Looks like our defense is going to be tested over the next few weeks - both Corey and Weaver sitting out with injuries!

And i will be the first to say makes the decision to release Meyers even more rediculous, we strengthened a rival team, shortened our own bench and now (as he is a brit and we cant bring in cover) the lack of foresight in having a longer bench of brits (a policy seem to be employed by steelers this season) we will be VERY short at the back with very little continuity from last season (who most of which according to some fans falls short even from last season).
Now we all know Meyers aint a world beater but he is experienced in our league and one of only a handful of brits that could hold down a Dman job in the EIHL this makes the decision to effectively swap the brits a pretty bad one given that Weaver was already prone to injuries from his time in coventry. Hindsight is wonderful but there are a number of factors that would give you a heads up that something like this could happen not least of which are his age and previous injury list...

Sorry but that really is the biggest load of bull I've ever heard. Weaver broke his hand blocking a shot. It's an impact injury that could have happened to anyone irrespective of their injury history (and incidentally Meyers has had injury problems over the last couple of years-since 2006-7, Weaver has played 295 games excluding playoffs and Meyers 297). As for shortening our bench, last season we played with five regular defencemen plus occasionally Norton and Maynard. This year we have six regular defencemen. We're no shorter on numbers up front either. So can you please explain how we shortened our own bench by releasing Meyers and signing Weaver?

Weaver was already prone to injuries from his time in Coventry Did Danny not have (at least) two shoulder related injuries with the Panthers? Injuries happen, Billy Ryan was signed knowing he had hip (?) problems, that season he was fine. Who's to say Danny won't suffer another shoulder injury this season? Its just unlucky that we have lost him, and Corey together for a lengthy period of time

Have to agree with jasper on this one. Weaver was lookin good, next we will be stopping Brits from blocking shot incase they get injured.

Bad news. Any chance of Norton being in for tonight's game?
D looking very short missing Neilson, Weaver and Lepine.

I blame the Steelers, it was one of their shots that did the damage wasn't it. Plus they stole Danny Meyers, shameful

A shame as I've enjoyed watching Weaver play so far this season. I can't wait for the day when something happens and Danny Meyers isn't instantly mentioned.

Would be typical if he comes back from this hand fracture then his knee starts playing up again. Injuries like that never fully heal.

This you would know of course tessier26 being a fully qualified doctor/physiopherapist.

This you would know of course tessier26 being a fully qualified doctor/physiopherapist. Basic knowledge learned from watching hospital programmes on TV! Its common for injuries like that not to heal 100%, you get scar tissue buildup etc.

I remember Paul Gascoigne suffering a cruciate knee ligament injury in 1992. (career ending usually at that time) and he went on to play another ten years, most of it at a high level. Weaver has now played nigh on a season and a half since his knee injury, so you would think that injury is well behind him. To call him 'injury prone' as texpef did, is just laughable, just look back over his career stats.

wasnt me it is the opinion of our many friends from coventry... Agreed, he had been over played with minor injuries the past few seasons and he hasn't healed fully, he's lost a lot of pace, but still has a wonderful hockey brain. But if he's on the ice against speed merchants !!!

But if he's on the ice against speed merchants !!! But... what? Can't speak much as to his play for the Blaze last season, but he certainly didn't seem to have much of a problem against the speed merchants out in Slovenia when he was playing for GB at the Worlds in April. And believe me, the "speed merchants" I saw out there made all but the fastest EIHL players look like ruddy pylons. In fact, the only player I recall seeing him have a problem with was this Japanese player who looked like he was rocket-assisted... but then the entire GB team seemed to be mentally out to lunch for that game, and said Japanese player caused major problems for the other teams as well, so... <shrugs> Granted, Weaver didn't stand out much when I saw the Blaze last season... but then again, neither did most of the Coventry team. So maybe it wasn't just him...?

So maybe it wasn't just him...? over the past few years one thing that occured with weaver is the horrendous amount of SHG we gave away, most of them involved weaver we found.( or especially last year when he was partnered with Phillips...the chuckle brothers as we called them ) maybe it was the way we were set up but he was found wanting on more than several occasions..and remember shaggy i have been watching him 25 games a season at home for the past 5 years...the decline in his performance has been noticable for us. I am not saying he is washed up, not at all, but he's not the player he was 2-3 years ago

Haha, never gonna happen Nick, never gonna happen That's what I fear. I can hear it now "I slipped over in the concourse in the second interval, why the hell did we let Danny Meyers go". Saying that, I'm still upset we let Barry Nieckar retire, we should have just locked him in the NIC. As for Weaver, I'm guessing playing in a six man D unit this season has definitely helped.

This is the reason we should have offered Meyers a contract. We should have kept both. Brits are limited so it makes simple sense, the more you have, the more eventualitites you plan for the better your chance of success. no one can argue against that.
