Tonight's results NIHL 1 Conference Solway Sharks 4 Solihull Barons 3
NIHL Cup (Midland Group)
Sutton Sting 7 Nottingham Lions 4
A good effort against a very strong Sutton Sting. Period Scores: 3-1/1-0/3-3. Scorers Harry Hopkins 2+0, Cameron Pywell 1+1, Tyler Poole 1+0, Thomas Dermott 0+1, Louie Andrew Newell 0+1, Jack Matthew Crowston 0+1. The Lions did manage to up the total of shots on goal in this game and that might lift the confidence in going forward. The Sting are in town tomorrow in a NIHL 1 Conference game with a face off at 7.30pm. It would appear that the stream from the game tomorrow will have to be shelved due to an EIHA rule that junior players parents permission has to be sought for live streaming to occur. The fact that photographers have taken shots whilst the game is in play for as long as I can remember and allowed without resorting to seeking parental permission appears to carry no sway with the powers that be. There are plenty of teams around streaming games who have junior players as part of the bench strength and may actually be iced and this presumably appears to have been overlooked, until now. How on earth can this minority sport get sufficient coverage if such small minded bureaucrats throw up unnecessary barriers? The only thing that distinguishes a fully kitted up player as a junior is the face mask. I doubt the porn sites and other accessible bizarre sites will find much to attract their customers attention.

Speaking to a few people about the issue of streaming. Concensus appears to be that this could very well be unworkable in a number of respects. The Lions just one week ago were up in Widnes for a Midland Cup game and this was streamed. Have teams now to ask other teams to shelve their streaming service due to incoming teams icing junior players? What about National and Conference games at junior level they are both photographed and streamed. No team photos of players that are recognisable as juniors, where will it end? A parental objection must limit that player's chances of playing at games that are streamed and any interaction with his/her own team would also require certain limitations eg award ceremonies amongst other social and sporting activities. That situation could then lead to allegations of discrimination against certain players. The opposite, of course, is that due to the few players where objections are raised this could lead to a demand for the cessation of all visual media at all events where junior players are involved. There must be clarity as at the moment there appears to be none and this cannot continue. Tonight's game against the Sutton Sting will be live steamed as Sutton have agreed for this to occur. It looks as though the way ahead at present is for clubs to talk with each other and agree to stream or not to stream. As there is no clear directive this appears to be the most sensible way forward. Someone within the hierarchy have to get their ducks in line before it becomes more farcical. I wait with bated breath for the outcome of this one. Might be a long wait!!

Tonight's results
Blackburn Hawks 2 Solihull Barons 10 Nottingham Lions 1 Sutton Sting 6
Given the changes within the Lions team and the obviously strengthened Sutton Sting the guys did as well as expected. I do remember the Sting hitting the Lions with an 11-1 victory last season. Overall this Lions team is showing some positive signs and I hope a couple or so positive results is the outcome as the season progresses. Period Scores: 1-2/0-1/0-3. Of the 6 goals scored by the Sting Palak and Lascek contributed 2 goals and assisted on 4. Lions goal scorer Tom Parkinson unassisted.
Solihull Barons are looking an improved team on last season. The Barons lost by the odd goal up at Solway Sharks on Saturday but followed that up with an on the road thrashing of Blackburn Hawks 2-10.

Games this weekend Sunday 13.10.19
NIHL Cup (Midland Group) Widnes Wild v Solihull Barons
NIHL 1 Conference
Billingham Stars v Blackburn Hawks
Nottingham Lions v Whitley Warriors
The Lions face the present top of the conference Warriors who have had a very positive start to this season after the crushing that they and many teams suffered at the hands of the now departed Telford Tigers, Hull Pirates, and Sheffield Steeldogs who have joined the newly formed National Division. Player coach David Longstaff, as well as supporting his two now famous footballing sons at Newcastle United, is still proving a troublesome player who, now in his mid 40s, is leading by example a strong Whitley team. Always a powerful unit the Warriors will prove a massive challenge to our guys who will have to dig down deep to contain the onslaught. According to the EIHA the face off is 5.40pm but the expectation locally is a 6.00pm start.

Tonight's Results NIHL Cup (Midland Group)
Widnes Wild 3 Solihull Barons 9
NIHL 1 Conference
Nottingham Lions 0 Whitley Warriors 8
Billingham Stars 9 Blackburn Hawks 5
Lions suffered at the hands of the North Easterners but given the ice time put in by the youngsters this weekend at u18 and u20 and missing four (NM Tom Hovell, Jamie Hovell, Tom Parkinson, and Stephen Heape) there was little the guys could do to hold back the opposition. The scorers for the Warriors were the usual suspects with their imports and their senior Brits sharing the spoils. Period Scores: 0-3/0-2/0-3. Nice to see the Longstaff boys Sean and Matty (Newcastle United players) at the NIC to watch the old man doing his stuff. The under 18s won their game yesterday against Whitley 12-0 whilst the u20s played this morning beating Sutton Sting u20s 6-2. Sutton iced a Sheffield Steeldogs player for this game but he was unable to turn this game for the Sting.

Games this weekend Saturday 19.10.19 Conference Sutton Sting v Billingham Stars
NIHL Cup (Northern Group) Solway Sharks v Murrayfield Racers
Sunday 20.10.19 Conference Blackburn Hawks v Solway Sharks
NIHL Cup (Midland Group) Widnes Wild v Sutton Sting Solihull Barons v Nottingham Lions
The Lions hit the road and take the short trip down to the Hobs Moat to meet the Barons. A hard task at the best of times and given the recent result between these two this will be a real uphill battle for the Nottingham guys. Perhaps more about damage limitation on the night, but an improvement on the last result would be a boost for the youngsters.

The Barons continued where they left off as they did a solid job of despatching the Lions unceremoniously this evening. The Hobs Moat Rink is a challenge for so many teams with the crowd virtually up alongside the playing surface. Having visited the Barons on a number of occasions in the past the pressure can be enormous for any visiting team. Every game is a learning experience and the Hobs Moat is one of the more memorable I am sure for the youngsters. Period Scores: 5-0/4-0/4-0.

Weekend Results Saturday Conference Blackburn Hawks 4 Sutton Sting 3
Sunday NIHL Cup (Northern Group) Billingham Stars 2 Whitley Warriors 6
NIHL Cup (midland Group) Solihull Barons 13 Blackburn Hawks 5
Nottingham Lions 0 Sutton Sting 4
The first period in this game saw the Sting's Import snatch a couple of goals with the period ending 0-3. The Lions held the Sting's attack in the second period and had a real go without scoring whilst also stopping the Sting adding to the three gained in the first. The third saw the Sting add one more goal to their tally ending the game with a 0-4 scoreline. The young guys do appear to be coming to terms with the game at a senior level. Some of the young players played at u18 yesterday and then turned out for the u20s against Sheffield today. Apparently with a 9-1 lead and with two periods played a number of the u20s left the Sheffield game to return to Nottingham to play for the Lions. The u20s went on to win the game adding another couple of goals to the score. These young guys do not know when to give up, talk about commitment, 100% all the way and that is truly incredible. Well done guys.

Hi steve2019
Spoke with one of the Lions people. There are very limited supplies of the pucks and the guy that sells them on game nights is Dave Wright known better as Shaggy who is also a moderator on this site. Dave is very well known to Panthers and Lions fraternity. I am led to believe that Shaggy is on holiday at the moment hence him not being at the game last night. Hopefully this info' proves helpful and hope you get your hands on a couple of the rapidly diminishing supplies of Nottingham Lions pucks. Good luck and thanks for your support.

My apologies for not being there last night - prior commitments unfortunately. I'll be there at the home game this Sunday (hosting Widnes Wild) which is after the Panthers game... face-off scheduled for 7:30pm in the Olympic Rink. I'll make sure to put a couple of the pucks aside for you - we've also got some game-worn jerseys left (bargain at £25 each!), a few lanyards, a few pin badges, and still a few baseball caps I think. Hopefully see you there!

Hi. Thanks both for your replies. I didn’t say in previous post but unfortunately i live in south wales, i was just on a hockey break for the weekend. (Plus notts county game on saturday) Im actually a devils season ticket holder so only manage to visit other teams on rare occasions throughout season. If i sent money via bank transfer or pay-pal would it be possible to post them to me? Pin badges sound good as well. I have tickets for the olympic qualifiers in February. Would the pucks still be around then? Thanks again for your replies Regards Steve

Hi steve2019
I can assure you that there is nothing unfortunate about living in south wales. My wife and I have friends in that part of Wales and we love visiting both the south and the north. Hopefully Shaggy will be able to help you out. Good luck and, above all, enjoy the hockey. We can assure you that the Lions would be more than happy for you to return, if possible, before the season ends.

At the very least - yes, I'll be at the Winter Olympics games in February (with the GBSC mob) so if nothing else I can get stuff to you then. Will check what there is and PM you.

Games this weekend: Sunday 10.11.19 Conference Blackburn Hawks v Solway Sharks
Saturday 09.11.19 NIHL Cup (Northern Group) Dundee Comets IHC v Murrayfield Racers Solway Sharks v Billingham Stars
Sunday 10.11.19 NIHL Cup (Northern Group) Whitley Warriors v Murrayfield Racers Billingham Stars v Dundee Comets IHC
NIHL Cup (Midland Group) Solihull Barons v Sutton Sting
Nottingham Lions v Widnes Wild (Face off for Lions v Wild is 7.30pm)
The Laidler Conference Champions and Play Off Champions 2018/19 are at the NIC to meet the Lions in the NIHL Cup game and will be eager to overturn the result when these teams met at Widnes earlier this season. In that game the Lions managed a very narrow 2-3 result. The Wild are bolstered by having two imports in Michal Novak and Jakub Hajek and a number of very seasoned British players including Lee Kemp who is an ex Nottingham player. Players such as Bez Hughes, Shaun Dipnall,Dan Bracegirdle, and Peter Toth will pose big problems and the Nottingham Youngsters will need to be on top of their game to unsettle these very experienced players. The Lions, in the main, are now young and a developing team and challenges such as that provided by the Widnes Wild will prove a valuable experience. Should be worth a watch for any Panthers fans who require that bit more hockey.

Saturday NIHL Cup (Northern Group) Dundee Comets IHC 3 Murrayfield Racers 6 Solway Sharks 7 Billingham Stars 4
Sunday NIHL Cup (Northern Group) Whitley Warriors 5 Murrayfield Racers 3 Billingham Stars 9 Dundee Comets IHC 6
NIHL Cup (Midland Group) Solhull Barons 7 Sutton Sting 5
Nottingham Lions 5 Widnes Wild 5 (Lions win on penalty shots)
This proved to be one heck of a game with the young Lions team stretched but they just dug in and probably should have wrapped this game up in regulation time. As it was the Wild kept chasing down the score always playing catch up but having the ability and experience to keep applying the maximum pressure and pulling the game back particularly in the second period. The game went into overtime without either team claiming the win and then went to penalty shots with the Lions taking the game claiming a 6-5 victory. The Lions went up against a Widnes team with real depth of hockey experience and gave the young Lions a real battle and the boost of the win. Shaun Dipnall with 3 goals certainly kept the Wild in the game. Period Scores: 2-0/1-3/2-2 Scorers:Bailey Martin Challans 2+1, Jack Mattew Crowston 1+0,Cameron Pywell 1+0,Owen Edward Davis 1+0, Jamie Hovell 0+2, Louie Andrew Newell 0+1,Thomas Palmer 0+1
