how do we all rate Darnell's performance in the final ? By comparison to the usual standard of refereeing in PO finals, whereby the refs usually only call the blindingly obvious. However to his credit he didn't let the occasion or the time of the offence dictate his calls, and if nothing else he got two calls absolutely spot on. Firstly, by waiting a fraction of a second when the puck landed on the net behind Murphy, and secondly the too many men call which it would have been easy to turn a blind eye to. All in all I think he had a good game.

Wouldn't go as far as saying he had a good game. Some odd calls went against us i thought, in particular:- Two calls for hooking - one on Beckett in particular was awful; he was having his stick held, tugged it out from under the Giants players arm who then theatrically fell over resulting in the hooking call. The call on Galivan for tripping - ridiculous, clearly nicked the puck but Tom Daley (or whoever it was) took one and up went the arm. Roughing on Kelsey Wilson - great hit in the corner, out comes the sniper and down goes Lloyd. Surely each team should be allowed one free smash on Lloyd per game? Noticeable on the 'too many men' call that Big Doug who is know for his arm waving and histrionics just stood there, hanging his head in shame. He knew it. Personally, i believe that there's nobody better than good ole Moray for games like this. As a side note, did Hicks not do the game because he got injured on Saturday or was Darnell first choice. Odd if he was.

A couple of faults he and other GB refs have is that they are slow to tun round, and miss stuff taking place behind them. As to yesterday, the interference call on Beckett was an easy option as Beckett did impede Lloyd's progress, and the resulting theatrical dive makes it hard not to give it. But I agree, no-one from the Giants made any real complaint, whereas with other teams we would have seen mocking gestures, flying sticks and clipboards, sarcastic applause etc aimed in his direction.

He was terrible , completely ignored a stick to Bruce's face and he was stood ten feet away when it happened.
Called the most nothing penalties against us and nothing against Belfast unless it was so blatantly obvious that he'd have looked ridiculous on TV ignoring it.

Thought he was poor yesterday at the game and having watched the Sky coverage my opinion hasn't changed. Got conned by Belfast's theatrics far too easily.

I'd expect the decision on the referee for the final to have been made on the basis of their performance on Saturday by their assessor/supervisor.

Fox told him about the too many men, otherwise he wasn't going to call it.

The worst call all weekend was the 'elbows' call on Lepine in the semi.

Personally thought Darnell did well. Is that his first playoff final?
Thought he got the big calls right, yes did call a few soft ones but he kept a good control on a feisty game that could have easily boiled over.
With the Playoff final and CC final its obvious he's highly rated. He's quite inconsistent (i thought he had a poor CC final) but he's young and should keep learning, then experience will come. He's also quite a good one to follow on twitter imo

The Galivan tripping call was ridiculous,a perfect interception and won the puck clean as a whistle, and the resulting PP gave Devils a goal.
Missed a big elbow to Matt Myers chin in front of block 4,then five seconds later put Wilson in the box for a huge but fair check and called it roughing !
Clarkie punched Langlais in a stoppage right in front of Panthers net with Darnell looking straight at it and he called nothing,Clarkie was a lucky boy.
Giants too many men call, spot on but even the most one eyed Steeler fan couldn't have argued that one. Credit to Darnell for calling it in O/T though, that was a big call and he could easily have bottled it.
Did he have a bad game,no a pretty reasonable one, just a bit too inconsistent.

The lack of call when Graham took the high stick was shocking, looked like there was even some blood on the ice from where I was sitting in block 12.

Fox told him about the too many men, otherwise he wasn't going to call it. Shouldn't it be the linesmen calling the too many men and not the ref? I think he did well and tried to let the game flow. Seems to be doing a few international tournaments too so the iihf must think well of him.

Just because the linesman CAN call too many men it doesn't mean that the ref can't. the referee can also call any of the other lino's responsibilities as well if he so wishes.
