I don't know what anyone else thinks, but for me these games have lost the spark they used to have, I don't know if its due to too many unbalanced and one sided games over the last couple of years on both teams parts, or whether the current players just dont feel it anymore. I'd say we've got a bigger rivalry with the likes of the Devils these days, seems to be much more animosity in those games.

Agreed. Less than 4,000 at the tin shed last night, although the "greatest rivalry in Europe" will have been affected by SKY, no doubt.

Not forgetting the Coventry fans. Very true - Tuesday is one of the only remaining league games I'm actually looking forward to!

In the 4 seasons I've been watching, I've not found the rivalry with Steelers all that important. They're just another team to beat. I much prefer the Coventry rivalry. The Devils rivalry is good and is fun, but I get a massive amount of satisfaction from destroying Coventry.

I've said it for years... the rivalry with Cardiff is the strongest... it's the most resilient, for a start! The rivalry with the Steelers is stale... it's been over-done.
I suppose it also depends on what you define as "rivalry". Many would no doubt define it (somewhat childishly IMHO) as the team you hate the most. Hate the Steelers? - I for one can't be bothered to do that... I may despise their style, their bombastic 'biggest, loudest, best' attitude, not to mention their hypocritical "we're sinking again, oh pity us for we suffer so much... oh, we've been saved again, aren't we the greatest?" approach. But hate? Can't be bothered. Can't even be bothered to hate the Steelers-wannabes Coventry Blaze, who in some ways are even more crass than the Steelers.
But a rival you can respect? Who can get your teeth grinding during a game, but afterwards can (if even a little grudgingly) prompt you to applaud them honestly... whom you really really want to beat, but don't feel disgusted if they beat you because you know they are tough... whose fans with whom you can have proper banter and respect, not "oh bloody hell, not them again"... To me, that's a real rivalry. Which, for me, is the Cardiff Devils.

I thought the rivalry had gone stale over the past few years but then I felt the rivalry had been re-ignited after the october game with all the controversy over Carson. Although I love games against the devils and Blaze, sheffield games are still by far IMO the biggest

Although I love games against the devils and Blaze, sheffield games are still by far IMO the biggest With a 3987 attendance last night, are you really sure? Yes, it was changed to a Friday night (although that's better than any other midweek night)... yes, it was on Sky... but a sub-4000 attendance is pathetic even so. Our fanbase is becoming disillusioned, their fanbase has been disillusioned for some time now (and despite all the claims to the contrary, it's going to take a lot of time, effort and luck to change that)... that rivalry may not be dead, but does it have a 'Do Not Resuscitate' clause in its will? They'd better hope not...

Just hoping for a Panthers Devils CC final match up, though with our current form can't really rate our chances this year at beating them if it does happen!

I've got to say that the last panthers vs Devils game at the NIC when we lost 6-5 was one of the best games I have seen for years

The Steelers rivalry for me at least, has been stale for quite some time. These days I feel more animosity towards, and get WAY more pumped for games against Coventry Blaze.

I think you can still call steelers our biggest and only rivals because we hate to lose to each other more than any other team
yeah Coventry and Cardiff games maybe are the better games to watch at the minute but I don't care as much losing to them as I do losing to steelers, I bet the same can be said about most other people on here and in the arena too judging by comments coming after losing to them.
Just because a game is good to watch does not make it a rivalry, Coventry and Cardiff are probably trying their hardest to set one up though as they know it will boost their income with huge amounts of traverling support

A loss to the Steelers does hurt more. The reason being I think is that they, more than anyone, love to rub our noses in it.

It's still the game I want us to win more than any other and I can't see my feelings changing on that.

Steelers games totally disinterest me now. There used to be a time i'd love a good steelers game, get really excited for it the day of the game etc. Last night i forgot to turn on the coverage til after the puck drop. I used to really hate losing to them and it would put me in a mood temporarily. Now i'm just in a mood because the team we have are useless and its a nothing game for me now. Lacking the nastyness and intensity of past years.
For me I get far more excited for Giants and Devils games. Always close scoring, hard fought games which can go either way. Panthers v Steelers is overhyped and always leaves me feeling shortchanged even when we beat them now.

I think the low numbers last night probably come down as much to moving the game to Friday, putting it on TV and Panthers being in the state we're currently in, rather than people losing interest in the match up.

From a Steelers perspective, the team I want us to beat more than anyone is you guys.
However I think the rivalry is not as intense at the moment simply because it is not the 2 of us battling for the title. If you were in Cardiff's position I'm sure the rivalry would feel very intense at the moment.

Surely the biggest rivalry is between the Panther fans and Gary Moran?

It's close now between Sheffield and Coventry but it's still Sheffield for me.

From my Steelers perspective beating you guys gives me the greatest satisfaction. Although it is true to say I much prefer it when one team isn't so much better than the other, like last night.
I do have quite a deep dislike of the whole Coventry setup, from the man in charge to the Coventry fans in the stands. There is just something about them that leaves a sour taste in my mouth!! Think they took Manchester's place in that respect.
I have a respect for your clubs history and have a quite a few good friends from Nottingham. The same cannot be said for Coventry, they're more like the next door neighbour with an asbo!!

Surely the biggest rivalry is between the Panther fans and Gary Moran? +1 at the moment Historically it's Sheffield and it seems to be an instinct thing cause I've not been following Panthers long enough to truly understand why I hate them so much but I know that I do. Is there an underlying reason for it other than just because it's Sheffield?

Dont forget first game at home to steelers this season sold tickets faster than ever
Full house
And that night we realised we were just as crap as always !
The appetite for beating them will come back once we put a decent team together etc
