"It'll probably work out to about 4 grand so fair play to them." Is that Carson's fee for reffing the games between us this year then

Seems some are more obsessed by the Steelers than by their own apparent team!

Yes Panther do the shirt thing to raise extra cash , But at least the punter has an item of value for their money and it is done through a proper bidding auction , the steelers in this promotion are only selling Pie and Peas plus a drink , the catch they are useing is VIP Experience for which they are paying around £15 for if the pie and peas plus drink is worth around a fiver . Meeting players and the coach can be done for Free and it should be the duty of any sports team to allow fans access for signing and chatting etc , I would cringe and shout out aloud to Gary Moran or Niel Black if the panthers got up to such a rip off idea . I also disagree with parents paying the panthers for the Young kids to become Mascot , this is also exploiting a situation and puts pressure on parents if their kids wish to do this . Raise money yes by all means , but do it honestly . and give value for money . A hot tub experience and a pie and pea + drink for that kind of money is just exploiting a situation of fans desire to meet players . I really don't see what your problem is... other teams charge for entry to 'Meet The Player' nights... the Panthers have done at the Sausage Bar, remember? I do not understand your objection to this, just as I don't understand other people's objections to various shirt auctions, saying that they are 'exploiting' the fans. Cobblers are they. This Sheffield 'Meet The Players' thing, the same by the Panthers, the shirt auctions etc... they all make very clear what you are getting for your money. If people don't think it's worth it - they don't have to part with their cash! You know what you are getting and you have the choice to pay or not. If it was not what was advertised, then that would be a rip-off... but if they know what they are getting, what's the problem? There's no dishonesty here... simply an open choice.

All sounds fair enough to me. Same goes for releasing a new shirt design every year as far as I'm concerned. Nobody is being forced to part with their cash.

True doughnut, but when people cough up a lot of money to buy one for themselves and their kids, it kind of sucks when they are 'out of date' after one season.

I've been going to games for several years now and actually still don't have a hockey shirt yet as I'd rather spend my cash on other things. I'm thinking of making an exception and actually getting one this year, but if I do it'll probably be the only one I get for a while.

Mines out of date (shirt) by 20 odd years......
Thanks for clearing the costs to ST and none ST issue for me. Was not trying to cause a 'stir' at all but if it were as I first thought , cheaper for only some , I'd wonder why.
For what it matters here.I think having a fan on the bench is not a good idea, in the light of what the league says before this. We'll be putting fans on the team next, like Panthers are in photo sessions presently.
Agree...... who says we will win the league? I am enjoying this season so far.Not just because we are near top. But all results as a whole. So heres hoping clubs are to stay 'stable' and we'll all continue to enjoy.

[/quote] Shaggy The dishonest part is the Pay to MEET the players thing at the arena when you can do this for free at most matches , maybe not guarenteed , but I find it easy at Nottingham to meet players at home matches and away if you wait for them getting on the coach as some do at coventry . I should think it would be the same at sheffield or any other rink , at Cardif we all used to meet the players in the bar after the macth there and I had many a conversation with the little italian and it cost me NOWT ! youre ref to Sausage bar meet the players , just remind me how much that costs ? £20 ? £15 ? £10 ? £5 ? or was it £2 , if I remember correct it was around £2 ? not that I went just read about it at the time , now there is another meet the players at the sausage bar for holloween night , lets just see if the panthers will charge around £15 to meet the players . ( I DO NOT THINK SO ) maybe £5 for an evening of Fancy dress and maybe music with the added bonus of meet the players at this event . thats a bit differant to £20 for pie and peas and meet the players is it not ? I understand that clubs have to raise extra cash from other ways , at nottingham this is done mainly from merchandise and Good Quality pictures from Dave page via the Panthers . I think other hair brained ways of getting extra cash from Fans that have saved up for season tickets or pay on a regular basis to support their team , in the form of a HOT TUB and a pie and peas supper is just plain Taking the PEA If Panthers did things like this on the back of the Fantastic following to France this last weekend which is no cheap thing to do as you know ( You was there ) then it would be one big Exploiting of fans Cash and Goodwill . and that is why I have this veiw on the way the meet the players by paying high sums of cash for the privalidge is one big Rip off and a Dishonest way of making money by exploitation of Fans .

Unlike football, i actually find that old hockey shirts are cooler than new ones.

Unlike football, i actually find that old hockey shirts are cooler than new ones. I tend to agree with that. I prefer the panthers shirts from 2000 to this seasons. There is far too much advertising on now I appreciate it is necessary, but it looks messy. I hope NHL teams don't ever have sponsors on.

Can i just say....
If you dont wanna pay 20 quid to have the VIP package at sheffield, well, dont. Simple really. If you dont wanna pay for an auction shirt, then dont. Again pretty simple.
Some people like the idea of the VIP package and will buy it happily feeling as though they have had a good deal. Some people call me stupid for spending silly amounts of money to go to all the home and away matches, but i love it, and im very happy, so sod what they think!
If the fan get injured, then thats awful. But its not our problem, if something goes wrong and sheffield didnt have the right authorisation, then its them thats screwed not us!
Short and simple solution, if its not for you, dont buy it, if you dont wanna hear it, dont listen... so on and so forth!
By the way, not sure you will all be so keen on watching the hot tub if i were to book meself a little session in it!!!
