My bad about the NHL then, didn't know that myself and I follow the sport haha (definite face palm moment) ... I still just imagine all knockout competitions as a bracket then whoevers in your side of the bracket just continues on until the final, probably not wording that well I understand what you mean! If we were all playing 7 game series to win then the NHL concept would be the one to use. But with our league, it makes little sense for one off games. I understand the Belfast fans are upset but it's not the Panthers fault that these are the rules.

I actually think that the way we sort it is a fairer way,and thats not just because we got Hull.
The teams and coaches always talk about the play offs being a new start,a new season,a fresh start, slate wiped clean etc etc. Yes it is indeed,so why should Belfast start a new season with a so called easy path to the final just because they won the league. The league is done, finished with, the playoffs is supposedly a new start from scratch ?
If all the top 4 seeds had got through then Belfast would have got Cardiff anyway, its not Panthers fault that Sheffield couldn't do the business is it !

Its the same system as Tennis and the same as Basketball (in the NBA) And the closing rounds of European football tournaments these days. I've no issue with the system, but why has Leo had to speak privately to Andy French for us to get it confirmed that that is the system? Couldn't they have posted this, before a puck was dropped, on their website? I don't think it's unusual for hockey fans to have looked to the biggest league in our sport for a template.

Its not Panthers fault, but theres no rhyme or reason for them to benefit from it.
Anger has subsided, theres nothing can be done. Hopefully Hull give you a game

I also agree with Shaggy in that it should have been put somewhere before a puck was dropped as to who plays who.

Just been over on the Kingdom of Giants forum and some of them really are nit happy we have Hull in the Semi Final. Do they fear Cardiff? for some reason one poster thought that the Panthers had chosen to play Hull were did he get that from. Persoanlly cannot wait for all the hate from the other teams fans next weekend.

Hopefully Hull give you a game Of course they'll give us a game - they'll be well fired up! Good thing, too... Why angry? Are you not confident your team can beat Cardiff? (note I say "can" not "will"...) What do you want... a signed invitation to the final?

EIHL should have it published how this works, just makes them look like amateurs, no changes there then. As a Giants fan I was slightly miffed, as being the highest seeded team we didn't have the easiest route to the final, since this is what happens in the NHL. But then I guess sadly the EIHL isn't quite at NHL level, yet But hey ho, I still fancy us to beat the Devils, hopefully Hull give you a game.

The EIHL is so unlike the NHL and every other major hockey league in that the mentality of our competitions is completely different. We are the only league in the world to put the regular season ahead of the playoffs in our list of priorities and opting to follow the football/tennis style cup competition. We are a very unique hockey league in more ways than one so understandable that we don't do things like other leagues at times.

Not sure what the Belfast fans are moaning about. The whole purpose of a preset seeding system (as has always been used in the EIHL) is that it gives the highest seeded team a slightly easier route IF results go according to form. If Steelers were through, Giants would be playing the lowest ranked team still in the competition, not sure how it is Panthers fault that Hull knocked out the 2nd seeded team. But of course, the Giants fans do so love to convince themselves that they and Panthers have some kind of big rivalry...

I don't think we have a rivaly, just don't like the Panthers. But are unable to give a legit reason why so many of your `fans` panther bash at every given opportunity

No theres hate and then theres Obsession, panthers and Steelers dislike each other due to the bad blood , the fantasic games between the sides down the years, close distance and the managements hating each other .
The Belfast fans have been trying to get some sort of rivalry going for years but fail miserably , how i see it is most managements have a mutual respect for each other .
So I take it you hate steelers then ?

It's not like there's a history of obsessive and unnecessary hate in Northern Ireland...
Why should hockey fans be any different.

The Giants fans seem to forget their effective bye to the Challenge Cup Semis through being in a weak group so get over it!! For the record they will beat Cardiff, Panthers should get past Hull and the final has the makings of a great game
NT :-)
