Your missing the point Shaggy, Dowd signed in another league there are no comparable brits in the EIHL to replace him, what i am saying is we have signed two players to fill, the hole left by Dowd. No spin at all Dowd leaving was a blow but its softened by those two signings and that he didnt go to any other EIHL team.

I refuse to believe these two were at the top of Doug's shopping list in terms of replacing Dowd. He must have gone after Myers or even Shields but failed for one reason or another...

Like who? the Giants arent going to go after any Panthers brits it wouldnt make sense to get in a bidding war with you that we would loose. Shiedls is a strange one he lives in Belfast, but I think we are going after younger players. It looks like DC has been after Towe for a while if you read the PR.

I always wanted Towe and Dowd to play together for the Steelers, because they complimented each others styles.
Although for the Scimitars they scored a similar number of points, I always thought Dowd would be the one to make it because he just had that rare ability to make space for himself no matter how close opposition players were to him.
Towe is a decent heads up player who will make good passes, but he doesn't have that same ability as Dowd to make his own space, especially at the faster pace of the EIHL.
Depending on the line he plays I can see him doing OK for Belfast and would expect somewhere in the region of 10 goals and 25 assists.
I mention which line he's on having an impact, because I remember Jason Ruff making the dreadful Paul Sample look like a hockey player.

The truth is Dowd is the best Brit around at the moment so loosing him was always going to weaken your team Jester. The glimmer of hope is that Phillips has something to prove next season. He simply wasn't worth his wage (at Coventry) and the whole league knew it.

Jono retweeted this one Danny Myers to Matt Francis
"Just heard the good news of the signing buddy. The KHL is lucky to have you. Good luck in Russia"

No spin at all Dowd leaving was a blow but its softened by those two signings and that he didnt go to any other EIHL team. Except that - unless you get very, very lucky - you haven't filled the hole left by Dowd. That's the point... the Giants arent going to go after any Panthers brits it wouldnt make sense to get in a bidding war with you that we would loose. I really wish you Giants fans would come back to Planet Earth and stop making out that you can't compete financially with us (or anyone else, for that matter). Just about the only people in British ice hockey who believe that the Giants didn't throw large wads of cash at players last season are those actually in Belfast... pretty much everyone else recognises that yes - you ARE a big spender. Quite likely the biggest. In all likelihood, if you got into a bidding war, it would be you that won - not us. Simply because it's been known for a long time that if Neil Black sets a budget limit, he sticks to it. He used to be absolutely hated for that (despite the fact that it was the right thing to do).

Solid signing - might not be the big flash bang show off but he gets the job done. Hits like a steam train considering his height.
