Hello all,
As promised - just a few details for you of what BBC Radio Nottingham is planning to do over the next few weeks.
Our intention was to be on hand whenever Nottingham have a chance to win the title, or indeed a trophy.
Next Friday and Saturday we will bring you live commentary on the Belfast double header.
We will also bring you live commentary of Nottingham versus Cardiff the following Friday and, hopefully, commentary from Cardiff on Sunday if it's needed.
We will also be in Nottingham for the second leg of the Challenge Cup final plus, as usual, at the Playoff Finals weekend for as long as the Panthers are involved.
We had hoped to bring you commentary on Sunday in Hull, IF the Panthers could win the League. However, Hull are refusing to let us broadcast.
We also can't bring you commentary on the CC Final first leg in Sheffield, because the Steelers have refused.
I think that is a real shame, and I really hope certain clubs haven't burnt their bridges with the BBC on this one. Considering the league is desperate for media coverage, I was really surprised to be turned down. I know money needs to be made, but still.
All the best,
O

Strange attitude from Hull and Steelers - particularly as Hull have virtually sold out for their game against us so they are not likely to lose any ticket revenue. Very short sighted.

Very short sighted. its pretty obvious why they are doing it though as they will want all panthers fans who cannot make it to buy their webcast for silly money.

Good on the Stingrays, it's all about their business!

It seems a little bit petty to me, but then again I'm not a business guru.

Good on the Stingrays, it's all about their business! TBH if I was stingrays I would be more bothered about getting the stingrays name out their rather than the few hundred quid they will make off a webcast.

If they sell out in Hull, will they then allow a webcast?

If they sell out in Hull, will they then allow a webcast? Hull already have a webcast for the game.

Good on the Stingrays, it's all about their business! Are people planning to buy a webcast going to decide not to, because the radio is covering it? I don't find that likely. Similar argument to people not buying tickets because they can watch the stream. I just don't see it. Anyway, it'll be NPHL for me, unless the Stingrays are gonna confiscate Outlaw's phone.

Any idea if it will be on the actual radio or just internet radio?

Totally agree with Yotes, I normally go to Hull but won`t be able to this week and will be following as usual on NPHL which is excellent and much appreciated. Presumably The BBC would pay a facilitation fee anyway and any loss of revenue is likely to be minimal. As Owen says, the sport badly needs media exposure and, in the long term, this benefits all teams. I visit Hull regularly and see very little sign of Stingrays promoting themselves locally-one company in particular, with over 100 employees, less than half a mile from the Arena and were not even aware that Hull had an Ice Hockey team until I tried to recruit a few to go to a game with me.

I find that a little unfair on the Stingrays...I travel around the country (or did until a few weeks a go); and I find that the Stingrays get excellent media coverage both in the local daily paper (Hull Daily Mail), plus coverage on KCFM and possibly on BBC Radio Humberside too so I have to ask as to what planet the company you mention above are on if they aren't aware of the Stingrays

Fair enough but as GM the GM pointed out in his excellent interview with Jono recently, successful marketing requires a co-ordinated effort on many fronts-leaflet drops, billboards, social media etc -media coverage is obviously useful in raising awareness, and I can hardly destroy my own argument by saying otherwise, but "feet on the ground" really does pay dividends in getting punters in on match nights. They have a lot of businesses nearby and, whilst voucher offers are little better than complimentary tickets, you can tempt people in by offering group discounts and I would have thought the uUnioversity an obvious target too. Their home attendances remain stubbornly static around the 750/800 mark so they need to explore other ways of getting people in.
