New season begins tonight, but only a handful of games mind; so what does everyone hope for or expect from their team?
I hope for the play offs, but I don't think it's realistic despite the recent additions to the Toronto. Too many question marks in my opinion for the Leafs to have a decent season; 9th in the Eastern conference.

I just hope they don't screw October up like they have done the last few years, and then have to play catch up for the remainder of the year. Still if it all goes wrong, maybe they get a shot at drafting Yakupov.

I have very low expectations performance wise, no Bryz who, despite his playoffs, has been exceptional for us in the reg. season.
I'd just like the ownership thing sorted one way or the other (the Sharks guy, Reinsdorf, move them, anything now) then Maloney can really start to put something together, rather than the bargain bucket stuff he has to deal with now.
Oh yeah, and Turris could get a new agent and stop being a plum.

I'm just hoping for a post-season run from the Wild. We've lost something on the defensive side, with Brent Burns departing, but appear to have upgraded in our weakest area - offence. OK, Dany Heatley is something of an enigma - he may turn it on, he may fizzle - but with Setoguchi as well... things may be looking up.
However, I believe that there is a lot of young upcoming talent moving up through the Minnesota system, so looking ahead the future seems a bit brighter, even if this season turns out to be a bust. And a new coach - Mike Yeo apparently took the Houston Aeros from zeroes to heroes, so if he can bring some of that magic to the Wild... the State Of Hockey could be rocking! ;D

I like Heatley despite him not being a fan favourite, always killed Toronto while he was with Ottawa. As for Turris, he's been linked with the Leafs, but not sure I'd want someone who apparently wants a $4m pay cheque as his numbers weren't good last year.
Looking forward to seeing what Jake Gardiner does for us too, the deal that sent Beauchemin to ANH could be a steal by Burke as Gardiner's looked really good so far.

I think my Avs can sneak into the playoffs, but I think injuries could once again have their way. Varlamov and Giguere is a huge upgrade on Budaj and Elliot and the D has got a lot bigger, whilst also being very mobile. Mueller is back to 100% now and if he can re-create the magic with Duchene and Hejduk we could do well. Stastny has to have a rebound year and should have Jones on his line from the start. O'Reilly and McClement give us great depth down the middle, and hopefully we should have a lot more depth on the wings this year.

Stars beat the Blackhawks. Wounded Jari conceded with 13 seconds on the final period to lose the shut out. PK looks good. And Jamie Benn puts someone through the plexi!

Casually beating Boston in Beantown, we're now 6-0-1 there since 1998.
Varlamov has saved 66 of the 68 shots he's faced so far, he's been as good as advertised.
The defence in general has been fantastic as well, we have the biggest D corps in the league, if you haven't seen it already, check out Ryan O'Byrne's hit on Chara today (it's on NHL.com) it was a case of felling the giant.
Now if only the top 2 lines can do anything...

Great hit by Phaneuf, perfectly legal despite what that moron Chris Neil thought.

Great hit by Phaneuf, perfectly legal despite what that moron Chris Neil thought. Well, the Sens coach said it was a clean hit, the Sens player that got hit said it was a clean hit! (on the game highlights video, you didn't need to be much of a lipreader to see him say "It was my fault" on the bench straight afterwards)... a good hit, one that we need to see more of. The only thing about that hit that I don't want to see more of is the now-inevitable scrum of players charging in to cause a ruckus just because one of theirs got taken out with a clean hit. Man up, guys - taking hits is part of hockey.

Da Costa said the following "“I got crushed,”admitted Da Costa.“Last year the guys had warned me about Phaneuf and of course the one shift I didn't pay attention to him I paid for it.”
Fair play.

Man up, guys - taking hits is part of hockey. To me that seems like a fairly understandable reaction, regardless of how clean the hit is. One of theirs just got cleaned up and they react in a moment. Anyway, just after that thread was started about how pulling the netminder never works, the Dogs prove it does (in the NHL at least) by conceding one with 20 seconds to go against the Stars, then lose the shootout. Brilliant.

Wow the Caps v Bolts game last night was all over the place, Vokoun letting in howlers from behind the goal line . He said "he'll pay the team back" for winning it though, some outstanding play in May and June would be nice...
Also watched the Stars v Yotes game, was there anyone in that building? Looked dead.

It was a 4pm face off on a monday - I think any team would struggle drawing a crowd! No idea who made that decision especially with our financial struggles!

The Texas Rangers were playing Detroit in the ALCS and Texas is baseball mad, so it wasn't really surprising to see a poor crowd. That game was a thriller, the Rangers walked off winners with a grand slam in the 11th inning.

Crosby cleared for contact in practice, but no time table for his return.
