Theres nothing strange about it at all. His agent / employer has told him to return home as let's face it , he's kept himself fit for 3 months and I don t believe the lock out will last much longer and that's the end of it

just been on os and listened to the radio interview with stewie, i find it strange that he says he and his family loved it here and were greeted with open arms but at the end of the interview GM never thanked him for his contribution or his stay here, is there more to this than we expected or just GM being GM?

There's definitely more to this than meets the eye but lets face it, hockey fans will speculate if they aren't told the full story but they will go nuts if the full story isn't what they want to hear.
I'd lay odds on that this is a money issue. His agent may well have recalled him believing the lockout to be almost over, but if it turns out to be a false alarm he would have to re-apply for visas, work permits, flights etc and it all boils down to one thing...money. I also read somewhere that if the lockout was expected to last all season, players would become more expensive for clubs signing them in the interim. Panthers have a decent money pot, but do they have enough to viably ice an NHLer all season?

Sad to see him go, he was really starting to gel with the team. Hopefully the only good thing out of this will be the NHL season.

I'd rather have a lesser payer giving 100% than him giving 50%.

He was a Team player , not greedy at all , thought of his line mates and didn't see himself above any other player on the team. He was always there to pick kit up for a player who was in the box or sit a penalty for someone, when needed. He was a gentleman and always polite and although he didn't always agree with the refs decision , he didn't argue
Good Luck and hope the NHL is soon back playing.

Bit disappointed he didnt put up more points, but I personally thought he worked hard for the team and vast majority of the shifts .. certainly not 50% ... and was successful in winning the puck in many of the dump and chase scenarios. Good luck Anthony.

Abi, if it was about money then why has A.Stewart's brother Chris who was playing in Germany (has the same agent) gone home for exactly the same reason www.eispiraten-crimmitschau.de/site/neu/index.php?id=4657

Amazingly again in the same year, with Bill here, nothing more than his agent being prepared if the season does eventually restart. Am a little surprised other NHL players havent done the same thing.
Shame he is gone as i for one thought he did an awful lot on the ice apart from maybe score, thanks for your efforts hope things go well for you in the show....

The money bit comes into it if/when the lockout doesn't end and players are looking for contracts to see out the season...contracts a hefty bit more pricey than the ones that saw them over here thus far.

Seems Mick Holland isn't too convinced about Stewarts recall either, a snippet from the NEP is as follows - It came because of the surprise departure of NHLer Anthony Stewart, who was apparently recalled to North America by his agent. - Also notice that Bissonnette from Cardiff has pledged himself to the club till the end of the season providing the NHL doesnt get started up again. Maybe Anthony will be applying for his Visa so he can return in Jan sometime.

EMB "Maybe Anthony will be applying for his Visa so he can return in Jan sometime." With a gap between the arrival of Kelsey Wilson and Stewarts departure and the fact that Panthers have gone for KW, wouldnt expect it to be Panthers. If he does again leave US, perhaps elsewhere in Europe?

Has been put on waivers by the Kings, according to a source on Twitter, reported by Elite Prospects. Was a scratch for Kings' season opener.

Probably a move to put him into the AHL. Cant say he did much here to warrant an NHL spot... Especially when BizNasty was a scratch on the opening night.

Maybe he tried to take Sexy Neilson Hockey to the NHL and it backfired?

Stewart's off to the ahl
LOS ANGELES – The Los Angeles Kings have activated center Anze Kopitar from the non-roster list and have assigned forward Anthony Stewart to the Manchester Monarchs of the American Hockey League, Kings President/General Manager Dean Lombardi announced today.
Kopitar did not participate in training camp with the Kings. He was placed on the non-roster list on January 18 when the Kings officially set their player roster for the start of this season.
Stewart was acquired by the Kings from Carolina on January 13. He did not play in the Kings’ season opener at STAPLES Center against Chicago this past Saturday.
