Isnt it about time the stupid idea of the sponsors picking the man of the match is abolished? If they want to pick a player to have a photo with for their corporate image then fine, let em have it. I know its not always easy to give it out but last night was chuffin ridiculous,i dont know whether the players are vain enough to actually want an award as such, but i think K-wall wouldnt have minded just a little recognition. He might start wondering what he actually has to do to get some credit for his performances. As to who does pick it, i`ll leave that open to the floor, but there must be someone a little more qualified in the building

kowalski should definately have got it last night.
surely in this day and age it wouldn't be beyond getting a text system where fans in the building could vote? i know it'll never happen and would be a long shot, but last night was a joke!

Match sponsors pay a lot of money to sponsor a match and part of the deal is that they get to pick MOM. Sometimes they ask for a bit of help but in most cases they choose themselves.
Some years ago at the end of a game in the old place, we had a regular sponsor ready to present the award to their MOM, but whose choice was, how can I put it, over-ruled. They didn't sponsor another game.
There is a theme that comes up on here from time to time about people having a right to their opinion. This extends to MOM awards too, as it does to our right to disagree, although I don't think it's helpful to describe the sponsors as idiots, as has happened elsewhere on this forum.

Simple solution, stop expecting the award to go to the player who has had the most impressive game. Works for me, I don't get wound up about it anymore, just amused. We normally pick 2 MOMs in our group, the one we think actually deserves it and the one we think will get it.
At the end of the day, we need the sponsors and that is part of the deal so we have to accept it. Maybe they could more obviously call it "Sponsors' Man of the Match" just to avoid people getting so het up about it.
Maybe they could consider having a "fans' MOM" as well, if they can get a text vote up and running somehow, with the supporters' club sponsoring that instead of/in addition to the team bench?

How about stopping giving the sponsors the option of picking it? Just let them present it. They'll still get the plugs and won't look stupid?
Text vote, don't give F'in ideas, LOL! I think text voting is costly to set up so would be a none starter.
we could hold up red tomatoes or green peppers instead?

Just do 3 stars based on stats as they do in the NHL.

Simples - let the respective opposition Coaches select the MOM, and as pantherdman says, just let the game sponsors present it! Bring some credibility back to an award that should actually mean something, and not just be the subject of incredulous post-match discussions in the bar.

I suggested a few seasons ago that we run a poll on here after home game. The only drawback is that fans from other teams will come and vote for players who didnt play particularly well.
You could just pick from three players, but who would decide on the best three?

One thing I've noticed is that when we get beat at home, 9 times out of 10 the opponents netty gets MOM.

Last night's choice was way off the mark, our defence was poor all night and they pick a defenceman, whilst a blind man could see that Kowalski did the most to keep the Panthers in the game. As a poster on this forum and as a paying fan the onus is not on me to be helpful. My opinion is the choice of man of the match was idiotic..... If the cap fits wear it.

As been said K-Wall should have had the last couple at the NIC On Saturday, I'd have given it to either Matt Myers or K-Wall... with Myers just edging it, I think. But wouldn't have complained about either.

K wall was outstanding on saturday, and against Hull and Newcastle. These people pay for the privilage so it's their choice but it is now getting worse than the X factor and more embarrasing than the issue with the sweets. Which the kid who sits in front of me still does. ARRRRGGGHHHHHHHHHHHH. Do they watch a different game to us. Maybe on of the GM's dvd's perhaps whilst we watch what is happening on the ice.

Have to say I've had a puzzled look on my face for a fair few MOM's but Saturday was just not even funny. K-Wall should have won hands down for me. Did anybody else notice how peed off he was (understandably) at the end when he hurled his water bottle at the plexi behind his goal?
