There you go. Choice, shorten the season to allow Team GB to prepare properly and plan a few challenge matches before the Championships. Keep things as they are. Increase the season a few weeks

Or start the season a couple of weeks earlier.

Why can't the world championships be moved to later on in the off season? I don't understand the need to have them now? Why not give teams the time to finish their domestic season and have may a month or so to prepare? Most domestic seasons end around this time bar the NHL so everyone would benefit.
Also am I right in saying the top world championship group fixtures cross with the NHL playoffs? It would surely make sense to move it to a later time.

having it close to the end of season means guys nare still match fit I suppose.
For me though, Id much prefer success of club over country, and subsequently, Id rather see a more robust home season format.

Polotics I would say, because the IIHF run world hockey whereas the NHL do their own thing and neither is willing to change.

Personally find the season long enough BUT shorten the league programme.use those games to BOTH make the Cup competition/PO games more worthy AND give rise to a few GB games.

I think the league should have the amount of games reduced and we should concentrate more on the World Championships.
If, internationally, we are competing at a higher level, surely this will improve the standard of players our league can attract. It will give us more exposure as a nation and show just how good some of our Brits are.
The nations above us have shorter season by quite a few games. Denmark and Austria have a 40 game season, Italy a 36 game season and France only 24.
Last year when we had a decent preparation for the Championships we competed well, this year however we staved off relegation. Coincidence? Also, I think Tony Hand is a better Coach than Thommo and if he had more time with the players (a couple of friendlies throughout the season) we would be stronger overall.
I also think it is totally inexcusable that he was not out in Slovenia for the beginning of the tournament. This was farcical to put it mildly!!!!!

nothing to stop the team getting together for a couple of friendly games during the season - could be charity games as a suggestion - have one at each rink - one concern as allways is possible injuries, allways been a problem with football (although they are all wimps that play that) - you could then extend the season to accomodate the extra games, and maybe like football have the occasional week-end break

If we shorten the season the would mean the players would have a shorter working year and then as a result would be paid less. Additionally, there would be less revenue for our Clubs through sponsorship and gate receipts, that in turn would mean that the clubs would have less money to pay for decent players and ultimately the on ice product would suffer.

Trouble is that something has to give or we'll be in this same state. To get change you have to be bold. Get improvement in the GB tournament quality and it may get us to the position of Denmark,Austria,Italy and France. All teams doing better than us.Maybe the way to go.

I'd like to see the League start earlier to allow either international friendlies either during the season (potential fixture congestion) or between the playoffs and world championships (like what happened last year).
