Giroux got Shanabanned! He's out for the next game and hopefully the last of the series and his season.

5pm starts their time, the eastern matches are played at the earlier time and the western played later so that hockey fans across the country have the chance to see both conference games on the same day. My Devils now have 3 chances to see out the flyers. They will have to put in some extraordinary games to beat the Devils this play off series. I get the time difference thing, that's why Western games normally start at 3ish. What strikes me as being odd is the 5pm start (if what you say is true) as midweek games, with te 5 hour time difference, starting at midday when people are at work? Doesn't make sense to me. Same as the 5am starts as stated on the Gamecentrelive app, that would mean the games start at midnight as the app shows local times. Again, it just doesn't make sense to me. 7pm (stateside) starts make sense but I hope they are 5pm local time starts, or even 10pm starts as that would mean I can watch them live.

I imagine the Rangers will offer some kind of attacking, defensive or netminding threat.

I think the Devils could do with afew more days rest after our 7 game first series and then this hard hitting 5 game one.
I hope Washington draws level and takes it to game 7.

Rangers V Devils - Have been watching the preview shows in US (just got back from holiday there)
Week ago they were saying Devils would have far too much for Rangers if they got to play each other but then yesterday leading upto the first match the pundits started liking the Rangers to do this through their gritty determination
Rangers took first match 3-0 - first comfortable win they have had for a while - think most of their wins over the Capitals were by single goal
Lundquist is best netminder I have ever seen - different class - saw him play live once at Madison Square Garden - was stunned how good he was
They highly rate the Devils netminder as well but he is 40 now and got the impression his best may be behind him (I realise I dont know much compared to you NHL experts) but I found the preview shows great over there
Lundqvist could win the Stanley Cup for Rangers IMO - I know their fans worship him already -

The greatest Netminder to have graced the ice IMO. I'm not doing this to belittle you but heres some key facts on him "Brodeur is the NHL's all-time leader in regular season wins (surpassing Patrick Roy in 2009), losses, shutouts, and games played, and holds numerous other league and franchise records. Brodeur has won at least 30 games in every season since 1995–96, with the exception of 2010–11 season and an injury-shortened 2008–09 season in which he played just 31 games, and is the only goalie in NHL history with eight 40-win seasons. He is a four-time Vezina Trophy winner, a five-time Jennings Trophy winner, a ten-time NHL All-Star, a Calder Memorial Trophy winner, and one of only two NHL goaltenders to score a goal in both the regular season and the playoffs."

Martin Brodeur is the trap's greatest benefactor. He has been utterly fantastic but his stats have been bloated over the years by only facing 20 shots a night.

Re Brodeur - the preview show I saw acknowledged how great he was but also said the signs are that age is finally catching up with him
We will see I suppose

Brodeur made a hell of a save in game 1, can't find a link for it but he certainly rolled back the years diving to close an open net. Having said that, I'd probably say Marty is the worst goalie left in the playoffs on current form with Smith playing way above himself, and King Henrik and Quick showing why they're in the hunt for a Vezina.

After a stellar performance in game 3 by Lundqvist, it all went pear shaped as he finally started shipping goals, 3 goals and an EN making it a 4-1 win. Devils draw back to 2-2 in the series and although Ranger have home advantage in the best of 3 to be played, if Devils can keep the fore-check game going. We could nick this.

Having watched Rangers play at MSG couple of years ago I am a closet Rangers fan so I guess WE could nick this as well
I went to a Rangers V Islanders match at MSG
Week before I went I heard Rangers had played Devils and two fans had got into a fight and were rolling down the steps in the arena together still punching each other as they fell
They take their hockey seriously for sure

Richard, what does your post have to do with anything?
You went to MSG? Big woop. You HEARD about people allegedly fighting and on that basis have formed an opinion that is not representative of either set of fans.
Now, last nights game, I watched the condensed highlights this morning and I'm watching the full game and the Devils checking game looks for the first time like the intensity has increased to the playoff level for the first time this season. The forecheck is top during last nights and they have been dominating.
People have been outraged by the "spear" from Kovalchuk on Callahan, admittedly it was outside of the rules but it seemed to be a retaliation to his roughing/activities in front of net. I'm glad Prust was banned for his filthy elbow to Volchenkov's head though I don't think it would have had a massive impact had he played. Devils looked completely un-phased (unlike in game 3 when their heads went down after the goals). I'm glad that they have broken Lundqvist and the goals have started as they were not rewarded in game 3 at least, particularly after working so well. Devils have certainly capitalised on their scoring chances this game.
I think it speaks volumes that in the first 10 minutes, Rangers did not get a single shot off, but then again that was the story of the Flyers series. Clarkson may not be getting a lot of dirty goals in front of the net, but he is certainly doing his job out there in that area.

Whoever goes through to the next round, they'll struggle against the Kings.

End of the line for the Dogs, but still their most successful season ever. Didn't see that coming at the start of the year.

MB may well be entering his twilight years but we watched him single handedly win the Devils a game against Chicago in March - for me that was a) a privilege to be there to watch as it's the first time i've ever seen the guy ice in the flesh and b) evidence that on his day, and when it's needed, he's still one of the very best. He is one hell of an asset to NJ, even at 40+... especially if they need him to stand tall over 7 games on the highest stage of all.

End of the road, but at the start of the season I wouldn't have believed that we would have won the conference or got to the third round of the playoffs. This team is growing, we have 12 players under 25 (Kreider, Hagelin, Stepan, McDonagh, Zuccarello, Stralman, Staal, Del Zotto, Sauer, Bickel, Erixon, Anisimov) and they've gained valuable playoff experience this year. Add another goalscorer (Parise please) and we've got a team that will have a chance for a good 5 years. This is only the beginning. Meanwhile, let's go Kings!

I always liked Stralman while he was with the Leafs & was disappointed when he left; think he had a bad attitude to be honest.

And so it starts tonight.
I think both teams will come out hard and try to gain the upper hand on the fore checking game.
I'm hoping for 2 wins in NJ for the Devils so that we have a nice 2 game cushion going west.
