I'm just puzzled how you can class 20 years of non-existence as part of your heritage, or even why you would want to. As I said if the Wembley Lions were to reform there is no way I would look upon it as the same club I supported back in the late 50's early 60's. The key difference being that the vast majority of the Panthers fans I know who supported the original club between 1946-60 (including my own grandma and my late great-grandma) DO consider the present club to be a continuation of the one they started supporting back in the 1940s. As I've said - we're not making our sixthieth season of playing, that would be plain silly. We're marking the sixtieth anniversary of the foundation of the present club's predecessor, without which we'd not be here having this discussion now!

Come on now Stewart lighten up! Do you deduct the time you've spent asleep during your life when you decide which birthday you're celebrating? ;D

Come on now Stewart lighten up! Do you deduct the time you've spent asleep during your life when you decide which birthday you're celebrating? ;D Yes! So do you or at least you told me you were only 23!! Of course the really frightening part of this discussion is that (modern) Panthers & Steelers both have the same beginnings in Sheffield junior hockey. Now that's enough to make Simms & Moran suicidal ;D

Stewart – if you take the time to look at Kim’s original thread that started all this off (which is on page 4 of Talk Hockey), you will see that she said this season the Nottingham Panthers reach a very special landmark as we celebrate the sixtieth anniversary of the foundation of the original club…..We're one of only two clubs in the whole of British ice hockey to be around to witness such an important milestone in our club's history and this is something we can all be very proud of. That has been the premise throughout. It is the anniversary of hockey starting here that we are celebrating, albeit with a 20 year pause in the middle. I don’t see anywhere where anyone is classing 20 years of non-existence as part of our heritage. Still, at least you got the My fledgling club has won more in its 15 year existence that yours has in its "60 years" bit in. Simmsy will be proud of you. Come back in 2041 and we will discuss the merits or otherwise of your club's 60th.

1- Barry Friday. Simply the most amazing night that may not be surpassed for 60 more years.
2 - Bob fixing it. I've never cheered so much for a Panthers goal.
3- Randy Webber. A true Panthers legend.

Number 1 Nottingham Panthers 3-1 Sheffield Steelers - 1996 Benson & Hedges Cup Semi Final Second Leg (October 30th 1996) The first time we'd beat them in an 'important' game. The game was played in an incredible atmosphere and was live on Sky to boot! I remember the ice starting to melt during the 3rd as the atmosphere reached a cruscendo! Then Laxdal's empty net goal which seemed to take forever to go in and then time standing still as it crossed the line. I will never forget the noise in the old place when that happened.
Number 2 Nottingham Panthers 6-4 Sheffield Steelers - The bench clearance and comeback afterwards (February 9th 2001) There's never been a night like it and I doubt very much they'll ever be one like it again! Sheffield's wage cap breaking cheats arrogantly think they've only got to turn up to win the game. WRONG! Not only do we win but we beat them up as well! I'll never forget the sight of Nieckar handing Vial his ass on a plate and then picking him up like a rag doll, dragging him over to the Steelers fans and beating him up some more! Another thing that sticks in my mind about that night was an incredible performance by PC Drouin, still the best player to pull on the black & gold IMO.
Number 3 Nottingham Panthers 3-1 Manchester Storm - Benson & Hedges Cup Semi Final Second Leg (November 12th 1998) Another incredible night at the old barn. Once again an incredible atmosphere and once again live on Sky. A triumph over adversity if ever there was one, I don't think I've ever seen a Panthers side with such a will to win as that night but also the memory of Frank Pieterangelo looking at the clock at every stoppage in play in the 3rd, almost willing it down. Remember, this was a quality netminder who had played several times in the NHL but he was scared! Also a good night for me personally, the one and only time I've won the 50/50! ;D
Another thing from Stef's nominations that made me think "By my reckoning 2006/07 is our 41st season of hockey, all of which have been in the top flight of whatever league structure has been in operation, quite a record." Whoever you are and wherever you're from, that in itself is a stunning acheivement in the uncertain world of British ice hockey and something of which we can be rightly proud IMO.

Only been going for the last 4 years, so can't really comment on the past events. Here is my three.
1. Panthers v Peterborough 13-5.
Although I was not there, just reading the account of the players dropping their sticks onto the ice has to be number 1, reason, at the end of the day it's only a game and just reading the account brought a lump to my throat. There are things more important than winning or losing.
2. Sheffield v Panthers 2-3 OT cc Final.
Managed to get tickets at the last minute, first away match and to win against a much fancied team on their own ice. The place emptied quicker than if there was a fire.
3. Coventry v Panthers 3-2 OT PO Final.
What a great game and skill from both teams, the goal from Boynton. Top drawer.

Nottingham Panthers 6-3 Ayr Bruins - 1989 Heineken Championship Final (April 24th 1989) Wasn't there watched it on the BBC
Nottingham Panthers 3-1 Manchester Storm - Benson & Hedges Cup Semi Final Second Leg (November 12th 1998) Electric atmosphere, stunning display.
Nottingham Panthers 6-4 Sheffield Steelers - The bench clearance and comeback afterwards (February 9th 2001) Who could forget this game.
But one of my personal favourites and one I ocassionally re-watch on video - 94 Autumn Cup final, Panthers 7 Devils 2 (Blaisers' hat-trick) I was there - I was very happy ;D

Panthers winning at wembley....... amazing...first time we had got to the finals and what an atmosphere! i remember stood on my chair counting down those last 10 seconds...and my friend getting chased by tony hands mum!
the Bob Nordmark goal.. wow...
and its not on here...but the last ever wembley final when Panthers came back from 3, 0 against the steelers to level that game ( 3 goals in 90 seconds) and then lose in penalties but how proud we were of our boys....it was the game of the yellow marigolds (i later discovered my allergy to them)

Winning the Benson and Hedges cup final in 1986, the first silver I saw us win, TK what a legend!
Winning at Wembley 1989, a wonderful weekend, total loss of voice the next day. The neutral venue for the end of season jamboree is much missed by those who can remember that far back!
Beating Sheffield in 1997 5---0, unbelievable, amazing.....ever going to be repeated..?

I've limited myself to voting for moments I was lucky enough to witness in the flesh so here goes:
1. Selmar v Mike Rowe. No more needs to be said. 2. Panthers 3 v Manchester 1. Sometimes in hockey the crowd deserves a +1. 3. Sheffield 0 v Panthers 5. The Robber's shut out and Greg Hadden pinning down Corey Beaulieu. The natives were not happy that night. Special mention to for Eric the organist and his rendition of 'Three Blind Mice' that landed him in hot water with the BIHA. Priceless!
Thanks to all involved for helping to bring back so many happy memories. It's a real shame that the only celebration the club seem capable of organising is a 'quick buck' midweek match against a team who mean nothing as far as our history is concerned.

1. Panthers winning the Heineken Play Offs at Wembley in 1989. An event sponsored by a major household name, live on national TV & at a wonderful venue. How can it get better than this?
2. Autumn cup final win against Fife in 1986. The first trophy win of the modern era. None of us knew what to expect or how it felt to win such a game, but what a feeling!
3rd equal - B&H 3-1 semi win over Steelers. Laxdals hat trick. Marty Dallmans pass for his second goal was one of the best set ups i've ever seen.
3rd equal - B&H 3-2 semi win over Manchester. Someone earlier in the thread mentioned Kolesar's contribution. He was outstanding that night, played all over the ice & seemed to log about 45 mins.

Still can't make my mind up about these...... but as voting finishes today I'm going to have to make a choice of some sort! 1) Norwich Union Final of 86 - way before my time but has to be a great moment. 2) Challenge Cup Final win in Sheffield - not the greatest of games but a memorable evening none the less. 3) Bench clearance and come back against the Steelers. An unforgettable game for anyone who was there - even those of us who are not over fond of the pugilistic side of hockey. I should have chosen the 2005 Play-off Final instead as that was a superb game of hockey........ but, well the Bench Clearance game is one that most folk remember Can't believe I've not included Bob Nordmark's goal And Eric should have an honoury award - like Stef I think a good organist can bring a heck of a lot to a hockey game - speed of reaction and a good sense of fun to name but two! ;D Well, I'd better post these selections now..... if I think about them any longer....... I'll go back and change them again...

Just a quick reminder to everyone that this Thursday is the final day for voting. Crikey. Better get mine in. 1. B&H semi v Manchester. Great comeback, great atmosphere etc. 2. Bench clearance v. Steelers. Oh, and the comeback as well. 3. Bob the Builder's last gasp goal. What drama. Why we love hockey encapsulated in 5.6 seconds.

The results from the grumpyminer jury of one, after serious deliberation I decided to stick with events since my first game on Hallowe'en 1998, are as follows-
1. Challenge cup, Sheffield.....60:53. 2. Play-off final 2005. esp. Boynton goal 3. B&H v Manchester.
With honourary mentions to Eric, The Gary Rippingale tribute and Randall Weber's LAST game.
