Well, we made hard work of beating Huddersfields reserve team last night. As we were only top of the table on points difference (+17) and Leeds playing Celtic Crusaders today. I fear the league leaders shield is slipping from our grasp.

If we don't put at least 50 points on the Crusaders tonight, I'll be very disappointed.
Rhinos need to use this game as the way of burying St Helens regular season.

Well, hopefully that's Saints dead and buried then.

I would hardly say dead and buried when it is only points difference that seperates the two teams. But Leeds do look the stronger at the moment.

Dont see why people are worrying about the points difference anyway cause Leeds and Saints have to play each other yet, so doubt it'll come into it.

If anyone is coming over to see the Hull v Tilberg game on saturday, the Challenge Cup will be on in the Wittington and Cat pub across the road from the rink

Leeds United used to be called "Dirty Leeds" Now the Rhinos have taken that title.
Grapple tackles, Chicken wing tackles, hair pulling, James Graham got punched in the face or the back of the head every tackle, before getting a kick/knee in the face in a tackle that left him dazed and bleeding from the nose. Why would he want to shake hands with a bunch of thugs who can only win by cheating?
Danny McGuire changed direction to run into Leon Pryce to get the obstruction/professional foul call and yellow card for Pryce. Lee Smith's high tackle on Lee Gilmour was appalling and should have seen him leave the field for 10 minutes at least, Smith went into that tackle with the intent to take Gilmour out of the game. As for Keith Senior and the punch on Jon Wilkin, well that should have been a red card not a yellow. Worse than that was the fact that Senior did not leave the field straight away when shown the card and wanted to "see you outside after the game". Absolutely disgusting behaviour.
I had not expected Saints to get anything from Headingley especially with Leeds running in 27 tries in the previous 2 games by playing a good running rugby game. But McLennen's fear of the better team, although out of form, meant Leeds resorted to playing Thugby league to come away with the 2 points. Referee Bentham didn't help by being so lenient with Leeds tactics. I hope to see the RFL making some comment including citations and suspensions during the coming week but I feel that will be in earnest.
Good to see Ryan Hall didn't get involved, he had a great game. Got lucky with his first try as a couple of passes looked forward.

Well the citations came.....and the Rhinos got off easy. Kylie Leuleuai just got fined £300 for busting James Graham's face with his shoulder. Keith Senior came out with a one game ban and a £300 fine for punching Jon Wilkin, with no mention of any punishment for offering to take it outside. Jamie Jones-Buchanan got away with the same one game ban and £300 fine for attempting to remove James Graham's arm from its socket at the shoulder. Surely there should be a minimum of 3 games out for such dangerous play and intent to injure.
Those weak punishments allow all 3 players to be available for the all Superleague play-off games. Odds on Leeds try the same tactics should they meet Saints in the post season.
Edit: James Graham will not be available for Saints V Catalans this Friday due to damage to his rotator cuff tendon in his left shoulder, caused by the chicken wing tackle. Saints medics hope that he will have recovered in time for the play-offs.

Obviously we're not going to agree on all this, however, my thoughts...
Leuleuai - no real defence, but seen week in, week out, and never gets more than a fine, if that.
JJB - these tackles are a hot topic, and should be targetted, however the panel were consistent in that previous incidents recieved the same ban & fine.
Senior - Whilst Senior should know not to retaliate, Wilkin instigated the incident in the tackle on Senior. This is commented on by the panel. .
As 6:13 of the video shows, Senior DID leave the field immediately upon getting carded, so not sure what your point is there.

No we won't agree much on this, but that is the beauty of it, cos I am sure we won't be punching each other because of our differing opinions. BUT... you are right about the shoulder in the face tackles. They happen far too often without being punished. Saints lost Fa'asavalu and Long to injury due to this type of tackle. AND as you correctly pointed out Senior did leave the field on seeing yellow, I originally thought the card had been shown earlier, my error, although he should have shut up and walked away when told. I can't believe JJB actually appealed against the decision. Although the RFL have now decided it was only a dangerous tackle and not a chicken-wing. LinkI am not sure how they define what a chicken-wing tackle is but I would imagine this could start a whole wave of appeals following more tackles of this nature. I hope the RFL will be strong should that occur. One thing I am sure we do agree on though. Rugby League is a tough but brilliant sport, Friday's game was superb with a bit of everything and should the two teams meet in the grand final - it will be one hell of a game. It is probably what stops me missing the hockey in the summer.

Was a magnificent match, had everything. And the tag of "Dirty Leeds" just refers to all our teams, and i dont mind that, abit of rough and tumble in any physical sport is entertaining to say the least. Adds fire to the games often enough and brings out the best in some players. Great superleague campaign this year by all, Even the whipping boys made some of their games worth while, and hopefully they will be better next season once established. As for the title, i wanted Leeds to win the league, and now we've done that, all eyes on the play off trophy and our defence of it

Well Hull gave it a good go for 40 minutes, shame it took its toll after 50 minutes. Main news from the game though is get well soon Chev Walker because that looked nasty and was a horrible site!

Who is this Hull you talk about ;D they came 12th !! ;D
Back on topic Chev Walker had an operation last night and the Surgeon said it went well, and he will undergo a second op today, this is according to the Hull KR forum.
All joking aside, did you see how hard he was, even clapping the fans when he was strechered off, couldn't imagine some premiership footbalers doing that!
link to footage..NOT FOR THE SQUEMISH
Hopefully Rovers will have Briscoe,Galea,Webster and Murell back for the sudden death qualifiers

Yes I was quite encouraged by the spirit of Rovers up untill Leeds went ahead early into the second half.
Considering we had a Prop playing as a centre, a young kid on his proffesional debut(Scott taylor) and Fitzhenry playing as a makeshift full back as well as the 4 big players out through injury , I dont think we did too bad, and if we get through the next round I would be surprised to see Leeds pick us in the semi final

Respect to Chev Walker. I look forward to seeing him next season. He lifted himself on to the stretcher and applauded the fans, I guess he would have tried to walk off had it not been a compound fracture. Respect to both sets of fans for singing his name as he was carried off and respect also to Keith Senior, who has redeemed himself just slightly in the eyes of this Saints fan, in getting the game stopped and the ref across immediately.
Now on to Saints, great defence last night against Huddersfield to keep them try-less. We took our chances and came out on top. Kicking is still an issue and I really don't believe Saints are strong enough to win the Grand Final this season.

Grand Final on Saturday. Let's hope for a spot of rain.
Ganson is ref, even though he's from St Helens??? I thought that sort of thing only happened in the Elite league lol!
