With the panthers home leg of the challenge cup being on the same day as the notts county cup game and its on tv, why not pop into bunkers hill before the ice hockey and watch the footie with a pint. What a sunday afternoon that could be!

I know I'm hijacking your thread but does anyone else think it's a bit bad that our leg of the semi final is being doubled up as a league match? Completely undermines the whole legitimacy of the competition in my opinion. I know the Panthers struggle for ice time so it isn't really their fault, but I think it's about time the EIHL looked at the format of the competition as ice time is clearly a concern (not just for us). Why not have a semi finals Sunday at Coventry for example and then have a one-off final somewhere else? This was done in 2003 and worked quite well.

I suppose you could look at this both ways, if we are definately through to the final at this point (and please don't think I'm undermining the Vipers at all because they could spring a nasty surprise) then we still have the league points to play for and the guys won't turn up half hearted. Or we could be playing to determine the final and still have to give our all for the league points aswell.

It's not a satisfactory situation for sure... but I can't help thinking that it's more to do with the shambolic way that the league si 'organised' rather than anything specifically the fault of the Panthers. Most likely, the league has given the teams a limited amount of time within which to play both legs, and the Panthers just can't get ice time.
Of course, there's another side to it... the Vipers will only have to fork out for one away trip instead of two. Another little helping hand for their finances.

I think though that if you had the Vipers game as a one off challenge cup game off the season ticket not many would turn up as the Vipers with half a team arent much of an exciting prospect semi final or no semi final.

Have to say i agree and on top of that the fact it doubles up means that as a season ticket holder i dont have to pay for another ticket. probably wouldn't have bothered. haven't bothered with the play offs this year either. thoroughly peed off with them this season . Will be back next year though of course

Ice time and the fact that will save Vipers some money not having to travel down for an extra game

i think this makes sense but i am surprised that they have made the date prior to first leg being played. if we win with 3 or 4 clear goals (no disrespect vipers fans) on wednesday who will pay for a dedicated second leg. its makes economic sense for both clubs and sets of fans.

What a sunday afternoon that could be! Any sunday promotions running? Do you serve food, or do I need to eat my sunday lunch before making my way to the pub?

There's only 4 days between the two games... you can't play the first leg on the Wednesday, then the next day say "second leg is this Sunday". How unprofessional-sounding would that be?
