On last night`s show when he was being interviewed by Simmsy, he was asked what the secret was to Panthers cup successes.
His reply was something along the lines of "we`re a big game team, what we have to figure out if we want to win the league is how to win on a Tuesday night in Newcastle, but that`s for me and Strachs to figure out."
Staying?

Look, obviously you dont get it, i`ll make it easier for you..............
Corey was saying that we have to figure out how to win games against the so called smaller teams on nights when motivation has been an issue. Now do you get it?
The point i was trying to make though was that i think he inferred he`s here next year

So I take it he didn't say Newcastle ? and I think we were all saying the same thing regarding ( Staying >>> ? )

He did say Newcastle. He was using them as an excuse.
But apart from the nothing loss to Dundee...I can't recall us dropping any points to the bottom 4 this season??

But apart from the nothing loss to Dundee...I can't recall us dropping any points to the bottom 4 this season?? Exactly right However if we are a 'big game' team how come we have lost 4 'big' games against Coventry and 4 massive games against Belfast (more a question to Corey than your good self)

But it also, he means rather than focusing on bigger games, we must take full concentration into every single game, as well as the ones against the top 2. I think it's easy to understand, i've always said we're a cup team and the ONLY problem we have in the league is dropping points against teams that Belfast and Steelers can comfortably beat. We sort that out, we have a much better chance.
And as for Corey's future, I personally hope he stays.

As well as this we won the series against Sheffield and Cardiff and are 3-2 up against Braehead. So your argument dont hold water, we need to beat the teams above and around us more. i.e the big games Corey says we do well in.

In fairness, last season Panthers came to Newcastle (aka Whitley Bay) and lost two games they really should have won if they'd been going for the league. In fact, they probably should've won anyways...
But they didn't. And those games kill league chances, but can be recovered on a cup run (see last year with Newcastle, basically blew them out of the water in the second leg)

Had we beat Coventry in more games than we did, who this season i'm classing as a team we should have beaten comfortably, we would be in 2nd place, no doubt. Then only Belfast, who all season results have been 1-goal games. We are close, but it's the teams like Coventry and Braehead who have forced us to drop vital points. They've beaten us more comfortably than Belfast have done.

Looks like people have missed the obvious news scoop from this interview. Vipers back in the EIHL next year! ;0)

Teams like Coventry and Braehead helped decide the title. Steelers had it better than both of our teams- (12/12 against Coventry, and currently 7/10 against Braehead)- Giants were 9/12 from Coventry and 8/12 against Braehead.
However thankfully you boys hate the Steelers and they have a 4/12 record against your fine selves, and we have an 8/10 record against Nottingham- thats probably where the league was won.

Probably best to insult a disbanded team than a team in the elite league.

I think Coventry were lucky when they played us in two of the league games. One was the 7-6 lost with Dan Green in the nets. There is no way Kwall would of let 7 in. The other was when our league challenge was over and we had the emotional game against Fife the night before and one eye on a cup final. The Dundee game was also a nothing game that if it meant anything we would of won, Green in nets again.
Of the other regulation losses eight were by one goal. Although the dropped points add up we are not far away from finally getting the league title.
It was a damn sight better than last season where we pants for a good 6 weeks.
How many posts have there been to gas certain players this year. Not many, so I guess most people have been happy with the players that we have.
Not many games I haven't enjoyed this year, even when we have lost they have at least been in the game playing right to the end. Although having young kids means I don't get to away games anymore. From friends that do, the impression I get is that the team plays good hockey most of the time and are in contention to get a win.
The only change I would make is to drop an import forward and get in a top end D-man. Corey has signed plenty of top forwards (exNHL ECT) but not D-men. I'm not having a go at this years D-men either. Keep what we have but add a bit more quality to them. This would also allow Corey to play less minutes. Which I feel would benefit him as well.
Then also have spare imports as well. This should stop the Newcastle syndrone. Don't play well on a Tuesday against a lower team then sit out the bigger game at the weekend.
We would then need to sign one more good Brit to replace the import forward. Try to get someone like Peacock from Giants. Probabily unlikely to be honest. However Farmer from Coventry would be a good fit. Ok he can't fight but he knows where the net is, he's a big lad who gets in where it hurts and has lots of bottle.
Sorry for this post turning into a seminar. Hope it provokes some more thoughts/opinions.

I think Farmer's re-signed in Coventry fan-land but agree he would be a good signing...just don't let him fight unless he's taking on one of the opposition's top imports...

From what I recall of him saying in an interview, Corey came very close to resigning after losing badly twice in Newcastle last season. So "We need to win the Tuesday evening games in Newcastle" is probably the example that sticks most firmly in his mind, rather than as a calculated dig against anyone.

yeti "I think Coventry were lucky when they played us in two of the league games. One was the 7-6 lost with Dan Green in the nets. There is no way Kwall would of let 7 in" I think we have to stop plaming Green for this one - he might well have been at fault for some of this, but there were too many mistakes in the defence - and that has followed us all season. To ignore that is to overlook what has been a recurring weakness.

Dan Green did not have a good game that night... but he was also badly let down by the defence. It's just a pity that a) we lost, and b) all of the attention has been on Green... because whilst our backup let in 7, Coventry's #1 netminder let in 6. The latter looks worse...

Very much agree with that Shaggy. Although I think the fact still remains no one will be confident no matter what the game if Green is in nets which is unfortunate.
