Saw it on a Leafs forum earlier on today, and it goes to show that European hockey does have it's aggressive side.
Something I've seen for myself in the Prague derby match.

brutal, saw it on Helen B's facebook page earlier and contemplated posting it, but planning got in the way.
the home team (in red) really brought the pain. cant wait to see Don Cherry's reaction to/comments on this.

my geography isnt so good, is Russia in Europe? Some of it is, yes. I think the Ural river forms part of the boundary.

Ain't they cute. lol!
Players of the two Russian youth ice hockey teams - Penguins and the Northern Star - are trying to keep pace with professionals in all aspects. 9-year-old stars have proved - ice hockey is one of the toughest games to play no matter what age you are. A regular game between Russia's young Penguins and Stars turned into all-in massive fight on ice. As a result - 707 minutes of penalty.

The team in red were fined £40,000 for this fight with the whites being fined £10,000. The main combatants including Brandon Sugden were each fined £3000.

The game was stopped and called off as each team lost too many players getting kicked out for fighting. In addition both team get a loss on their records for the game as well.
The KHL has acted on what it saw, imposing a 1 000 000 ruble fine (£20,000) on each team. HC Vityaz also recieved an additional fine of 3,000,000 ruble fine (£60,000) of bringing the league, its business partners and the russian team into disrepect. Both coaches were fined 50,000 rubles, The biggest culprits from both sides (Darcy Verot, Brandon Sugden, Aleksander Svitov, and Dmitry Vlasenkova) were fined for a total of 150,000 rubles. A bunch of players from each side were also suspended for 1 game and the clubs warned if they do anything like that again they could face expulsion from the league.
That I took from the KHL site, although I don't have a link to an english version of the story (there are some good sides to learning russian).

That russian commentator ain t getting very excited lol At one point in the later brawl he wasn't even talking about it, he was referencing a world championships match of Slovakia I think, and also just listing the larger penalties handed out to some of the players.

Its not the case that there was fighting, but that the game desended into an all out brawl and the game had to be stopped. There is more fighting than you would think in the KHL, but the press were not impressed with the battle of chekhov. In fact the main headline on the KHL website the next moring read as "Is this hockey?" with a photo of the brawl.
