game thread / Thoughts. Tough start to the season.
I'd like to think that we will be able to give Coventry a good game here, They will have played 5 times by this time, so are way ahead of us in pre season warm up and game experience, which may give them the edge, but our guys will have been on the ice together for 2 weeks and have Belfast under their belt by then.
will be interesting to see how they plan on handling Penner, who i think if the others have mentioned the rivalry will be a real handful for Blaze in this game.
Hope we can get an early win over the Blaze!

I wish us the best of luck, These early games could be vital, Blaze seem better prepared. I hope Penner runs wild!

I would not want Penner to run wild but just back our own team up and get the message across of 'I will get you if your push it'. Reminds me a little bit of Ryan Shymr but abit calmer.

Reminds me a little bit of Ryan Shmyr but abit calmer. really? penner calmer than shmyr? shmyr was pretty calm when playing except for the fighting imo it only took one look at penner whilst he was on the ice and the look on his face at the end to realise this guy isnt calm when he's out there not even in the slightest

I dont want Penner to fight unless it is necessary as I think we often lose for silly penalties (I thought it was corey for the last two seasons) and I think that this might happen with penner that we are constantly having to defend meaningless penalties rather than attack.
I am not a fan or fighting either - I bring my seven year old and he loves the atmosphere and the hockey - but fights send out the wrong message - i realise I am probably in the majority.
Anyways - as for the game I would expect it to be close and if penner fights/gets penalties needlessly game ban next game enforced by corey (ok I can dream)

Cov will likely be quicker out of the blocks than us due to the aforementioned game time, plus we've got a really tough game the night before. If we can weather the early storm and play to our strengths we can win.
I'm going for a three point weekend overall.

How many here will be going though? I want to go but people i know of are not, so i will be a one man band sort of thing. I dislike Coventry more than Sheffield because i find the people there up themselfs more than anywhere. Is the good TCW running for this game?

tempted to make my first skydome visit for this one. i do love the rivalry we have with the Blaze, more so than the steelers rivalry.

Is it block 7 for Panthers fans after 8 is full? I believe so.. Just a quick question, is it reccomended to book in advance or just turn up on the night? I haven't been to the skydome for a couple of seasons and unsure whether to book in advance. Cheers, Tomo

I bet the kid loves the fights!!!!!!!!

fights dont send a bad message, poor parenting and a lack of contextualisation does.

As long as Penner wins, there's nothing wrong with beating up a bad guy!
No wonder kids are growing up as pu$$ies who have to carry knives.

Two tough games for a starting w'end. 4 points would be very good, I want 4, would settle for 3 but realisticaly i'd expect 2 from a tough start like this. As for Penner, i though he looked like he had a screw loose when he was prowling around.... loved his checking and his general demeanour against Tillburg, i was nervous about what he was going to do so god knows what the opposition think. So glad to see us screening the keeper as well and this will be a game winning plan if we keep it up (we only ever seem to do it sporadically in previous campaigns). Totally agree that pointless penalties will be the down fall if Penner loses the plot, IMO he has to show he means business but act as a deterrant, occasionally sending him out on patrol, then if any one steps out of line open the asylum doors and let him go for it!!

I really would like to think that penner is a proven professional ice hockey player and as such i really would expect him to be able to work out what is and isn't acceptable within the realms of this league and that he is not a one man wrecking ball out there hurt people at will. yes make big checks but not at the cost of getting silly pens time after time and i really do hope that corey can draw on the last couple of seasons experience and limit them if it does start to happen. I just hope people give the guys time to figure things out here. we as fans know how suspect some of the calls can be and no doubt some will come as a shock and frustration to import players new to the league. but all in all im really glad to have someone like penner to protect the team corey has worked to put together , something i think has really been missing last season. oh and batter the snot out of anyone who does step out of line :-)
