2 games seems fair enough to me, certainly puts this 'gouging' to bed as it has been said that if proved it carries a 21 game suspension.

Read the full reply from the Steelers Office here... www.steelersihc.co.uk/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=2817Also includes that Steelers could possibly lose £50,000 if they do not go through to the next round of the CC???

Think the fact that there was no official footage of the match is the reason why it is only a 2 match ban. Now before you start chewing my ear off Nemesis, im not saying that is because Clouts did gauge, what im saying is there was no evidence to prove or disprove if he did or not, so a 2 match ban probably seemed right. The incident i believe waranted more than a game, but not much more, if any, as some people have been shouting for!

Not gonna chew any ears today mate, in fact, not got any left myself, can't think why? Seems a reasonable assumption to me. Peacock. Yep I remember that too, Mike O on ours though assures us that it would have been 21 games if proved.

Dont know what your talking about Nem! I reckon they would assess each incident individually. For some reason, i seem to remember Kurt Irvine at Solihull either getting Gauged or did Gauge and the ban was around the 8 match mark. That is probably a load of nonsense but i got it in my head from somewhere!

Think the fact that there was no official footage of the match is the reason why it is only a 2 match ban. I understood the ban was imposed as a result of the report of the linesman who witnessed the incident. The linesman certainly seemed to be the best placed person to judge what happened. I'm not convinced video evidence would have made much difference to the outcome. After watching the unofficial video I'd say a two game ban is about right.

I agree, but if there was official video footage, this mite of prevented a ban or increased it if it backed up what the one linesman said. Think its best just to let it go now, he has a 2 game ban, thats that.

You gotta laugh at some of the comical comments on Steeltalk that Ryan was falling over when he dragged cloots down, i could have swore Cloots threw a punch went off balance myself which made the take down easier , to me Shmyr never looked in any trouble

Well it's clear we ain't gonna agree, you think your man won, I think ours did. we will have to be happy with the 'official' result recorded on their fight cards by the fight aficionados DRAW Can't see where they get that themselves, but, these guys have all kinds of formulas for working these things out. Also interesting to note that the Cornish fight is down as a loss, this is not the widely accepted outcome from fans of both sides. But again going on the way they work these things out, it's a loss. I think it had a lot to do with punches thrown etc.

For what its worth, i thought Clouthier won the fist fight, but Smear obviously wrestled him to the ground. id say draw. 2 games is not enough. Payette got 3 game ban last year for a punch with the gloves on, not as bad(IMO) as a mass brawl after the hooter with suggestions of SERIOIUS(ok, very difficult to prove) foul play. Wonder what would have been said/done if it had been in a fight with Smear...

Spoke to Nem last night, said it then, its the best they could do with no official evidence.
You couldnt give a huge ban for something where there is no official record either way.
