Very sad news, my love of football owes much to his 1990 World Cup run. Seemed like a genuinely decent chap too.

A genuine Hall of Famer. He seemed like a great gentleman.

Sir Bobby was a true lover of football and a gentleman as well. He was the guy that taught his translator about football and his translator became 'The Special One' - Jose Mourinho.
Sir Bobby was one bloke I would have loved to spend an hour with, I would have learned more in that hour than some coaches could teach in a season.
On top of all that and even through his illnesses, his public face was always a bright one.
Rest Peacefully, Sir Bobby. You will be sadly missed.

He stood out as a man of integrity, humility and honesty in a game sadly lacking in those traits. If anyone deserved to win a World Cup, it was him; but for the "Hand of God" and a Penalty Shootout he might have won two.
I gather he had a bit of difficulty remembering player's names, and when Shola Ameobe was asked what Sir Bobby called him, he replied "Carl Cort"!
The other story I heard about him was when he first went to Ipswich, he and the Chairman (I think it was Tolley-Cobbold in those days) ended up in the Gents at the same time. As Robson left without visiting the sink, the Chairman remarked that it was customary where he came from to wash your hands after visiting the toilet. Robson is said to have replied that it was customary where he came from not to p!ss on your hands in the first place!
RIP

A sad day in the world of football.
Sir Bobby lived and loved the game right up until his dying day.
This great man cared not one bean about money and was motivated by the wet mondays on the training ground, the sound of the ball hitting the back of the net and the roar of his public that followed.
Sir Bobby loved the game and the game loved Sir Bobby.
Rest in peace

Absolute gentleman and a great manager. RIP Bobby
1 memory I have of him was when he was Ipswich manager and Ipswich were the team, they came to Notts in the old first division and had not long beaten Big Rons Man Utd 6 - 0 and were flying. He came out of the tunnel alongside Sirrel and some terrace wag said'Hey Jimmy our boy's don't deserve to be on the same pitch as his team. Jimmy being jimmy just shrugged his shoulders but Robson replied 'Listen your team was promoted last season and has earned the right to play in the 1st division. I guarantee you that you get the same level of respect as Man utd etc. Another guy then piped up 'Does that mean you're gonna blast us for 6 aswell? Bobby just curteously replied 'No-one knows exactly what will happen so let's just watch and enjoy the game shall we? True class act.
And yes Ipswich did thrash us, albeit only 1 - 4

Just to echo what has been said.
A great 'football' man, through and through. The managers and players of today could have learned a lot from how he conducted himself.
RIP Bobby
