BIG upgrade on that ruddy euro, he looks like a re will be playing a bergin type role (one i think we have been missing), someone who will do the nitty gitty against the boards whilst the rest of the team gets set up in the zone.
Lets hope he can get here in time for shuff!!
Also....bad news about Zion.

Thank god Lisack has gone. A complete stop gap and I think that was something that was decided before he signed IMO. If this guy is a Berginesque player then its deffo a good signing for us. If he is known for his checking rather than his scoring then that isnt always a bad thing. Weve got plenty of points on other lines and a "consolidation" line with him and probably Levers when fit would be a good thing.

Looks a good acquisition, nothing fancy, just a tough hockey player who will hit, grind and do the dirty work. Just what is needed.
If we are to win on Saturday, however, with Zion looking like a major doubt, Neilson needs to be disciplined and not try to play the hero, especially if he is going to be needed to double shift.

It's a pity Liscak didn't work out... but those who have complained before about the Panthers dragging their heels when it comes to changes should be happy with this - 4 games and he's gone!
As for Bellamy... well, stats aren't everything. If the NEP article and the piece on the Panthers' website are right, he could be a good choice to disrupt the opposition plays... hard checking, good fore-checking. Hopefully he can play defensively as well, although a good forecheck could help take the pressure off the defence anyway by breaking up plays before they even cross the centreline. A bit of team defence? Here's hoping. And "he hits like a tank", apparently... oh yes, that's just what I want to see! With Matt Myers and Stevie Lee hitting anything that moves, and sometimes Penner delivering big hits, adding someone like this should make it even better on the checking front. Good stuff...
Possibly losing Zion is a worry... whatever his defensive shortcomings, his offensive contribution is certainly valuable. And if the Steelers are down Campbell and we're down Zion... looks to me like that they have the better of the deal.

If Zion does have a chance of playing it does us no harm to keep that secret til the very last minute and give the team and fans a boost on the night
And surely we would not release Liscak until Bellamy is definitely available to play ?

Here is a comment I found about Rob Bellamy on a hockey forum - it definitely looks like we have signed another strong character:
"What is your best UMaine hockey memory?"
"Probably when Rob Bellamy came out of the penalty box pXssed (what's new) and hit a guy from UMass (i think) so hard his helmet flew off."
Its US so I am assuming they mean pXssed off rather than drunk !!
But either way - he should be ok lol - hope he is there Saturday for sure

ok, let me get this right,
we have 1 guy out injured definate, we have another that is a major doubt.... so we release a player! surely that doesn't make sense... why not keep Liscak until the new guy arrives?
No idea what this guy will be like but his pedigree is good. look forward to seeing him.

One thing I did notice was that his pims were fairly low for a big hitting guy - so on that note he'll probably get a 100 pims this season with our refs who will judge his hits less favourably I'm sure!

Rob Bellamy has a link with Lepine from the Elmira Jackals by the looks of it - Lepine must have been involved in recommending this signing I guess
Here are a couple of quotes from when he signed for them:
"Rob is a great character player," Cameron said. "He's an excellent skater, a hard hitter, and will provide good leadership."
"It's a good opportunity for me as it's in a centralized location," Bellamy said. " playing my role, playing my hardest every game, being physical, doing the little things right, and being consistent."

I hope he doesnt suffer the curse of Steve Simoes. Fall foul of the refs for good checks, and then not being able to play his natural game.
Another young guy as well.

Looking at it closer Bellamy never actually joined Elmira Jackals so maybe Lepine doesnt know him at all - he was due to sign for them only last week when we must have stepped in

stats aren't the be all and end all, so not really worried too much about those. this seems to be a proactive change though. Liscak hasn't really worked out and looks to me as if he was only ever meant to be temporary anyway. Maybe we had our eye on Bellamy a while and got in Liscak as a stop gap until we could get him here?? another wait and see signing, but hey, aren't nearly them all!

Maybe we had our eye on Bellamy a while and got in Liscak as a stop gap until we could get him here?? From Corys comment in the article you get the impression that when he signed Liscak he wasnt meant to be temporary: Neilson said: "Liscak has a good resumé but for some reason he never clicked. "He didn't dominate like he should have done with his pedigree. With another team, Robert may be a good fit but sometimes Europeans find it difficult to adjust to playing in the UK. I don't know why." Fair play to Panthers for making the change quickly though I say that assuming Zion and Bellamy both play Saturday - if not they have probably acted a week too quickly !!

So Liscak released after just a few games? Told.You.So! Now, wheres all the people who were taking digs at the people who judged him (entirely correctly) when he signed? When will people learn.
Love the signing of Bellamy, although slightly disappointed we didnt use the opportunity to bring in another import D and sure up our back line.

Yep, step in the right direction. need to sort the D now, and the PP and the face offs, then we will be good to go Saturday.

Let's just hope people realise it looks like he's not here to score points.

Let's just hope people realise it looks like he's not here to score points. True, but its nice to sign a player Iv actually heard of. A guy who played 60+ games in the AHL just last season is going to know how to play the game. Weve got point scorers, Bellamy could be the real spark plug weve needed the last couple of games to get these superstars going.

I was one of those that doubted Liscak when he joined but the fact that he had now gone gives me no satisfaction as I wish he had been successful for the teams sake.
However I am happier with this signing as I think any successful team needs an in your face type player to compliment the skilful players. Hopefully it's just a smoke screen from the club and he will be icing this weekend.

Here is a future talent review done on Bellamy in 2008:
Rob Bellamy Prospect Grade: 6.0 C (About Prospect Grades) Profile Contributed By: HF Staff
History 2007-08: This was Bellamy’s senior year with the Maine Black Bears where he was named co-captain of the team. Following the conclusion of his collegiate career, he made his professional debut with the Philadelphia Phantoms (AHL) on Apr. 2 vs. Norfolk.
Talent Analysis Bellamy is a hard-nosed player who brings intensity to every shift. He has good speed and can deliver momentum-changing body checks that fire up the crowd. The senior forward plays with discipline and tends to find himself in the right position to generate scoring opportunities. Strong on his feet, Bellamy is very good at doing all the little things such as winning one-on-one battles in the corner and blocking shots.
Future Bellamy fits the mold of the Flyers organization with his rugged play and toughness. Although a fierce competitor, he still needs to work on honing his stickhandling skills and improving the velocity and accuracy of his shot.
The 6 rating that they give to him means the following:
6 - Third line forward -- generally speaking, players whose game is defensively-oriented, or whose abilities aren't quite good enough to land full-time duty on the 2nd line. Think Kris Draper, Stephanne Yelle, Igor Ulanov, Brad Lukowich, Jussi Markkanen, Manny Legace.

I feel sorry for Liscak, irrespective of how he played I get the impression whatever was said by the club, he was never going to be more than a fill in.
That said, Panthers have acted quickly, and I just hope Bellamy has defensive instincts.
