Nasty... saw that on this report:- nhl.fanhouse.com/2010/01/18/world-junior-captain-cormier-guilty-of-horrifying-hit/?ncid=txtlnkusspor00000002&eref=nhlgParticularly disturbing is the way that the guy appeared to be convulsing on the ice. Cormier is a nasty piece of work... he's already committed several nasty elbows and checking-to-the-head infractions - all of them obviously intentional. Personally, I was disgusted that he was still allowed to wear the 'C' for Canada at the World Juniors (what the hell kind of example does he set?)... and I wouldn't be sorry if the vicious little scrote never got an NHL place, regardless of what real hockey abilities he may possess. Then again, if he did make it to the top he might come up against a real headhunter... and finish his career in an entirely different way. Poetic justice?

Personally I'd want a guy like that to make it to the pro's just to see him get a damn good seeing to. That hit was truly sickening

Cormier did a similar thing in a recent game between Sweden & Canada linkBoth him & Kassian are done playing for a bit.

Kassian's got 20 games, Cormier probably done for the season. Also what I don't think has been mentioned already is the hit was on a player for the Ramparts who Patrick Roy is head coach, he's said he's getting the RCMP involved. That's disgusting if you ask me, and most people here. The feeling is he's only doing that because of the charges laid on his son Jonathan after the brawl last year.

The cheapest of cheap shots. From a man/boy who is apparently made of elbows. He should be done for at least the season. Despicable. I agree with Shaggy, if he carries on like that he'll end up paying the price he charges. And if he does, there won't be any tears shed here.

Should have got the poor kid off the ice, then cleared the bench. That elbow kid needs a good beating.

Should have got the poor kid off the ice, then cleared the bench. That elbow kid needs a good beating. I strongly disagree with that, and not because of any supposed 'anti-fighting' agenda, neither. Fighting is an integral part of ice hockey... it's a standard response (right or wrong) to a perceived offence. To go out and clobber Cormier would be to effectively put the whole incident within the bounds of 'normal' ice hockey - virtually legitimising his actions. What Cormier did has no place in ice hockey whatsoever, and it requires a non-standard response... a non-game response. Ban him... take him off the ice and make it clear that the whole incident is not 'normal'. Hockey players - even the superstars (eg: Gaborik this week!) - expect to get clobbered every now and then. They're prepared for it... they accept it, by and large. It's not a deterrent. Cormier requires a punishment that he will NOT find acceptable... one that will hurt him long past the time that the bruises have healed. A nice long ban (and an assaul charge?)... now that's more likely to act as a deterrent... not just for him, but for others in the future.

I completely agree Shaggy and everything you've written should happen, BUT, a message should still of been sent on the ice aswell. Cormier should be punished in every way possible and that includes knowing his team mates took a beating for his actions.

I have to say I'm quite glad Toronto didn't draft Kassain; imagine the outcry if a Leafs' prosepct had done that! The scouts said that Kassian had a screw loose.

The fact that he did it again so soon after the previous incident makes it ten-times worse. He should never play again, that'd not only teach him but hopefully set a clear example and president down to deter future incidents like it.
