Holy **** - did NOT see that one coming! In an odd way, though, this could potentially be the best thing to happen to the club (although it makes it look as if the three quittees are totally blameless for the club's troubles... which I doubt!). They need a shake-up over there in the mindset as well as the ownership (trouble is... if Phillips sells up and the 3 return - how much of a change in attitude will stick?). Now I suppose it depends upon what Phillips does... he could still decide to stay on - stick two fingers up to them and hire replacements. That could really put the cat amongst the pigeons. Well, so much for all those who were trying to make out that this whole situation was nothing to worry about... and those who were saying that Bob Westerdale was wrong to keep highlighting the problems (I bet he's feeling vindicated right now - or was he in contact with one or more of the three before this? Conspiracy theorists, this is your chance! ;D). At least there's nearly 2 months to get this sorted before the season starts... hopefully a spring-cleaned Steelers club will still open its doors in September.

That is a business/power move orchestrated by Simms
Sometimes these things work - sometimes they go terribly wrong
Depends how stubborn certain people are

Oh my god This does not sound good for the steelers at all, it seem the problems must be worse than we all thought, i for one only thought you would get Simms and O'connor out of the steeler in a wooden box. Can the Steelers continue to ice a team next year? how will the players that signed up for matsos react to this. Can we now temp Steve Munn to be our last Dman?

The Steelers have needed an overhaul of their match night presentation and marketing of the club for a long time, and they need to do something about the trap hockey that the club has insisted on playing for a long time.
With these people out of the way, it does give Phillips the opportunity to bring in a new team, who may be able to get things on a more even track.
Having said that, I doubt very much that we will not see these people back within a Sheffield club. Very soon.
I think I am right in saying that none of the players are able to move to clubs within the UK without Steelers permision.

LOL - isn't it a bit premature to be picking over the carcass and choosing what players to pinch? All the players will have signed with the club rather than the coach, so Phillips still has them on the roster... one or two may choose to go elsewhere if Matsos doesn't return (gawd knows why - you'd have thought that would be a preferred outcome for them!) but would they want the negative rep that would go with such a decision?
Sod 'em... Munn etc are Steelers... there are plenty more players out there.

Also i would assume that the contracts are not in effect as yet as they wont be paid till the season is underway so the steelers wouldnt realy be able to stop them.

What a mess. I would not be surprised if more revelations aren't forthcoming. The only certainty out of this mess is the poor publicity that UK hockey will receive. and the knock on effect on sponsorship.
There are no winners in a situation like this, only losers

If Bob decides to sell, I wonder if NB would be interested. By running the two main teams in the league, he can fully take control. Also, didn't Simmsy recently say that he had been interested in taking over Steelers before BP? Maybe he has seen this as an opportunity to get them for a knock down price. I hear that estate agency has been in the doldrums for quite a while Either way, this leaves BP with a big problem. His hand is being forced in my view.

It would appear that the much vaunted 'Family' has just become totally disfunctional!
The move by Simms / O'Connor / Matsos is obviously geared to forcing Phillips' hand and getting him to sell the Steelers. Not only has he lost the services of these 3, but also the Office Manager and the Promotions & Marketing guy.
I doubt whether they would have taken this action unless they were already in discussion with potential new owners, so I would fully expect to see them all back when (or if) Phillips decides to sell up and walk away.
If Phillips doesn't walk, then Simmsy probably has the least to lose, as he still has his job with Sky; his Estate Agency work, and if that dries up, I'm sure his mates down the road in Coventry will give him a job a little closer to his home?
I hope it gets resolved quickly, as love 'em or hate 'em, the British hockey scene does actually need the Steelers to be a viable outfit.

I doubt it very much, it's just not his type of business opportunity IMO. Too much to sort out both functionally and financially. I'd challenge the suggestion he'd then be running the two biggest teams in the league. As businesses there are currently at least 3 other EIHL teams (4 if you include Nottingham) that are healthier and more attractive propositions than Steelers

Its working fine for me It's not down, it's been taken offline and now just shows as a registered domain name. If anyone can still see it that will be down to the site being in the cache from a previous site visit. A refresh of the page and/or clearing of the cash should give you an up to date view.

In a related note, the EPL Sheffield Scimitars have also been going through financial & ownership troubles lately (directors quitting, big debts, doubts over playing next season etc) and now it appears that they're losing players... Pavel Gomeniuk, who had already signed for the Scimitars, has apparently now signed with the Manchester Phoenix.
Two clubs in Sheffield in trouble, two ownerships in doubt... hockey up there is taking a bit of a battering.

Steelers are one of the best known sides in the UK. They have (had) a very good fan base, which, if the right management is in place, could re-attract large crowds again. Coventry have a good fan base, but are limited by their rink size. Belfast have good facilities, but have been allegedly been making a loss for some years. I would say that Steelers have the potential to be profit making like the Panthers, which must interest NB.

The family looking for foster parents presently.Anyone on the Cage here take them on in the present position, indeed an y club.Phew.
It would be wrong for any owner to have fingers in any more than ONE club, never mind three.
Maybe a consortium of the 3 guys have plans not yet unveiled?

'Ding dong the witch is dead!' We are all now free to roam the land of tin!
Respect to them all for standing by their principles, perhaps they have an investor and will club together and bid for the club?
