HUCK OUT FOR TWO WEEKS, MEYERS BACK NEXT WEEK (we hope)! The expected two week lay off for Jeff Heerema after he broke his nose in a freak collision on Sunday night in Dundee has been confirmed by doctors. Jeff went straight in for full checks after the team got back from Scotland and the anticipated lay-off was quickly ratified. Meanwhile Danny Meyers believes he's ready to rejoin the action. He's been undergoing re-hab after a summer shoulder operation. Everything seems fine but the surgeon won't see the extent of the recovery until next week. After that everyone is hoping for the green light to return to action www.panthers.co.uk/modules/News/SEFS/ID.2193/SEFE/ViewNewsItem.asp

Why aren't we carrying a spare import again?
Said at the start of the season we should be carrying a spare forward, Dman and Brit.

its only 4 games he's going to miss,, 3 of which are at home (so we have an advantage) and one is a cup game which if we lost would not be the end of the world. so i'm not to worried in all honesty..
The best thing about our team this year is we are not reliant on single players... we will be fine, two weeks without Heerema is the best of a bad scenario given the way he was injured last weekend. no need to panic. especially if there is potential for Danny to be back soon.

If Danny does return quickly Levers can drop back to the forwards line. As Pantherdman, I would have liked to see us carrying spare import.

Good news for Danny to be back, Caps and the Clan should be less physical games for him to re-introduce himself.
Heerema will be missed, but am sure plenty of others can pick up the slack

I'm still far from convinced that a spare import is the way to go.
Look at it this way - if we have a spare import who is up to the standard of the others, either this 11th import sits out most games (what player would really want to do that?) or there'd be a rotation system... which messes up the lines. And what did Corey (with some justification IMHO) get criticised for last season? Never letting the lines settle.
Or we get a cheaper & less-skilled import who sits out most games... but then isn't really going to be in much shape (mentally, if not physically) to come in and play to full potential.
Not saying that it couldn't work... just that it seems to have too many drawbacks.
And after all - how many times have we seen a short-handed team (both Panthers and opposition) play all that much harder in order to compensate for the lack of numbers? Lots of times...
Fingers crossed Danny IS back with us soon... and that Jeff returns as quickly as possible.

I'm with Shaggy in this one. We've kept the same lines all season so far and it's worked a treat. Spare imports mess this up and cause unrest in the dressing room. I mean we had Penner and McDonald as spare imports last season - if thats the quality we'd go for, I'd rather be short benched.
If it had been a longer lay off, I'm sure we would have got someone in - we have done in the past.

I could be worse, the fixtures over the next two weeks don't involve the Giants or the Steelers, I'm sure we'll be permitted to borrow Ward and/or Norton for a while if it comes to that. They both seem to be able to fit in with the current team well enough, especially Norton I've been impressed with him so far, which definitely frees Levers up for some forward duty. We should get concerned if it goes over the estimated 2 weeks!
Anyway, best wishes for a speedy recovery to Jeff!

Not saying that it couldn't work... just that it seems to have too many drawbacks. We have the same debate each season - only reason we havent yet is it took us a month to get our first import injured (which is longer than normal IMO) If you look at last season and where we are this season - there is nearly always an injury and/or suspension - so we never get settled lines in reality If we had a spare import I would go the rotation route knowing that most weeks at least one import will have an injury and would benefit from not playing We rarely had settled lines at all last season due to injuries and suspension and I predict the same this year In fact I bet if you look at most teams in our League they are nearly always without settled lines through injury or suspension Therefore we can get an edge with a spare rotational import (I am sure we would all be very happy to see a fresh import replacing Heerema rather than us playing one short for four matches) Lets get one in !

You can't use a spare import for suspentions

I'm with Shaggy in this one. We've kept the same lines all season so far and it's worked a treat. . We have only played a handful of matches though Injuries seem far more common than a lot of people think IMO I think very rarely are teams playing with all their imports and even when they do many are having to play injured anyway I think having a fully fit quota of imports is unlikely for more than 50% of a season Would be interested to know any stats on this for us and other teams Fact is by not having a spare import we will be pushing for Heerema to get back playing quicker than we would need to - and that happens a lot with players from what I can see

You can't use a spare import for suspentions Sorry - I did know that honestly My comment was also in relation to the fact settled lines just dont seem achievable at all - last season we never got close and cant see it changing this season much As such I prefer the spare import which at least means when we do have to rotate it is with an import coming in rather than a Brit

Could it be that Heerema might only miss this weekend, as it says he will have a two week layoff, not two weekend layoff. This being the first week, and next Monday to Friday being the second week. Here's hoping.

NOTTINGHAM Panthers will be without Canadian Jeff Heerema for the next four games at least. It says at least... so it could be considerably longer

I'm sure Molin turned up for a game against Coventry the other year unannounced and scored. Thommo was spitting feathers.

That would be all kinds of funny, didn't Thommo convince himself it was James Neil in Molin's skates until the line ups were announced?

Molin's return was indeed the fairytale story. Shows up to visit friends, asked to play for us, borrows his old white skates from his sponsors, scores the winning goal... Shame he had less impact in the subsequent games, but that game against Coventry is still one of my favourite ice hockey moments. Is Billy Ryan doing anything at the moment?

As much as I liked Molin I don't think he would have such an impact as he would have had in previous seasons. If Heerema is to be out for that long I think it would be great if Panthers managed to find cover, if its not impossible. As gcmandrake has said, what is Billy doing atm ?

Just reading the NEP article I think levers will just be moving into his spot anyway so probably cover won't be needed. But this could also change as to how long Meyers may be out for, which could be this weekend anyway.
