Well done on pipping us to the conference title.
Well Cardiff might sneak through to the POFW yet again!! I fancy them to beat Braehead

All winning the conference shows is how those losses to Gardiner conference sides scuppered the league campaign.

Just got back from Sheffield. Went to see the game as Cardiff was too far on a Sunday for me. Very ill-tempered game that threatened a bench clearance twice. Sheffield were poor and never really looked like scoring. Belfast were the better side and deserved the win. Hicks caused a lot of hassle but he got the PS spot on.

Don't win anything for this Has this been confirmed anywhere? I was asking about this yesterday and no one seems to know! I wouldn't be terribly disappointed if we won nothing else this season, but it would be nice to know if we're still on for a Grand Slam or not (there is a precedent here - Belfast finished top of the cross-league table the year of the EIHL/BNL inter league games - but it is recognised that Coventry won a Grand Slam).

Can you tell me why Belfast win the conference as we have the same points and we have won more regulation games?

Can you tell me why Belfast win the conference as we have the same points and we have won more regulation games? We have won 17 conference games in regulation, they have won 18.

Why congratulate them with the unbelievable abuse dished out towards the team from their fanbase after winning the league ?

Because we are normal, sporting folk. Why should we act like a few of them did just to even it out? Congratulations Belfast

Celebrating winning the title on Friday 15th March cost us the conference simples.... But like all the fans said that following day, we didn't care about the saturday result as most of us were slightly (or a lot) worse for wear & just carried on partying.
Like Braehead winning the Gardiner conference, yet could only scrape an 8th place finish. So conference title a bit worthless really. Edinburgh were the best Gardiner team as they beat all the Erhardt conference teams.

As far as I'm concerned, regardless of whether there is a trophy involved, not winning the Conference means we cannot win a Grand Slam, we did not win everything on offer. The EIHL/BNL thing was a gimmick, the conference was a legitimate part of the Elite League that we failed to win so whilst Coventry did take the Grand Slam we cannot, we lost it by finishing second in the Conference.

It's hard to argue with that logic Andy – what I find a bit strange is that on Friday night our players were talking about how it was 'one down, two to go' as far as trophies was concerned. They clearly didn't regard the conference as being of much importance which is a bit odd – especially if you do get a pot at the end of it. Never mind. A treble sounds just as nice.

It's a total mess to be honest as until this morning the EIHL had Panthers heading the conference as we'd won more game than Belfast and actually finished that way!!!. Anyway, it won't take anything away from the teams achievements and hopefully we can secure the CC and Play Offs to cap off a spectacular season.

Just seen a full table and had we beaten Cardiff in regulation on Friday we'd have won the conference too.

IMO Panthers forgot about the Erhardt amongst all the euphoria at winning the league . The GM even called Friday's game a dead rubber, then backed it up with his speach after the game. Do not have your Grand Slam Tee-Shirts printed, but be prepared for the 'TRIPLE CROWN!'.

It's a total mess to be honest That about sums it up. Assuming the tables on the league site are correct, Edinburgh are the best team from the Northern Conference (league table), but the worst team from the Northern Conference (conference table). Doesn't make a great deal of sense. I've no problem giving the high seeding to the conference winner, but let's have it go to the best team from that conference, who aren't Braehead this year. Count every game in all tables, just like the NHL, and that doesn't happen. As for us, I would've liked to win it, whether we get a tin pot for it or not. Fair play Belfast, well done.

On the two occassions the 20/20 was played during the season did anyone consider that part of a potential Grand Slam?
The Grand Slam is League, Challenge Cup and Play Offs. Always has been, always will.

Agree with James on this. The Gardner conference will be remebered amongst themselves as more of a bragging rights . But our conference will just be saying how Giants just missed out on the league and we will all forget they won the conference. This is just my opinion anyway.

On the two occassions the 20/20 was played during the season did anyone consider that part of a potential Grand Slam? The Grand Slam is League, Challenge Cup and Play Offs. Always has been, always will. So the Autumn cup never counted then? A slam has always been winning everything available to you that year. No-one was on for a slam for the 2 years the 20/20 was played so that point is mute. And when Coventry won a slam there was only 3 competitions that year.
