Earlier in the year when Coventry were in dire straights and needing support to increase attendance it was muted that the league would be split in two next season.
North Fife Braehead Edinburgh Dundee Hull
South Nottingham Belfast Cardiff Sheffield Coventry
Has anything more been said on this? I guess it makes sense to some degree as the this would drive an increase in attendance. The Scottish derby games always generate bigger crowds, as do our games against the likes of Sheffield and Coventry.
I also heard a rumour that the play off series will split into two groups next year with three teams playing home and away and the top two teams going through the play off finals in Nottingham.
Does anyone know?

no they prefer to wait until everyone has bought a season ticket before they announce this kind of detail.

I think it was the Sheffield fans meeting that said there would be a round robin playoff format. Top 4 going to the weekends.
The conference thing came from Moran IIRC. What he wanted to happen.

This ideas/ suggestions were made earlier in the season, so you're right to say you have it heard it somewhere. However, I think that's only as far as it has got. Personally, I would like to see 2 conferences as it would increase the interest/ attendances, which is what some if not all teams need & want. Will it happen, some people do not like drastic change, and it was a GM suggestion and one of his better ones. The playoffs need to revert to at least the old group system. The current 2 leg games we have are undermining the playoffs. Its used as a quick fix to squeeze it in to the fixture list. Why would an extra couple of weeks make any difference. I don't want to take anything away from Hull's achievements and our own for that matter, but if we are to stick with the playoff weekend "bonanza" then shouldn't it be a little more difficult to get there?

Have been meaning to post something about this all week.
Now is the time to criticise the playoff format given that we qualified and Sheffield didn't - can't be any accusations of sour grapes. Seems to be clear to everyone that in order to restore the esteem of the playoffs, they need to be harder to win. It is also right that the intensity of these games serves to improve (and I hate this phrase...) the on ice product.
I've heard it said that the reason behind the current format is due to the availability of ice at some of the venues. I can understand that if dates have to be booked and then vacated if the team doesn't make it or whatever, this could cause significant problems. Surely this can be resolved by having a format that includes all the teams and one that means teams know they need x number of home dates at the start of the year. Shorten the league season if need be.
For example: Split the 10 team league into two groups of 5 at the end of the regular season. Group A made up of 1st, 3rd, 6th, 8th, 10th Group B made up of 2nd, 4th, 5th, 7th, 9th Each play home and away (total 8 games). Top 2 go through.

Otherwise what's the point of the regular season. They also used to split the Autumn Cup groups the same way based in the previous seasons standings, maybe they should start looking at that for the Challenge Cup. IMO the Challenge Cup should also be stand alone with no doubling of games allowed. If a team cannot guarantee to do this then they should not take part. It is a complete joke when one team plays less games to get to the final than another who doesn't get past the group stage.
