After reading about the Legue signing, they have quoted Matsos saying he has "3 import slots to fill" heres the quote:
"We now have three import slots to fill, we are looking for new players to the team, size, toughness and players who will be able to entertain our fans next season. On Thursday we will confirm two who we hope will do just that, leaving us one final slot available for a high end forward to help the likes of Joe and Jeff score the goals that will enable us to fight for a championship. However they have only signed 7 imports so far - Legue, Talbot, Domish, Sarich, Bolibruck, Mustokov and Munn.
Is this a sign of financial problems going so far that they can't afford the 11 imports? Or spending more money on ten rather than spreading to 11? or a simple misquote or mis-count?

I think it will be a case of alot of money has gone into that d and they won't get an out and out enforcer - whether thats the case we'll have to wait to know!

Whatever happens and whoever they sign it's evident they're broke. You can write of debts all you like but ultimately alienating local businesses ploughing in your own money without return will always result in this outcome.
It could be a long dark season up there if they get anything like the type of return they got from their roster last term. Some would say theya re getting what they deserve for the years of shafting anyone and everyone in the pursuit of glory. There is only so long you can dump on those all around you before the walls come crashing down.

Probably, just can't count. That would also explain the finances.

Nah, I can't see them going with only 10 imports. Regardless of what their finances are actually like (and let's face it - we're all only guessing) they've always portrayed this 'big' image... big club, big aspirations etc. Playing with one less import would fly in the face of that.
Probably a misquote or incorrect count... maybe Matsos was thinking about another import that has already been signed but just not yet announced... who knows?

That was what I initially assumed, however the quote is pretty definite, he not only says 3 left but then affirms that on announcing 2 on Thurs there will be one final slot to fill. Maybe Matsos is going to dust off his skates....?!

To be fair...who cares if they have 10, 11 or 33 imports. As much as I don't want to see any team out of business, having Sheffield as the whipping boys again is fine by me.

I don't think those two things are mutually exclusive, the latter will almost certainly lead to the former as more and more fans desert a sinking ship. They don't like it up 'em

Looks like they've been studying North Korea's approach to democracy on steelbleat, their new approach is to recruit new mods to moderate not to forum rules but by using "their discretion in terms of posts that they feel are damaging to the interests of the Sheffield Steelers even if the post doesn't appear to be in breach of the forum rules"
Ha ha. It seems someone has been on the phone to steelbleat HQ bemoaning the fact that even some of their own fans can now see through the BS and have the audacity to air their views. This on the very same forum that their owner and PR man make regular contributions, usually blindly ignoring the perilous position of the club. The way some such comments brush off what their management company going bust actually means in an attempt to quell fan's fears is frightening. Amateur really doesn't even start to cover it.
HL, your post may well be tongue i cheek but I genuinely don't think a stack more games at Ice Sheffield is out of the question if [/b] they don't have a good start to the campaign.

Sounds like they were going to have 10 imports but they have lifted the cushions of the sofa and found some extra pennies LOL
