I think it's about 7 months and counting until the next liquidation.

I realise he is a D-man, but not one point in 46 games last year? Talk about stay at home.

Yep so much for reduced budget... cant see any signs of spending less ie what they have in the pot so i guess another close season of yet another steelers club going bust.
Dont want to sound mean but lets hope if they do thats it and we dont have to suffer those attention seeking glory hunters again....

There is a delightful little ditty that goes along perfectly with this signing... the funeral march.
I'm fed up of being wound up by them in the winter and feeling sorry for them in the summer. The last signing will have to be diabolical for them to stand any chance of staying financially afloat, but i get the feeling he wont be.

Just find it hard to believe he didn't luck in to at least one point.

I said earlier im not sure this would go through as why announce it when the uni package not agreed and i dont think its signed and check westerdales twitter this is what he wrote “@westerdale10: Hi Craig, any idea who published that story? Im not suprised by this signing. In all honesty i would expect their last remaining D import to be of a similar high caliber as this one simply because i dont think they've spent a fortune on their forwards.
They can have the tightest defense in the league, but they still lack goals for me.

didn't D'amour come straight out the AHL, look how that turned out? Not really. He started the season 08/09 with Dayton Bombers of the ECHL and played the vast majority of that season at that level.

however he did have 3 - 4 seasons in the AHL.
i really don't think you can automatically assume great players from that league, some come here for a slow down, and holiday.... and you get great players from the minor leagues, and they tend to be a bit hungrier.
ala..
Leppine, Nick Toneys, Mike Rees
don't get me wrong AHL is not to be sniffed at, but i'm not going to say this guy will win the league for steelers...

DD did have 2 full AHL seasons a while before joining us. D men that have come to the EIHL straight from a "pure" AHL season include Jon Gleed, Craig Weller, Scott Ricci and Steve Munn. Matt Stephenson is 27 and has had 3 pro seasons so I doubt he is looking for a holiday or a wind down. He will be a very good performer in this league.

2nd time this season there has been an issue with steelers announcing player signings that arent done and dusted...
As is typical i guess they will still come up smelling of roses...

I'm not convinced that this guy should be seen as a 'proper' AHL D-man. OK, stats rarely tell the whole story, but take a look at his stats on hockeydb: www.hockeydb.com/ihdb/stats/pdisplay.php?pid=84978128 regular season AHL games with just 7 assists and never getting a positive +/-. A tad better in the play-offs, but nothing to crow about... Looks fine at ECHL level (or did 3 years ago, anyway) and that's nothing to be sneezed at... but 'true' AHL level? Not convinced at all... Definitely a 'wait and see' signing, this one. Could turn out to be a defensive stalwart, could be little more than a bollard... or any point in-between the two.

Where do you get the idea that we've not reduced our budget? Squires has effectively replaced Dowd. Huttel has effectively replaced Domish. Esders is effectively replacing Campbell. Nobody has replaced Squires as our 11th forward. Now from where I'm looking that is a significant cut in our budget. The new guy is effectively replacing Munn, which I'd consider to be like for like and we're still waiting to see who replaces Boli. For what it's worth I don't see us challenging the top two because we don't have the budget to afford the depth of forwards that Belfast and yourselves have. Regards Doom

his stats are very similar to those of stephen wood who they signed towards the end of the 09/10 season... and he wasn't great lets be honest, more of a traffic bollard than a man mountain! www.eliteprospects.com/player.php?player=17098

I think he would be expensive, but I doubt he'd be on more than the ex NHL player coach Ben Simon. It's also worth mentioning that our other ex NHL forward Rob Globke has also been released. I'd also say Mike Ramsay is probably like for like with Joey Talbot. To my mind the budget has been reduced quite substantially, which it had to be, but we look like we're spending enough to at least be able to compete at the top end. With our lack of depth compared to the likes of Nottingham and Belfast we'll have to stay healthy and hope that Tom Squires makes a step up this season if we want to be title contenders, although I can't see it. Netminder = Looks Good Defence = Looking reasonably solid Forwards = Not enough scoring depth. Regards Doom

Regards Doom agreed, the point i was making was that not all players turn out to be as good as their history makes them out to be. in fact nobody knows what he will turn out like until october/november time next season, although unlikely, maybe Huttel will outshine this guy next season as nobody seems to particulalrly rate him highly, purely based on stats alone of course....

Doom,
just a few quick points...
According to your own fans Domish was a cheap signing last year and therefore i see huttel as a like for like replacement.
Dowd was on a 2nd year contract and as such was demanding a wage he probably in all honesty wasnt earning last season (his breakout season if i am correct?).. which i see as being in a similar position to Squires who is likely to have a breakout season next year.. maybe a small reduction in wages but imho nothing more than that... Thought campbell was an import and esders a brit? in which case not a comparison is it? therefore i suspect an 11th forward there dont you? Add to all that... you have the very expensive Tait plus your other brit pack who all want pay rises after winning the league last year. Plus imports such as clark (ex nhl), colt king (a very sought after player) and of course the goal scorer legue (another very cheap player obviously.... not)...
Cant see where alot of money has been saved myself and we are then told you are signing bolibrook (oh another expensive d man) and this ex AHL player... yep i can see exactly how you think the team is cheap...
