Apparently alot of free tickets for kids tonight aswell. Panthers fans saying there were a good couple of hundred not far from them all screaming. Its a shame cos the 'O' is a fantastic arena. Hopefully we wont blow this lead next week by sitting back.

Fantastic day, game and evening. Well worth the trip to Belfast and well done to the other fans that made the trip.
Brilliant away performance and much better than I could have hoped for.

Just noticed the official attendance figure for this game on the EIHL website... Only 2989!! I know it's a midweek game, but even so... they can't even drag 3000 people in for the home leg of a cup final? What was potentially the possible start to a grand slam? That's terrible for a supposedly-big arena team! As has been said before... it's a good job that they've got ownership with deep pockets, because surely there's no way that they can sustain their level of spending based upon what they'll take on the door... I think its more to do with the challenge cup then anything, the giants attendances have risen again this year and they are almost averaging 4,000 people which is more than respectable

It was said early on that we must avoid penalties as the Giants PP was lethal at over 27% scoring rate. Our PK was fantastic last night, conceding 1 in 8 I think, and with 1.5min on a 5on3. Personally, I would have gone with Danny for MOM on this occasion.
Well done Panthers, half-time 5-1! Lets get the job done.

What a result for you guys! That's a huge result i'm sure Belfast haven't lost at home for a while. I hope Finner is watching the replay of the game now, seeing how you did it. Well done Panthers.

Best team won. Lots of questions to be asked of the Giants players tonight, gutless sums up their proformance. On the crowd issue from when the giants formed mid week games never have/had big attendances, dosent matter what is at stake, as bill has said crowds are up at the O this season and next weekends games against the Steelers may see the east make an appearance. It amazes me that you can put in an effort like that but cant do that over the course of a season

Got to say that was a fantastic performance last night, and Clarkie's strike on the hooter could yet be soooooo important, as we have a tendency to give up soft goals at home.
The Giants crowd was very disappointing, but I suppose it's also a sign of the times, when people have to make a value judgement on where they spend their hard-earned cash? Having said that, on the BBC commentary feed, there was more noise generated for the Subway Freebie Gun than the Giants - WTF?
On the subject of coverage, I opted for BBC Radio Nottingham last night, as I get so frustrated with the inane and ill-informed commentary team on GiantsTV. I have to say that I was really impressed with the BBC coverage - informative; knowledgable, and with the right balance for me. Had to laugh at one comment though - a pass from Sami I think took a deflection off the Linesman's skate, but the commentator said 'stick' instead of 'skate' - to which the other guy immediately responded "You mean the white one?" ;D
Although I am delighted with the 5-1 advantage we now have in the tie, the result and the overall performance also highlights the enigmatic nature of the Panthers that frustrates fans so much! We can go to the home of the League Champions elect and deliver a hockey lesson just 3 days after turning in one of the most abject performances of the season against a Blaze team that's a shadow of previous years .... and the probability is that tonight in Dundee, and on Saturday in Hull, we will perform at a much lower level and struggle to beat teams we should be wiping the ice with!
Anyway, fantastic win guys - just make this your benchmark for the rest of the season!

The thing is, we only have 5 games left where we need to put in a major preformance - the 2nd leg, the 2 playoff 1/4 finals, the semi and the final providing we get there. Whilst building momentum towards the playoffs is important, losing games like sunday night is going to cost us that much in the long run. If we play like we did last night in the playoffs, we can win them. The problem I have is that we are a team built towards winning the playoffs and not winning the league. But I'd take 2 trophies again this year TBH

Brilliant performance that from start to finish. Next time a ref calls a pen when there is only TWO seconds left in the game and everybody says "why the hell bother calling that now". Well now ya know, cos if he hadn't called it,there wouldn't have been a face off and Panthers wouldn't have scored goal number five straight from it ! Nice one Mr Darnell. Too true. If its a penalty then it shouldnt matter how long is left, it should be called, and was. I really hate it when a penalty isnt called just because there are a few seconds left or it in overtime. A penalty should be calle no matter what it shows on the clock.

Tis fortunate DC scored on that powerplay, or I would be asking the ultimate 'daft question' - "Would the penalty have been carried over to the second leg?"

First off, well done, that was a fantastic win for you guys. Totally agree with Shaggy with the point above. We have quite rightly been criticised in the past for not being able to support our playing budget. I see many similarities here with Belfast. Poor crowds, relying on owners deep pockets and splashing the cash. Let's just hope for the leagues sake it doesn't bite them on the bum in the coming years.

Do you one nights poor crowd makes a season does it?, the average attendance for the last 9 Giants home games is 4607, couldnt do sheffields as they dont submitt all attendance numbers!!! worry about your own house before chirping at others

I fully expect panthers to approach the 2nd leg with a sit back on the lead and try and defend it at all costs strategy, which will lead to the giants pulling it back and being a tight game by the end
have to expect to be lifting the trophy at the end though based on the 1st leg.

just to highlight how big an achievement last night was... it was the first time all season that anyone has scored more than 4 goals on Belfast.
