a couple of good runs from him in the 3rd period. I though Ward and Levers both did well over the 2 matches and the versatility of Levers to fill in in defence adds to his value. There are some potent attacking lines, with real talent, but I still feel a bit apprehensive at times when we are defending. The longer the game went on the better the cohesion, which is what one would expect. A good start overall, with a great weekend coming up which will be testing.

We limit a team to 18 shots and people are worried about our defense? I thought we were solid throughout. Though Beckett was a bit disapointing. Really impressed with Werner and Ling

I see apart from TUMA that NORTON was the only scratch today.Apart from the obvious GOSPEL for goal. Is Norton playing dual with another team ,I can't recall. Just seems odd him being part of the squad (as mentioned) and looks like he may be void of Ice time with the Panthers. Not even worth a mention in the programme score sheet pages. So will be virtually an addition rather than a scratch.
I did see some sort of intro eventually on the screen.Same old music etc...etc...

Norton plays for Peterborough but is on a 2-way with us so will play for us when he can either during the week or the odd occasion when the Phantoms don't have a game on the weekend

I thought Dundee looked good and in particular Riopel was superb. I think they'll have a strong season this time around which can only be good for the league as a whole.
As for us I thought we looked promising, quick and skillful, reminded me very much of the European style of play I've seen on occasion.

Much better performance than last night I thought, defence looked fairly solid and some excellent forward play, Ling's second goal was class after a great pass from Fox. And how chippy was Ling, in their goalie's face all night, taking a drink from his water bottle, knocking his stick out of his hand and mouthing off at all and sundry. He's going to get under the skin of many an oppostion player this season.
Thought Carson had a decent game too. Probably the best ref in the league now.

jamesPhilly - thanks for the correction - I could not quite see who it was. Pies - the comment about the defence is based on 2 nights and you also say you are worried about Beckett. I did like Werner over the 2 nights and Weaver has slotted in well. I am just reserving judgement until we have played more matches and hope that the defence holds against the likes of Giants Steelers and Cov.

I think Dundee started very well but faded off. Its a good job that rebound from Clarke came off as that just seemed to kick start our game. I don't think we look particularly quick and looked off pace at time especially going back. Against the top teams I can see us giving away a few odd man rushes and we could be punished. Werner was good and didn't do anything wrong which is all you can ask for in the D. Beckett always seems slow to start but then grows into the game and was good. Ling is exactly as expected although a little smaller than I thought he would be. But that will not effect him at panthers, hes a good little agitator aswell as goalscorer, he took his goals beautifully. Fox's hit on Ryhanen was sweeeeet aswell so nothing has changed with him. Graham seems really quiete but has got great hands and is very good at face offs, so with him, fox and francis on the face offs we can't go wrong. Good first league game not more I would have asked for other than a shut out for K-Wall but thats being picky . There netty was very good and should have got there MOM for me, I liked the look of Harper though he seems a very handy brit. Over and out.

A solid, if unspectacular, first League win of the season.
Francis was the bundle of fiery energy we have come to expect, and Foxy looks to be relishing his role as Captain, leading by example.
Agree with others that Graham was really impressive in his puck handling; strength and positional play, and I've really taken to Ling - very skillful on the puck, with good vision, and a talent for winding people up - particularly netminders, by the look of it - a Rolls Royce version of Bruce Richardson!
Can't let the game pass without some comment on the match night presentation, which was absolutely shambolic!
Dundee out on the ice for a good 5-10 minutes, as the intro to the Panthers entrance builds - Paws appears through the smog at the stage end, and Ken announces the team onto the ice and ..... nothing!
Then I had a flashback to my youth watching Harry Corbett and Sooty on TV, when Harry used to tell the audience that Sooty wouldn't come out until they shouted and applauded louder - I just knew the team's non-appearance was all our fault!
Ken announces them again ..... nothing!! I think that somebody had better paint some big paw prints in the corridor from Pantherworld to the entrance, or oil the locks on the door to Pantherworld!
The goal comes off its moorings in the 1st period, and requires the attention of rink maintenance man, who takes the ice to the stunning announcement of "Now that's a drill!" - I'm glad you told me Ken - thanks!
Without Stef to do the formal announcing, we again had Ken announcing "GOAL for the Panthers - scored by No.19 ................................ silence - but you could sense him frantically checking his programme to see what No.19's first name was - PMSL!!
I think at one point, we were treated to the enlightening information that Dundee were from Scotland, and at the start of the 3rd period, it was announced that it was the start of the 2nd!!!!
We were promised something different for the Game Night presentation this year, and we certainly saw that tonight!

Agreed Mythosman the presentation was awful. To say this is a sport built around Match night presentation we had ZILCH !
Wheres the entrance video ... we have to listen to the same song we had last year but with no video. Overall the presentation was just woeful.

Thought as a whole we made that a bit harder than we had to. We stuggled to get going, especially in the first.
Dont know what to put it down to, guys not gelling? or just unfamiliarity, difficult to call so early on.
Samis goal really well taken but you have to kind of expect it due to the fact hes probably scored that same goal a hundred times in training last year!
Bit of a dull game in fairness.
Glad to see Graham was going for hits, fox laying the body about, I wasnt really overly concerned with any particular player, jus ta bit more urgency from the team as a whole is needed I think.
Reckon we will get punished by hard forechecking teams if we play like that.
Stand out for me though, Ling. I dont know how many people really understood exactly how much disrespect he was showing by casually sipping the goalies waterbottle! I loved it, he was throwing elbows and giving some dirty digs off the play. Opposition teams are gonna HATE him.
Brilliant player as well, his second goal was just brilliant, hardly any effort to fake out as he took it centre ice then hammered it home.
Dundee were just what I expected really. Little below average, goalie looked alright at times with a flashy glove. had over a 90% save percentage I think Im right in saying? Not a MOM performance IMO, did what he had to.

Agree about the match night presentation, absolutely woeful. All summer they've been banging on about the double double but nothing in the arena to commemorate it, in fact nothing to denote the arena as our home at all. And the two announcers, never been my favourites but tonight sounded like they'd been dragged in off the street to do the job. The team announcement at the beginning was just embarrassing and how many times will the clown ask for a round of applause for the ice dancer when almost the entire crowd is doing just that?
The arena has been our home for over ten seasons now, it's about time it felt like it,.

Benedict hopefully back soon followed by Tuma. Norton and Gospel out for obvious reasons.

Graham stood out for me tonight, slowest player on our team by a country mile, reckon Kowalski could skate faster than him, but his shear presence is amazing. Using him to hinder the keepers vision is very effective and players cannot shift him. Also agree on his puck-handling, he may have given it away once or twice if that the whole game. Defence isn't noticeable until we play Belfast next weekend where they'll get a better challenge. Not the most beautiful start to the season (especially with the announcing) however a win is a win and thats all that matters!!

Here's my take on the new guys, agree/disagree whatever,
Graham: Jonny on the spot and difficult to move around, nice touch and can reach Myers's wayward passes. I think he will turn out to be a Bergin type of character (sans fighting) not pretty but should get a shed loads of points. Ling: Fluffed a few chances but settled in, his second goal showed his class and if he can do that once or twice a game, happy days. Werner: Thought he looked better vs Hull but has a nice touch and can break forward when needed. Galivan: Worked well with Franny but Franny is definitely the emphasis on that line. Beckett: Slow start but think he will be a soild stay at home Dman. Weaver: Not Meyers. Big Plus. ;-)
