Torres has been suspended indefinitely with a hearing set for this Friday. I think this sums up the arguments about violence in ice hockey. To me nothing better than seeing good clean hits, but this surely goes well beyond it and does the sport no good. www.nhl.com/ice/news.htm?id=628445&cmpid=nhl-rxl-twtCoyotes' Torres suspended indefinitely, disciplinary hearing set for Friday www.nhl.comPhoenix forward Raffi Torres will have in-person hearing with the Department of Player Safety at the League office in New York on Wednesday. It's not great, I'd like to be able to defend him but can't really. Left his feet at the end, hit him in the jaw. Not much you can say. Shanaban'll do his thing and Raffi'll be watching for a while (probably be made an example of, given who he is).
I do find some of the high ground taking from the Hawks fans a bit much, given Sedin still hasn't returned from his meeting with Keith's elbow, but there you go.

I know we're all very one eyed when it comes to our team, but some of them are claiming Keith's hit isn't as bad because he was retaliating for something earlier in the game?!
Anyhow, I reckon Shanny'll send him down 5 games on Friday.

THing is, yes he left his feet and that inexcusable, BUT, its another case of a player skating round without being fully aware of whats going on and whos around him.
Not saying a suspension wouldnt be justified but even had he NOT left his feet, Hossa would still have been hurting from it and Torres would be in trouble.

It's no where near as bad as everyone is making out, at full speed it looks a perfectly good clean hits it's only after a slowmo replay that you see he leaves his feet just before his hit.
You can see why no penalty was called on the play! Chicago players only go after him when they realise hossa is hurt rather than because they thought it was a dirty hit.
Barely deserves a 1 game ban, but can guarantee shanahan will give him an over the top penalty.

8-10 games...he has previous form.
Or knowing Shanhan's Wheel of Justice, it could be a $2500 fine.

You cant only give 1 game because it didnt lo0ok bad at full speed, it was a filthy hit, no need to leave his feet, could have had the same effect, but probably without the injury, without. Out right dirty play, lengthy ban wouldnt surprise me

Well, it's not like he doesn't have prior.
I'm still annoyed that Neal got nothing for almost an entirely identical hit on Couturier. It must be because he's a 40 goal scorer.

He was always likely to get both barrels, but I'm still pretty shocked by 25 games. I wouldn't mind so much if I thought they'd give the same to someone who's not a nothing playing for a backwater team, but they won't.
