Funny that i thought the National Ice center was built on the premise of sport for all not dancing round like a muppet for all The fact is the place will never make money the sooner they realise this and make it public then we might see some more olympic champions and such like. Build another place for concerts and such things.

what like a concert hall? far to easy for them to think of that. Plus SPORT should come BEFORE Concerts in the NIC.

Build another place for concerts and such things. Nice idea in theory...... and where's the NIC going to get the money from without concerts etc? Us hockey fans? - don't know if you've noticed, but we are a MINORITY sport in this country - and overall fan numbers have been steadily dropping for years. That means falling revenues. I for one would love the NIC to be solely devoted to ice sports (especially ice hockey) - but there just isn't the money there for it. Unless you can guarantee to bring along enough friends to ensure a sell-out for every single game? (and probably not even that would do it). Or - here's a bright idea (not!) - make us fans pay the difference! £30 tickets, here we come.... A little bit of realism wouldn't go amiss here, methinks.....

Just to add to the confusion regarding the Edinburgh fixture on the 30th, this date has NOT yet been confirmed as having been moved as far as Edinburgh are concerned. Am totally confused and hacked off now - I am gonna be in London on Halloween (where the cats were gonna be!) so will now miss the Sheff game. Worse than this - my second team aren't coming to see me off on my holls on 30th? Pants! They'd better not reschedule Caps visit for while I'm away or there will be hell to pay. And much stomping of feet. EC - can you let us know if you hear of this fixture change being confirmed??? Gutted.

Plus SPORT should come BEFORE Concerts in the NIC. So you would be happy to pay £30 a ticket to watch a hockey game then Tim? That's what you're saying if you want a stand alone ice facility.

what like a concert hall? far to easy for them to think of that. Plus SPORT should come BEFORE Concerts in the NIC. why? Why do we get the divine right to have the NIC whenever we like? It isnt the Panther's arena, it is an arena that the Panthers rent for when they can get it. Lets look at the maths: 6,000 Panthers tickets sold at roughly £13 = £78,000 10,000 Gaterasher tickets sold at roughly £35 = £350,000 I know you're not a businessman Timothy, but if you were running an ice arena that was haemoragghing £1m a year not so long ago, which one would you choose? after reading 4 pages of this thread, its come to my attention that we have plenty of very selfish fans in our ranks. Panthers do not pay a bond or anything like that to guarantee our booking for the night, we make a provisional date and if nothing more profitable is arranged for that night, the game is played. You have to look at it from the arena's point of view. A Nottingham vs Sheffield match will come close to selling out on whichever night you care to put it on. Gatecrasher wont. Gatecrasher will only come close to selling out if it's on a Friday or Saturday night. The arena has a choice of keeping the Panthers game on the Saturday and appeasing the odd selfish fan or they can put Gatecrasher on on the Saturday and Panthers on on the Sunday, making much more money in the proces. Which would you choose? Some people need to start living in the real world.

It looks like we are now looking at a midweek fixtures in November sometime. I'll keep you posted.

Mmmmmmm
This is just theory but when the money was being raised for the building it was built on the premise of SPORT that is the real world isnt it.

If it had been reliant on sport alone it would never have been built. There just isn't that sort of money in ice sports. In effect the concerts subsidise the the ice sports.

A number of people have already mentioned a bond that the Panthers could pay to guarantee ice time. Whilst I understand that this could be costly to do for EVERY home game surely securing all the Steelers ones should be seen as a priority as both teams claim that couldn't survive without these games?

Thanks BJ and Geoff. I guess we will just have to wait until the powers that be agree to the proposed changes. It always starts to make sense when some of the facts come to light and the guesswork is taken away. ;D

This should cheer anyone up who's got problems with the alleged revised fixtures.....
On Saturday 30th October, it's my dad's 80th birthday. My mum has decided to have a party at home (in Blackburn). Upon seeing the Panthers fixture list, I persuaded my mum that it would be better to have the party on the Sunday (31st October). I didn't mention that Panthers were at home to Edinburgh Capitals on the Saturday, but used the argument that Blackburn Rovers were at home to Liverpool and my dad, as a season ticket holder, would want to go to the footy. Also, Sunday would be a better day for people to go to the party anyway. I realise that this argument is a bit 'tenuous', but my mum agreed.
It gets worse !!! As part of Mrs. BlackburnHawk's 40th birthday celebrations, I rather lavishly have bought a 'Box' at the Arena for the Edinburgh game (as my wife comes from Edinburgh). This is for 14 people @ £25 a throw. I did this on Tuesday this week !
So, I'm completely and utterly gutted !!!
If these fixtures are confirmed, I'll no doubt get my money back for the 'Box' I've bought for the Saturday evening, but given that I can't possibly approach my mum with a view to re-arranging my dad's party, which my wife and I cunningly argued should be on the Sunday (anyway, the invites have been sent out now !), we're gonna have to miss the Steelers game !!!
ABSOLUTELY DEJECTED (as well as gutted !).
Having said all that, I fully support the Arena's actions in holding a concert on that Sat. in November. They do have to make their money when they can and if it means beggering up a Panthers fixture once in a while then so be it.
I can't believe I'm being so laid back about it.....I'm off to give the news to Mrs. BlackburnHawk......there'll be tears !

Commiserations BH - that really is quite a blow!
I'm just hoping they don't rearrange any of the games during the Christmas holidays whilst I'm away in the Highlands - already missing the Boxing Day game, any more would be a blow.
Still, as you say, we just have to make the best of the hand we get dealt.
I didn't get to say "hello" down at Bracknell Sunday last - couldn't have bought you a pint it seems - they were going to peculiar lengths to keep us from "downstairs" out of the bar during the game!
Will look out for you at future games.
Steve.

Thanks for the commiserations, MP !
Mrs. BlackburnHawk is indeed truly gutted and doesn't quite share my view of the NIC in terms of they have to re-arrange things sometimes and these things happen ! She didn't cry but she swore a lot !
As a by the way, I also thought that 'downstairs' folk at Bracknell not being allowed to the bar was a bit off. I'm sure they could have got some arrangement going whereby we could have got a beer.....they'd probably have sold quite a few to us Panthers fans, especially as the game progressed !
