Best game i've seen was at the NIC in October 2001 i think it was when we drew 6-6 with London Knights. We were bloody awful for the first two periods and deservedly found ourselves 5-1 down going into the 3rd...then the comeback. Amazingly we were then 6-5 up after scoring 5 straight, but then London equalised with a minute left and that was that. (games just finished as a draw in that season). A great game, at the end of the second GM and NB went into the locker room and threatened them all with flights home later that week, happy days. We where c'rap but the hockey played around us was fantastic that season

I walked out at 5-4. I knew it was going to happen. Just be thankful the league hadn't introduced penalty shots, because you know it would've ended in a loss.

No contest. The B&H Semi against the Manchester Storm in LPS when they were pretty much the best team ever seen over here and we beat them with 13 skaters and Huntie playing with a broken hand. Can't remember the year but that was the greatest performance I've ever seen by a Panthers team (I doubt it'll ever be bettered) and the old place was rocking like never before.

I remember the game being great and then we played the Storm again at home on the saturday night and some scores where settled with Zukiwsky battering Brad Rubachuk in the 1st period and then a 5 on 5 line brawl in the 3rd. The 98-99 season saw some awesome games. One of my fave games is the 8-2 win over the Steelers at home in 02-03.

This is really hard and has been taxing me since Kim started the thread. I have come to the conclusion the only way to answer this is to pick the best games from the four very different eras since Panthers returned in 1980: pre-Heineken, Heineken, ISL and Elite. Pre-Heineken has to be the 7-7 draw with Dundee in November 1982. Rockets had raised the bar with their import signings that year (Brinster, LeBlanc and the fantastic Roy Halpin). We had watched a fantastic 7-7 draw the week before against Streatham but this one topped it. Halpin got 4 goals, one whilst skating backwards, but Gudzuinas scored the highlight when he jumped out of the penalty box to break away and, rather than rounding the goalie, simply smashed it from the blue line. Boy did the net bulge on that one. Heineken era - I'll go for another draw. 5-5 v Fife in November 1988. Like Dundee before them Flyers had also raised the bar by signing three Czech imports, very unusual at a time when the Iron Curtain was still there. Milan Figala, Jindrich Kokrment and Vincent Lukac. Lukac was the star: small, fast and scorer of 4 goals. But Paul Adey got a hat-trick for us in a pulsating game that saw us come back from 5-3 down, and both sides do a lap of honour at the end to standing ovation. ISL - Battle of Lower Parliament Street, of course. There were better games for the purists, but who can forget that one..........or the commentary on the video. Elite: definitely the Championship final in 2005, where what was left of our team took grand-slammers Coventry all the way in the best final for years. I was so, so proud of what we achieved that weekend in the face of unbelievable injuries and heaps of what I thought was unfair criticism of the coach. Our NHLers were huge and Boynton's goal and thumping check on Payette in front of our goal will live in my memory for a long time.

Steve McKenna was immense, you could see why he was an NHLer that day. Always knew it would be Ash who delivered the knockout blow though - it just had to be. Panthers were expected to be swept aside but fought a tremendous rearguard action and almost took the game to penalties. The thing I remember most about the game was the intensity and skill of it. I guess is why many neutrals rated it the best final for quite a while. I was certainly proud to be a Panthers fan that day.

THat was my first playoffs......
I was sat with the cov fans for day 1 but managed to find a random seat in with the Panthers for the final.
I still see Tait bursting down the wing and firing the winner home over Kudrna.

I'd rank that Boynton goal as the best I've ever seen.
That was a tremendous performance and one of the few occasions since we moved to the new rink where we've been able to rekindle the spirit and determination of old. I was gutted we lost that day, but very very proud.

Gotta agree with all of that. The final that year was the best standard of hockey the Elite league has ever seen IMO. Belak and Boynton lead by example and took their teams into a final where everybody wanted to win.
Disappointed at the time to lose but looking back the speed of the game aswell as the tenacity of the hits and work in the corners it was almost worth losing to see such a game

This year beating the Steelers 5or6 - 1 ending our dry streak. Also the Quarter final last season winning in there own bar was better then winning the play-offs to me.
Also, 06/07 season we were against teh Bison. A game in while Matus Patrico gt sent off for third man in. The game will always be remembered but me because with about 6 mins to go they were 4 - 2 up. We scored 4 goals in that time to go on and win the match! Now That was brilliant.

My favourite would have to the 2007 Playoff Quarterfinal 1st leg. Was my first season, a game against sheffield (everyone said we'd lose), and we won. Felt a real chance of winning Playoffs. Some good goals, a hard game, some nice rough stuff. Awesome game.
Favourite single period was against Coventry in january this season where we completed ruled them for the first period.
Charity shield last season was a good season starter game too. Great entertainment.

Kim that game was pretty incredible. Also the same season in the group stages of the playoffs we beat you 7-6 I think at HOS. Was also a cracking game from memory. However in terms of standard of hockey it doesnt come close. One of my favourite games I saw was the first year of the ISL and we drew with Ayr 0-0 in Sheff. No goals but the standard of play was exceptional from both sides. Awesome attacking play, great defensive plays and stunning Goaltending. Was end to end for almost the entire game. I think both goalies faced 30-35 shots each. Also there are many games that were amazing due to the circumstances. The first ISL playoff final against you. Think you scored after about a minute but we tied it up at the end of the first. Then possibly one of the best plays Iv ever seen - Kovacs chased down Premak, negated the icingh, levelled Premak into the boards and popped the puck out front to Lafreniere, who I think had enough time to go to the beer off, drink his can of special brew before he froze Robbins with an awesome deke and fired home. Also that year, your semi against Ayr that went to about 6 periods of OT. That was one of the most immense games Iv ever seen, probably the best Iv watched as a neutral (well almost, I was singing Flower of Scotland with the Ayr fans a lot through memory!). Not the way i remember it either, if i remember correctly steelers had a man in the box anyway and the puck was iced down panthers end, weber and kovacs went to pick it up but weber got there first so kovacs nailed him on the boards where weber stayed down, leaving kovacs to pick up the puck and have the whole net to shoot at. Now i know the steelers were shorthanded at the time but the ref should have stopped play for a man down and not forgetting the penalty that SHOULD have been called on kovacs, oh well steelers always had the roll of the dice their way when it came to the men in charge!!!

Like I say Tex my memory is not what it was, but honestly do you think play should have been stopped? If it had been the other way around you would say exactly what I am going to say - Kovacs dropped him, passed the puck straight out front to Lafreniere who fired home. It happened in a matter of about 3 seconds. Whether Weber was injured or not (cant remember) 3 seconds is absolutely no time at all and he may have just been winded and got up after another second or so. Im sorry but the ref does not need to immediately stop play every time a player goes down, unless it is either a penalty or a head injury.
Now whether Kovies hit was legal or not is another matter. That I cant tell you, but through memory I thought it was legal. If not then fair do's, a penalty should have been called.
How I wish it was true that we always got the luck when it came to the officials! The number of instances where we have not got the bounce probably averages out the times we did. Just like most teams.

Only one choice for me, one little game against Newcastle in 2001.
One game remained, one play-off spot remained. We were bottom, Newcastle were one spot and two points ahead of us. Winner takes all. We'd been a mile off in January until a shrewd coaching addition (whose name i cannot remember) had boosted our fortunes. The Great Escape was on.
Despite this upturn in fortune we incredibly still hadn't won away in that entire season, we still boasted a large travelling support however. Those fans had a lot to cheer too as before long we were 2-0 up and cruising. Then the comeback came, 2-1 quickly changed into the Viper-safe zone of 2-2 and before long we were left with only a face-off in their zone to save our entire season. 10.1 seconds remained, "empty net, all or nothing". The Newcastle fans were already there, the fat irritating Geordie to our left was leading a chant of 'We're going to the play-offs' until, with one last beat the skin of her drum ripped and the sound echoed away. It was to be an omen...
Hadden won the face-off, fed it back to Hoffman, he switched the play left to 'Chocolate' Bob Nordmark and the rest is history. Colin Fray went mental, the Panthers block erupted. 4.4 seconds remained on the clock, no time at all for Newcastle to respond. We'd made it, the Great Escape was complete.
Let's not mention the absolute anti-climax of the actual play-off campaign though, bar the 5-0 drubbing of our lovely Yorkshire neighbours mind...

Not so much a game but a moment, Helens already mentioned it and I remember it with the same fondness: Kim Ahlroos' 60:53 GWG in Shuff. I'll never forget the feeling of pure elation. I'm so glad I was there. I've still got the shirt Kim signed for me. Such a shame Payette did for him, he was a real gent and a talented player.
Thanks also for reminding me of the Lock out season Stef, many happy memories!

Is this 'best game seen' in a purely Panthers sense? I've not been following them that long really so have few 'best games' to speak of. The best hockey game I ever saw though happened on 26th March 1997,

There have been so many games over the years, from about 1983 but certainly the 5 - 5 draw with Fife stands out, as does the "Norwich Union" Cup Final victory, at the NEC,again over Fife with that goal from Layton Errat in OT and then there was the Wembley Final win over the Ayr Bruins in 1989. I also remember a game against Manchester Storm back in 1999/2000. It was my new girlfriends first ever hockey game and we got to LPS a little late we just sat down as they dropped the puck for the start of the game and within 20 seconds Panthers had scored, obviously we all lept up to celebrate the goal, all exect my girlfriend, who sat there wondering what they hell had hit her!! Eleven years laters she's a big Panthers fan and she's also my wife ;D Then, hopefully, there will be the Playoff Final win in April............. ;D ;D ;D
