my opinion is that the league is Sheffield's to lose. Think Belfast may have one more signing however, might not make the difference, Panthers, third again, hopefully.

As in most things in life you buy quality you get quality. If we paid for a third placed team then that in all likelihood is what you will get. Sport is not always as clear cut as buying steak but on the whole the league is the most expensive squad's to lose and it looks like imho last year that was belfast and this year it is sheffield.
shame but thats the breaks being a panthers fan whose management have always shown it is more about the profit than the success on ice...again imho for those who think i am stating fact...

of course they are.
and FYI - I stopped going at the end of last season as i was so hacked off with the club and our collapse againse Belfast, and haven't renewed my season ticket as i was annoyed at paying for games in advance that meant nothing i.e all league games after the challenge was dead. hence i will only be going to the games i think will be competitive this year.

Will you be asking for your money back? of course not, don't be so stupid and pedantic. the difference this year is i have the choice to go or not, if you buy a season ticket you feel obliged to go to every game as you've paid for it... this season i have the option, if we're at the latter stage of the season, and we have a wednesday night game against a depleted Edinburgh side who have been tonked week in week out, playing a Panthers team that cannot win the league mathmatically anymore i'll save my £40, rather than already having blown it by getting a season ticket, and feeling obliged to go watch Dan green start in net, Josh ward and Norton get tonnes of ice time while our imports sit on the bench "resting" for the more important play off games. and' i'm pretty sure you knew exactly what i meant, whilst typing that ridiculous comment.

A lot depends how well Finnerty manages the dressing room. If he keeps them together then they will have a good run.

Oh come on Lee, its obvious with the quality of our signings each season compared to say Belfast who clearly mean business each season, signing many excellent ex NHL/AHLers. Its clear from stats etc. that Panthers prefer to go for the cheaper option on signings and Moran spouts all his hype to make them seem like great players! Truth is yes, we may get 1 or 2 great players but the rest are average and clearly were bought in cheaper. Really gives me satisfaction paying £300 for a season ticket knowing full well Panthers put profit before success!

Nottingham Panthers experience: 2247 GP NHL experience: 93 GP WC experience: 162 GP SM-Liiga experience: 51 GP KHL experience: 64 GP Czech experience: 81 GP AHL experience: 1045 GP DEL experience: 38 GP NLA experience: 33 GP
Sheffield Steelers experience: 1962 GP NHL experience: 76 GP WC experience: 202 GP SM-Liiga experience: 20 GP Czech experience: 43 GP AHL experience: 1249 GP NLA experience: 1 GP
Belfast Giants experience: 1152 GP NHL experience: 47 GP WC experience: 82 GP Allsvenskan experience: 38 GP SM-Liiga experience: 25 GP Czech experience: 13 GP AHL experience: 879 GP DEL experience: 176 GP NLA experience: 50 GP
Taken from Elite prospects. We have more NHL games than both teams and if we add the fact we have KHl experience then that margin increases furthermore. Second biggest AHL margin, second most DEL experience. So in argubly in the top leagues in the world, we have a very equal team to Belfast and Sheffield

Stupid, pendantic and ridiculous? I didn't realise you knew me so well. Have we met? what did you expect from making a comment like you did? i gave you a reasonable explanation, thanks for ignoring it. anyway moving away from personal digs... i agree ON PAPER panthers don't look as strong as Steelers, Belfast, but i don't think things are as clear cut as they seem, there are other factors which come into games, for example as mentioned, will the dressing room gel? will the players have confidence in the coach? (will they get paid in sheffields case ), are the game plan correct? plus there are unknowns, how do we know these so called "cheap" signings won't turn out to be absolute gems! like francis? also, no-one can count on injuries, surely as Panther fans we know more than most that teams on paper do not garauntee sucess. edit: having seen the post with all the games experience, maybe i am wrong, on paper we have the stronger side. .. anyway, feel free to write us off before the pucks dropped, i'll leave you to it now.

Unless i am mistaken we have a single player who has played NHL? Yeah, and he played 93 times Just shows you can only read so much from statistics, I reckon we'll do pretty well this season.

so most of our stats are all on the shoulders of a single player who is 37 yrs old, and if he gets crocked who are we left with?...

I can t quite understand why Sheffield are seen as clear favourites . Yea they have good depth but their weak link is in the most important position ( goalie) and looking on the lines they look like they ll be relying on the top line of legue , pecker and guertzen . Where as panthers look to have good scoring through all lines and have a core back who know each other well . Steelers have a coach who dues he have what it takes to hold a team together for the entire season , what happened to king , I'm unsure about . Panthers now have the solid d the fans have long craved about . Interesting times ahead ...

Speaking personally I think there is a lot of unnecessary worrying about the roster.
I don't think we have a weakness in any area and I don't think we have signed a bad player. My only slight concern is the lack of toughness throughout the team but that's it.
Sheffield have a very strong squad with a lot of depth, but their netminder can be suspect plus I don't particularly rate Thomas or Jorgenson in their defence, plus question marks over whether or not their coach can handle the locker room. However I expect them to challenge for the title.
Belfast look strong as always and they will probably be favourites for the title once again.
Personally I think it will be very close between the top 3, but it's difficult to give a proper, informed opinion until we've seen all the teams in action, especially against each other.
