Last year steelers won with a rookie coach (although admittedly inheriting a very expensive team), if panthers dont pull their fingers out they will do it again this season at a canter... I see you have discounted the Giants now as a threat for the league title. Any particular reason why?

I suppose it was daft to think that we could go the whole season without someone jumping ship, let's hope this doesn't open the floodgates! It'll be interesting to see how the new fella does.

Well, it seems I managed to break this news early in my rumours thread by all of 18 minutes looking at the time stamps! Still, at least it's nice to be vindicated after having been derided as 'pure speculation'.
This Sami bloke seems reasonable, though it concerns me he plays for so many different teams every season; he seems to be a jobber who just fills in for injuries. Hopefully he does more than that for us.
And anyone else get the impression McAslan is being set up for a coaching role? He can't be fully fit, and as an 11th import, he'll be bench warming most of the time.

Perhaps I misinterpreted that comment as the reason why the topic was locked (i.e. locked because this topic is 'pure speculation, like Galbraith coming back').
If that's not the case, I withdraw my comment!

So why can Belfast, Sheffield, Cardiff etc all sign them?? The only reason AHL players will come is for university and that is the only reason someone like Matt Stephenson is here, of course you get the odd exception of people like Weller and Fleury but those are just because of rare individual circumstances. Barring Stephenson who was a depth player at the AHL level name me the genuine AHL players who are playing for Belfast, Sheffield and Cardiff? Not strictly true as Fife don't currently offer Uni deals and we have Matt Cohen who has 60 games in the AHL.

Thought Scott was a decent player. Surprised we've lost him to a 2nd tier German team to be honest although seemingly it was his choice - would like to know why though.

At a fairly small club even by German 2nd tier standards? When I first saw the news I thought fair enough and wondered which DEL side he was going to, when I saw he was going to a 2nd tier side, and one that has had recent insolvency problems as well, I was surprised.

I think it seems to revolve around Panthers wanting him to play with a full face mask, and him refusing. It seems rather petty if that is the case, although having never played ice hockey, I wouldnt know if there is much difference.

I think that would be more to do with us wanting him to play trough his injury and he would rather wait we will see if he plays for his new team in the upcoming game.

Guess we will have to wait and see when he ices for his new side and what equipment he wears.

If thats the case then good riddence, plenty of players have to play through the pain barrier. Im sure we wouldnt pressure him into playing if it wasnt safe for him to do so.

If he don't want to play, get rid. but we should be carrying a spare already anyway and looking to replace a spare, not our top points man.

Why was the thread on the rumours section locked? I didn't lock it personally, but when a rumour becomes fact, if there's a thread on it there it gets locked, just to keep discussion in one place. Anyway, would love to see Mac back, and good luck to Sami, looks like he might need it.

massive loss for the panthers, just huge and the time is just so bad. As jordan fox said these series of games coming up are title deciders. You cant really replace a player with that quality at this stage of a season but cover him with a solid two way player and this finnish guy might be the man only time will tell.

Seems like quite a bit of wishful thinking there to me. Really haven't got a clue about the new bloke but hopefully he'll do ok. Same for McAslan.

Now you mention it, i'd be very surprised if that thought hadn't crossed GM and NB's minds on approaching him. Ps. To whoever it was said something about playing through pain...can someone remind me what actually happened to Champagne? If it was something minor like a few missing teeth, a cage or full guard seems reasonable and he would be a bit of a brat to say no. Anything that could potentially be damaged/made worse even with a cage/full visor and I can maybe see why the guy doesn't want to risk it. Hockey is not long term enough to put your lifelong health at risk - it sounds to me like he was being cautious if that was the case.

He was messing about in warm up,had hold of Lachos stick larking about,Lacho pulled it away and it went up into Champagnes eye.
If we were gonna lose a player,im glad it was him, couldnt see what people raved about.
Yes he was top point scorer, but i genuinely can't remember him doing anything extra special in any game apart from scoring a hat trick of easy tap ins against one of the scottish teams early in the season.
