So Nottingham City Council are to honour the Panthers with a civic reception at the start of next season. Whilst i applaud the recognition, do they not realise the nature of hockey and the realistic possibility that a lot of players who won the trophies may not be back to get the accolade? Unless they all will be and they know something we dont!! Does this mean the entire squad has re-signed?

How sad that Nottingham City Council finally take an intrest in Hockey it is so misplaced.
Oh well at least a few of this seasons players will be there to see it.
At least its a start I guess, lets hope they can get more involved at play off time also.

I thought they did the same thing last time we won the playoffs. With the nature of players contracts and the world championships, there would never be enough time to hastily arrange something.

Well, now the playoffs are in NCC's back yard for at least the next 5 years maybe they'll get involved a bit more. banners of the final 4 dotted about town? Stuff like that. On my way back from the playoffs I was quizzed on whether there was "some hockey thing going on as there were lots of people with jerseys."

I think the Council do help out hugely already with the costs of the Play-Off Finals weekend and therefore have the Nottingham City Council on the ice behind the goals as they see it as a big boost to the local economy.

I know that the City Council do get some things wrong and come in for a lot of criticism from many quarters (Government and media), but just remember that without their persistence and commitment over 10 years ago, Panthers would still be playing out of the old barn, not the NIC! They also underwrite any operating losses at the NIC, helping ensure we can all enjoy our hockey, and many other things, there.
Additionally, a far as I know, the City Council have also provided Civic receptions to the Panthers on every occasion they have brought silverware back to the city.

Don't get me started on the City Council.
How the hell would the NIC make a loss?
I thought it was built with lottery money?
Anyways, the council and league could do a load more to promote Ice sports / hockey. As has been said, loads of people coming up asking why all the shirts? whats going on?
Wasn't the mayor of Nottingham at the play offs?

How the hell would the NIC make a loss? I thought it was built with lottery money? The NIC was only partly funded by the Lottery Sports Fund, but one of the conditions of receiving the grant was that the NIC is limited to the number of 'non-ice' events it can stage each year in the Arena, thus limiting its capacity to fill the diary with more lucrative concert gigs, which in turn resulted in operating losses, particularly in the early years. These were underwritten by the City Council to make sure the NIC stayed solvent and viable. Had to smile though when the hastily arranged Twenty20 tournament got them out of a blank date when McFly went into temporary meltdown and cancelled.

A year or 2 back now there were adverts all over the city on the councils lamppost adboards, bus stops etc. I'm assuming that the NIC didn't get anymore uptake as a result.
