I know matt myers has positive points such as his grit and energy etc and he clearly can score as he showed last night. My point though is that were he not a brit i don't think he'd be in this team. Like people are saying "he's one of the better brits" so what?! He's been playing centre for this team for 3 seasons now which consists of more than 100 games yet his stats are pretty shocking in terms of goals scored. And as for him being a play maker, yes, he is, but the problem is he, for the most part, creates something promising, then blows it cos he either falls flat on his backside or cant pass, or tries what he did last night which is to go it alone and in 99% of the chances he has ends up unsuccessful (last night being the exception and the remaining 1%)

What do you mean 'so what'?
The fact is, we have to have a certain number of Brits, and Myers IS among the better ones to have.

so what....i still feel he's as open to criticism as every other player is, better of the brits or not

20 players approximately beat Matt on the points charts last season. if you divide that by the ten teams we have, thats two per team. So he must be at worst the second best Brit in a given side. Less we want an old re-classed Brit like Wilson or Shudra. Or we are going to get a pedigree like Hand or Weaver etc...(we have Clarke) I think we have someone who fits the bill. Wage cap and all we have a team best chosen for the season.

and, as far as I can remember, he certainly held his own on face-offs. As I remember it, we won very few face-offs full stop. This seems to have been a problem since the CC and is contributing to our failures on the PP and PK. Matt has a problem with his skates I think - if the club can't get him a suitable pair then perhaps we should have a collection and get him some. He is a much better player than his recent bout of falling over makes him seem.

surelly if Pens are a confidence thing - that could be taken in respect to his recent pens - example being they havent gone in so why continue having him as a designated taker??
in respect to what he brings to the team - well he can win face offs (imo)

Makes me wonder if this thread would have been started IF Matt had scored his pen shot? Prolly not - but have been a thread saying how wonderful he was.

Myers is still one of the better face off takers in the league IMO

I actually noticed when he stood BEFORE taking the penalty shot and he looked like the 6th person in a football penalty shootout who really didnt want to take it, looked low on confidence and not up for it and confident in his body language......................... i knew he would miss.......................... as for saying clarke should have taken it, yes he has a good shot but in a 1 on 1 situation he doesnt have the close control, the only way he would have scored would have been to have done what tessier and sutter did 2nd time round and shoot from distance imho

He hasnt got the finesse stick handling fair enough but his shot is probably the best in the league and im sure he can deke if he wants to. A damn sight more than Neilson or Myers anyway

Ever tried playing football with boots that are too loose or to tight? it plays on your mind, if your not comfortable skating, and the ridges arent right and they are causing you to fall over then its going to effect you big time.

To be fair Gazza, he's been doing the same thing for the last 3 years.
I'd still have him in as a player any time though.

i've played football and hockey plenty and i know that the wrong footwear can be a serious pain and can throw you way off, i wont argue with that. But we're supposed to be a professional team, they train on ice for over an hour everyday and more often than not play both nights on a weekend, surely he should have skates sorted, its not like hes playing casually once a week like i do football, he should either have worn them in before match or got some ones that suit him. the whole idea of skates being the problem is amateurish to say the least

. the whole idea of skates being the problem is amateurish to say the least Fact is often stranger than fiction - and getting the right skates in professional hockey seems a lot less straightforward than most of us would expect
