Just watching the semi final of the cup against Manchester. Wow. Its like watching a different sport.
We really had a style, an identity that season. Zukiwsky and Beaulieu brought the physical protection, every single guy on the roster could stick up for themselves.
Some of the physical play in this game would carry suspensions in the elite league, not even 2mins in those days! And thats with Carson reffing.
Iv just enjoyed watching this free DVD Iv got more than pretty much every game iv paid £15 to watch at the NIC this season!
Oh, and Troy Neuimier was like a different player back then, literally it looks nothing like him lol

Just to embarrass Jono further. One of the great Panther nights. I was very ill and only just managed to find the energy to go. So glad I did. Listen to the crowd! We had a fantastic team that season and but for injuries might well have taken more than the Benson & Hedges Cup.

1 goal conceded on 56 times short handed! Now that was a PK unit!

Cracking game. If I remember right we played the Storm again in the league on the saturday and had a great 3rd period line brawl. 98-99 was my first season when I never missed a home game. What we see now aint even the same game to what is was then and it will never return to the good old days. Even the fans where different back then, loud, blood thirsty and they knew what they was talking about. How things change eh.

Its strange how i never seem the old faces in the NIC from back in the days at LPS anymore... The crowd was electric every night I can t remember what match day prices were back them but it was worth every penny ... unlike today . It was that era what got me hooked..... i don t know who could possibly get hooked watching this present stuff

What an atmosphere that night though, the place was literally rocking. Remember getting the no. 28 bus down Carlton Hill with my mate and getting involved in a very brief conversation with a fan who proclaimed us to have "no chance". I suppose on paper we didn't, but it's a good job that ice hockey is played on ice and not on paper!! Looking back on those players though, it's sad to see how the quality of squads has fallen. I know the ISL was bad news for the Brits, with all but a small handful wiped out, but there were some bona-fida characters plying their trade back then. The quality on offer was immense.

Agreed with the above. My dad was one of the people who went every week and now goes to the odd game, he watched the DVD today and was as excited about the game as when it was happening. Its pretty sad you can enjoy a dodgy recording off sky sports from 10 years ago more than a live game in the flesh but it really is so great to see.
Manchesters squad that season didnt have a guy on it who wouldnt walk this league. I know we picked up Gallant (didnt play that season) but imagne signing Askew,Tomlinson and Jablonski... it would make Calder/Carlson/Deschatelets (IMO the best line in the league) look like me/darrellpanther/zukiwskyfan lol! Weaver proves that really, he was a third line winger who got the odd shifts, now hes possibly the biggest commodity in the elite league.
Also, the fans of ZT, watch that season, that was hockey. To be great at that time you had to have everything to your game and be a well rounded player. Skill isnt going blue line to blue line with the puck as fast as you can... it was taking 20 hits a shift, holding onto the puck and being able to still make things happen.
