I've decided I'm not going to bother attending this game, even if there ARE some former Panthers there ...... Last Wednesday's dismal experience against Hull was enough to convince me that I'm not forking out any extra money to repeat the misery all over again....
What do others think?

I missed the last Hull game, so will try and make an effort to see this one. I think it will be a low turn-out unless we see a drastic turn-a-round in form.

I agree. Shell out over & above ST for another midweek game? After last week's mid-week performance against Hull? Nope, not even with Probert & Nieckar. Wonder what they will make of it?

I'll be going, if only to see (hopefully) a bunch of (ex-)players who gave their all every game.

The sad fact is though that those players who featured for the Panthers in the wilderness years (i.e. the period between the move into the new facility right up until the winning of the Challenge Cup) will be cheered with much more gusto than those who featured in some of the Blaiser cup winning teams of the 90's.
What will gall me is the likes of Eric Lavigne getting a bigger cheer than a Garth Premak for instance, or a Barry Nieckar getting greater applause than a Simon Hunt. It's inevitable I guess, but I don't blame the fans (the newer ones at that), I lay the blame squarely at the door of the Panthers organisation who seem to be loathed to acknowledge that the Nottingham Panthers (none of this GMB rubbish either) actually existed prior to 2000.
The club values its tradition that much that they can't even correctly spell the name of arguably, one of Nottingham's favourite hockey son's, Terry Kurtenbach, correctly in an article about his time with the club in one of this season's programmes.
Sad.

I wanna see Scott O'Connor, Chuck Taylor, Trevor Robbins, Simon Hunt, Waggy, Barry Niekar, Jimmy Paek, PC Drouin, Lee Jinman, Randal Webber, Smurf, Doc Durdle, Paul Adey, Garth Premak, Chainsaw, Jaret Zukiwsky.... these are the guys that have shaped my time watching hockey, and made an impact on me. Doesnt matter if they are from the new era or the old! What matters is their impact on the club, and for me Baz had as much an impact as hunty, so on and so forth.
If i get to see some of my old hero's then it will be worth it! And of course the old players will get a bigger cheer than the new boys, thats because the newbies still have to prove themselves. For me, i already place Blaz into my list of Panthers Greats! I honestly think Blaz is worthy of a place in the elite group of panthers players.... i really hope he stays for a lot longer and gets to the point where we are hanging his shirt from the rafters... in the "new" era, rarely has any team seen a player put as much effort in game after game as blaz does.

Blaz ? !!!
For effort, yes. For effectiveness, certainly not so far this season !

Well i was looking forward to this game. As i only started watching panthers in 2004, it would of been nice to get to see some of the players you hear so much about. But at realizing at last weeks Hull game that i wont be able to make the chat show, it finally dawned on me that i cant make the game either , as I'm on a management course in London

How many former players do you think they'll be able to attract in all seriousness? I know they've got Barry Nieckar flying over but how many of the other Canadians will make the journey? It would be great to see the likes of Jimmy Keyes, Garth Premak, Craig Melancon or Darren Durdle again but I doubt it'll happen. I hope they do as much to get the British players to come as their role in the Panthers has been just as big as the imports. In the days when there were 3 imports per team & dual-nationals & the EU didn't have any bearing your British players were an important part of the team.

Blaz ? !!! For effort, yes. For effectiveness, certainly not so far this season ! At the end of the day, what more can you ask for other than 110% effort.... thats something blaz always gives! He works hard and plays with pride and to earn the shirt hes wearing. This will always be a case of personal opinion, but mine is that he is a true nottingham legend in the making.... as is Calle, someone else who is dedicated to the panthers cause! As for players coming over from canada for the game.... does it really matter??? at the end of the day we can always get brent pope to come, hes only in romford..... now there is a player that must be at the game!!!! If you hadnt noticed, that was sarcastic!

Cost to the club also I would think counts in this.

keefe he was that dedicated to the cause that he signed for the teal and orange... (mind you so did paul adey, who dropped like a stone in my estimation after that). But hey ho, we have a team of grafters (mostly!!) but having said that its the mix that wins trophies not just a hardworking team (ask hull who also are a hardworking team but noone least of all their fans expect them to win anything this year), there is no point grafting like blaz simoes etc etc do if there is no end product and as far a both those mentioned are concerned there really isnt enough end point. However imho there are higher earners on our team right now who are grafting like them and arent getting points either so hey ho...

mind you so did paul adey, who dropped like a stone in my estimation after that I had to go and have a minute outside and collect my thoughts when I heard that Paul Adey had signed for them. It was even worse when he scored against us the night of the bench clearance, apparently I looked as if I was about to burst into tears. ;D
