Once again I am flattered and touched by so many kind comments in my favour. I am in the middle of another elderly parent/fall/fracture situation. This time its more complicated because it's my mum with the fracture (leg) and she has Alzheimers, so she can't understand what she's doing in that soul-destroying Lubyanka that is the QMC. I hope to be there on Saturday, but those of you who have dealt with Alzheimers will know that you can't predict what state the person will be in from day to day, hour to hour even. Those of you who haven't experienced a loved one with Alzheimers, well, I hope you never do. It is a cruel, cruel condition. I also want to thank my fellow off-ice colleagues for their support. I also want to place on record my gratitude to Gary. This is the second time this has happened to me and on each occasion it has brought a compassionate and supportive response from Gary that I have very much appreciated. I for one hope to hear you on the mic on Saturday, not for the fact that i dont want to hear GM but for the fact that if you are there, it means that your mother has improved and that your situation is alot more bearable. Im sure we would all rather listen to GM's ramblings than be in Stefs position.

Could someone just let GM know that his microphone isnt just for show and that it amplifies everything he shouts.

My main problem was not with the content of Gary's announcing - sure his stats announcements were not as clear and consistent as Stef's but then whose are? But apart from that, it was largely the same as we normally get in terms of sponsors' name checks etc. My issue is his complete inability to use a microphone, which I find unbelievable for someone who has had a career in radio journalism. I use a microphone a lot in my job and there is no need to raise your voice beyond a normal level. It does take some practice to vary your levels so you can still add emphasis, emotion etc. without raising your voice but Gary should have enough experience now to understand this and be able to do it effectively on the "whipping up the crowd" bits. Shouting down a mic is never good.

And wanted to put in a separate post: Stef, I send my very best wishes to you and your mother. I have some experience of Alzheimers and other forms of dementia in mine and my wife's families, and as others have said it is a tough, tough thing for sufferer and family to deal with. We hope to hear you back on the mic soon, but totally understand where your priorities have to be right now. All the best mate.

Stef - you do the job with great professionalism and you are missed - hope your mum improves
Re GM rather him than me step in to that job - fair play to him for doing it and you have to expect he will do it his way and will be just as keen for Stef to get back as the rest of us
GM is also very very good with the kids - twice now he has gone over the top to look after my son when he has met Panthers players before the game - he makes a big effort in mnay ways - GM is a character but IMO his heart is very much in the right place and I complain about things as much as anybody on here
