well well once agian mr raven posts a comment on what he knows nothing about "Rick-ay! Incidentally, by going after Box and Scott Ward in the same game, Jonny Bell has now become the greatest Lions player of all time. A scientific fact." you so called greatest player of all time could have cause a permanent injury to ricky box whilst kneeing him ricky was agianst the boards at the time scott ward done what any other player would have done and stook up for his team mate .. later in the game you so called best player of all time bottled it agianst the same ricky box.so called greatest player didnt have the bottle to go toe to toe with tomo and once agian bottled it . so i think in future you should stick to commenting on games that you were at . Does it hurt where I touched that nerve? If I only commented on games I went to, I wouldn't get a laugh out of seeing you get so upset about something as silly as a light-hearted internet post. Clearly by my use of the words "scientific fact" I was joking about Jonny and obviously I don't want to condone anything that was done as a deliberate attempt to hurt a fellow player. To use a similar phrase, it's a scientific fact that the greatest Billingham player of all time is Richard Griffiths - mainly for the way he used to keep Billingham in games, but more recently for the way he keeps them out. Good luck to the Bomb Squad for the rest of the season, and with a bit of luck we can have rounds five and six in the playoffs - given that the two games I have seen were settled by one late goal and that the two up in Billingham have been similarly close, it could probably be argued that four of the top five games of the season for the Lions were the ones against Billingham (first placed being when we beat Whitley up there). Can't wait for the Sheffield game

Lions vs. Sheffield Sunday 25/01/09Nottingham Lions once again are pleased to announce that anyone with a ticket for Sunday's Panthers vs. Blaze game, or a Panthers Season Ticket will have a pound off admission for the Lions game on Sunday evening. It's a must-win game for the Lions! With both Sheffield and Whitley having games in hand over the Lions, we need to win as many of our last games as we can to stand a chance of defending our title. The first two games against Sheffield went their way with 4-1 victories - both at Ice Sheffield and at the NIC. However when the Lions played in Sheffield earlier this month Chris Colegate scored the game-winner with just 7 seconds remaining! If you're down at the NIC watching the Panthers, then please stay on if you can to watch the Lions... Face off time?

One hell of a game!
Lions went 5-2 up by the end of the second period... two quick goals by Sheffield later on in the third started to cause a few stomach upsets, but the Lions held on to their lead, and finished very worthy 5-4 winners. Lions MoM was Stewart Bliss.
A real 4-pointer, and although it's not going to be any easy task keeping hold of first place, it's a very important step towards the chance of the Lions retaining their title of league champions.

I think that could be an understatement! That was an absoutely HUGE game for both sides, and tbh, I didn't think we'd get the points last night. I think that showed we have the potential to retain our title, however we've still got to meet Whitley Bay at home yet and they, along with Sheffield, are our main threats to the title. Considering that coach Martyn Etheridge was stuck in Holland after his flight back to East Mids was cancelled, and also without Chris Colegate and Joe Wightman it was a good performance from the Lions.

A great result and a fantastic game to watch but not a great performance by either side. The pass for the first goal (from Norton I believe) was one of the best assists I've seen all season. When we followed it up with a PP goal, I started pinching myself. However we came back down to Earth with a bump when we allowed Sheffield back into the game - our inability to clear the zone cost us two of the goals but it could have been much worse. Too many times the play was taken back towards our goal by our ironic forwards (especially Lachowicz and Neil, but they weren't the only ones), which put our defence under a lot of unnecessary pressure. However when they did fancy taking the puck up the other end they were often too good for Sheffield's defence.
I thought it was a typical Levers game in that it had some fantastic saves, one howler, some bad luck (that deflected neutral zone shot) and some good luck (the one that hit the bar in the second). However the most telling point that it was a typical Levers game is that even though Sheffield brought immense pressure late on in the game, they could not get the puck in the net as Alan's nerve held firm. Despite all the acclaim that other goalies on teams like Sheffield, Whitley and Invicta get, I still think the best goaltending duo in ENIHL is Levers and Griffiths.
Two well-earned points that keep our momentum going and does wonders for stopping Sheffield's. Here's hoping for a tie next week when they face Whitley. For us it's the Newcastle Northeast Mincoffs ENIHL Vipers Reserves next week. I can't imagine it'll be pretty, but I can't imagine it'll be dull either.

Wouldnt argue with that, as a player whos played against both guys Id say as a pairing they are right up there. However Id say Sheffields trio is right up there aswell, Ben, Dimitri and Andy Bagshaw are a very competant threesome and a big reason they are right up there, despite not having the superstars of Whitley,Nottingham and Coventry.

Whilst not being able to speak for Whitley or Coventry, nobody in the Lions team or the management structure refer to themselves or anybody as superstars, can you please explain who this comment refers to, as the Lions play as a squad of players who play for each other with a common goal.

Lol steady on, I never said they did! Lacho,Bullas,Neilly,Graham and Norton are on 2 ways with an elite league club so I was referring to them as stars at ENIHL level

Spot on! There's no superstars/prima donnas on the Lions team! They could try it but I know that neither Martyn, Jan or Rich would stand for it and the player would soon be slapped back down again. I thought that Lacho had an excellent game last night - fitting I think that he Captained the team in Chris' absence. Lol steady on, I never said they did! Lacho,Bullas,Neilly,Graham and Norton are on 2 ways with an elite league club so I was referring to them as stars at ENIHL level They're good players, but not stars - at least not yet! People seem to forget that these guys are 17/18/19 years old. They're still learning to play the game - but they're fortunate that they're learning from some good coaching, and having good players round them. One of the things that makes this (and last season's) Lions team so good is because there's no "them" and "us". Most of these guys grew up playing hockey together so know each other really well. The "new" and "not so new" guys that we've had over the last season or two have all fitted in well. There's tremendous team spirit there, and I think that's the reason why we've managed to score so many last-gasp winners this season, and why we've managed to hold on to a lead where before we'd have lost games like last night's. The players appreciate the limits that we're under as a team, and as much as we'd love to do other stuff we simply can't because the money is not there. They accept there are limits and simply move on. I know that every single guy that gets out there for training and games gives 100% and I know that they'll be proud if we win the League. But also I know that if we don't manage to defend our title, we'll simply forget it and move on to the playoffs, or the thought of briging the silverware back to the NIC for 2009/2010.

I am aware of all of that, it was just a flippant comment about how much more talented the Lions squad is than Sheffields!! It wasnt meant to be detrimental at all, in fact it was a compliment!

Honestly - I say one nice thing about some Lions players and all hell breaks loose!
Rich - having seen both of Sheffield's goalies stand on their head to beat us in recent years, and then have shaky games and still beat us, it's nice to see results going our way. As it is - in typical "lucky Sheffield" style (again, flippant comment), the freak deflection turned the tide back enough in Sheffield's favour to allow them to hold on to the tiebreaker advantage.

This was mentioned in the Lions programme last weekend, so well done Eurohockey for keeping up. IIRC Dean was (or maybe still is) at university in Nottingham and trained with the Lions a few times last year - he looked pretty useful then so he should be a good addition to the Lions' current lineup.

Lions are still top, now have 39 points, Sheffield 34 & Whitley 33.
We can get a maximum of 47, as can Whitley who beat Kingston Jets 5-4. Sheffield tied 3-3 with Billingham so the max they can get is 46.
Lions need a 4-pointer next weekend, we play Kingston in Hull on Sat, and Whitley at home on Sunday. Both games are huge.

Sheffield tied 3-3 with Billingham so the max they can get is 46. Lions need a 4-pointer next weekend, we play Kingston in Hull on Sat, and Whitley at home on Sunday. Both games are huge. Which means... if the Lions can win their remaining 4 games (Kingston away twice, hosting Whitley once and Coventry once) then they have won the league - again. Of all the remaining games, the Whitley one is the most crucial... beat them, and they have to rely on us dropping points elsewhere as well as them winning all of their other remaining games. Obviously, it would be nice if Sheffield and Whitley would drop points in their other games as well - take the pressure off a little - but the Lions' fate is in their own hands now. Next Sunday is going to be an absolutely crucial one, and any and all support will be welcome!
