Menzies are a newspaper shop (among other things). People go to buy the newspapers and often then buy the 'other things', which Menzies do make money on. It's called 'a loss leader' in the industry. It is very small minded (Panthers wise) not to treat PP as a loss leader, imagine a stand selling PP that also has lots of little merchandising items (car stickers, kids bits, bobble heads, collector cards, the list is endless) Panthers is a (possible) cash cow which is gonna implode on itself if someone does not buck up and quickly inject some new ideas, more importantly put them into action.

I dont know but could this be seen as a competitor to the match night programme and obviously get more money from that? Stinks either way... That's my understanding of it. How sad.

Hey Guys Steve Clarke here at Powerplay... Just over a year ago we were stopped from selling the magazine on the concourse at Panthers games by your GM. The official reason was that we were taking away revenue from the club. The club did get a commission on sales and had to do absolutely no work in selling them. We did take the matter up with Neil Black, who although sympathetic, didn't seem to want push the issue with Gary Moran. Mr Black doesn't have any problems with us selling the magazine in Braehead. It's only been on sale at the NIC shop since and but to be honest we lost a lot of sales, by not selling on the concourse. Presumably they sell them, as they keep paying us. If you want to get a copy then please get down to the shop (whether there's a game or not) and next week our main interview is with Guy Lepine. As mentioned, you can subscribe and should go to www.powerplaymagazine.com indeed we have a special offer on at the moment and if you subscribe for a year in January you will get 5 extra issues for FREE. If you'd like a FREE Trial Copy, just send me an email with your postal address to steve@powerplaymagazine.com Cheers Steve Clarke Editor

Hi Steve and thank you for your response. Did you know that Powerplay is not available from the NIC shop match days (or nights)?

Surprise, surprise, Gary Moran is involved. Powerplay isn't perfect but it's much better than Moran's ego trip, The Eye.
Won't buy the official programme since Moran used it to slate all fans who didn't subscribe to his viewpoint several seasons ago.

It's the same old crap from Moron, if it doesn't fit with him, he doesn't want it....no matter what the fans think! Obviously that wee wee-poor propaganda publication The Eye is his baby and he doesn't want another (better) publication casting a shadow on his. And tbh, as a matchnight magazine it really is substandard....but at least the sponsors and advertisers see their vaued contribution to the club. I buy it every week and mostly don't know why.
I have had my subscription for Powerplay for about 4 years, and some weeks it is a great read and others I find it less interesting. It has improved over the last 2 seasons with better interviews and articles, to be fair, it needed to.....the internet and club websites meant that it was always behind with any 'news', so the way forward was to make it topheavy with features. Well done to Steve Clarke and his team for the mag and to Steve himself for explaining the situation on this forum, thanks muchly!

Its all very well for non-Panthers people in ice hockey to have a giggle by ridculing the Panthers, but it affects your circulation, then who is having the last laugh Powerplay Magazine or the Panthers...? HL +1 Only brought it once, never again for that reason. If this is the reason, yes it is petty, but it takes 2 to tango. Can't really blame the Panthers.
