This is at the NIC shop?
They have them under the counter (oooer vicar) but they are not allowed to sell them match nights now.
Strange?

Possibly because they are not a sponsor of the panthers??
If that is the reason, I think that is fair enough, its the Panthers event, so if someone wants to make money of panthers they should have to pay a fee to them

No, can’t believe it’s that as there are other magazines on sale at the NIC shop.

Odd though....an iced based shop not selling anything hockey orientated just because Pantehrs don't gain.Or is this right as we rent the whole Arena (with shop open) and can call the tune? A bit like no Trading Cards this season (thus far) , fans having supported the venture in previous years can't continue their collections on the basis of club profit only. Collectors could have paid in advance maybe for a break even printed lot.

A whole queue of kids there trying to by it last week and all of them left disappointed.
Great way to treat the paying public of the future I would have thought.

There was some sort of dispute between the club and PP and they stopped selling them on the concourse, but last time I was in the shop they had them on the counter.
Around what we do and don't rent on match night, I have no idea, but I was in the shop a couple of months back when a chap asked one of the girls for an item in a different size and the response was 'We might have some downstairs but we can't go down to the stock room now as Gary wont let us'. No idea if that meant GM or someone else with the same name.

No, they are under the counter but you are told that they are not allowed to sell them now. I see. Was a while ago I must admit. If that's the case then it's absolutely ludicrous. But then if I buy a copy it's usually from Altrincham so not really bothered myself. Is bad though, and as you say the kids need a wider hockey education than just Panthers spin, PP can play it's part in that. Just another example of the depth to which the Panthers problems and arrogance runs. I fear for the future because one day it'll all go bang unless changes are made.

I dont know but could this be seen as a competitor to the match night programme and obviously get more money from that?
Stinks either way...

Sort of makes you wonder if Panthers management have any clue at all on using the media in any way at all apart from banal 1980s spin to be honest.

Do Powerplay offer a subscription service? I appreciate that times are hard and not everyone can shell out up front but would there be any incentives such as a discounted rate or anything? Either way it is bad form from the Panthers if they are being petty about it.

As far as I know there was a disagreement a few years ago and ever since you can't buy PP at Panthers games. I'm surprised you can't get one from the shop though as I'd of thought it would be independent from the Panthers.

There is a subscription to PowerPlay. Can't remember whether you had to pay up front or quarterly. Worth looking in to. By-pass them all.
Just checked through Google, subscription available
10 issues(taster pack) = £25.00 free delivery 1st class
35 issues = £80.00 free delivery 1 st class
Half yearly subscrition =£50.00
Hope this helps

Not missed it TBH
I'd rather people brought The eye, i'm guessing so do the club.
Nothing wrong with the club flexing it's muscle, it should do it more!

A whole queue of kids there trying to by it last week and all of them left disappointed So they managed to buy it then? I'm often left with that feeling of disappointment after reading PP mag too. It's like nearly everything hockey-related in this backwater, poorly done and full of personal grudges. To add to what panthersdman said though, the Panthers organisation has to pay a not insignificant amount of money to use the NIC (same as any other promoter, no 'mates rates' here) so why shouldn't they wish to control sales by an independent company that could potentially damage Panthers bottom line? It's not like Powerplay are known for their positive press with regards the Panthers or infact many of the other 'arena teams'. Their editorial team seems to be made up of ENL and EPL fans who deem the EIHL the great Satan and seemingly only cover the league through financial necessity, seeing as the two men and a dog who follow non-EIHL hockey can't support the mag on their own. Perhaps Panthers asked for a cut of profits, quite reasonable really, or wished to charge a fee for allowing an independent business to trade on a site Panthers have to fork out a lot of money for, again, not an unreasonable thing to do. Perhaps though it is PP Mag who are being the unreasonable ones and said no.

TBH the eye is full of GM and its bad enough listening to him as well as reading his speil.
The attitude is probably reason why Panthers are hated so much throughout the hockey world in the country. It wouldnt kill to allow them to sell powerplay! At the end of the day you either want a matchday programme or you dont!! By been childish and not selling powerplay isnt going to encourage me to buy the programme!!

I think the dispute between Panthers and Powerplay was about what was being written in Simms' column.

Perhaps Panthers asked for a cut of profits, quite reasonable really I wonder if Menzies ask the Daily Mail for a cut of the profits? We have discussed this before ad infinitum, too many agendas and egos in UK hockey for it ever to be taken seriously

You'd think being in a minority sport, we'd have alot more cohesiveness in order to better the sport between all branches - that includes fans, owners, GMs, magazines etc yet all that happens is they bicker, undermime and insult each other.

Been like that for ages, imagine if a photographer was told at a venue that he couldn't take pictures of the players because he might make a few (quite literally) quid on them even though he was working for the opposition. Been there, seen that and printed the T Shirt too

Been there, seen that and printed the T Shirt too I think the phrase "cut your nose off to spite your face" sums it up. Its stupid banning picture taking under those circumstances. Unfortunatly, as you quite rightly say, its been like that for years and won't change. It's very sad that it won't.

Perhaps Panthers asked for a cut of profits, quite reasonable really I wonder if Menzies ask the Daily Mail for a cut of the profits? We have discussed this before ad infinitum, too many agendas and egos in UK hockey for it ever to be taken seriously Menzies are a newspaper shop (among other things). People go to buy the newspapers and often then buy the 'other things', which Menzies do make money on. It's called 'a loss leader' in the industry. Panthers on the otherhand have to spend a lot of money hiring the venue. The draw is not Powerplay Mag so why should they allow its sale by a completely independent business with no kick back to them? I agree with your second point though. It took a lot to convince me to start watching UK hockey and consider it anything more than a joke but the more I experience it the more I'm convinced my initial feelings were right. All praise the NHL, my first love.
