I'd go along with you Doughnut except to say that Ferrari's attitude is "guilty unless proven innocent". McLaren weren't penalised exactly because no one can prove they have benefitted - not even Ferrari. Ok, their guy had a dossier. Why and to do what with are open to both doubt and question. And let's not forget that even this year Ferrari have had to modify their car because it was illegal. Pot, kettle, black?

that has to be this weird british mentality we have been moaning for years about schuey winning all the time, then we get a great young brit who has been nothing short of a rookie genius and people want to shoot the guy down in flames, any other country would treat him like a national hero and give him their support. Never mind Jenson DC is worth a shout as well, he is doing well for red bull!

Never mind Jenson DC is worth a shout as well, he is doing well for red bull! Agreed. And what's more is he's the first F1 driver I've seen in ages (Barrichello being a possible exception) that actually seems like a decent bloke out of the car too!

My favourite driver is alonso but i have always like alonso and the way he drives since he has been driving a formula 1 car and that includes when he was driving for minardi and i dont like him just because he has won 2 world championships like some people would think.

Not sure about Alonso he is a great driver but after his trick in the pits he went down a bit in my estermation sort of thing you used to expect from schuey! I can understand his frustration he probably thought he was going to Mclaren as the no 1 driver not as equal to a rookie.
Lewis has been so good this season that Alonso will have a fight on his hands to catch him for the world title and that will make him technically the no 2 driver now, and also perhaps somebody should have mentioned that ron dennis helped to fund lewis's climb through the ranks into F1, so if push comes to shove it will be bye bye Alonso, Renault want him back!
In the end though we have a rookie driver who kept Kimi at bay all through the hungarian GP driving like he had been in F1 for years and for the first time i felt this guy may just pull it off this year! One thing is for sure he will win a few titles over the next few years best natural talent since Senna with the steely edge of Prost, and with the best bit he is a BRIT and a nice guy!

If Kimi had been in front then he would have won too. Hungary is no test of driver skill in all honesty. The guy in front at turn one wins. Also don't really think it was fair on Alonso. Sure he blocked Lewis but Lewis was busy thinking he knew best. Alonso's actions only affected Lewis so Alonso should have been at worst second on the grid. Docking Mclaren points was petty. Both drivers acted off their own backs. I think now that Alonso or Hamilton will win the title if only because they can finish 2nd or 3rd every race. Kimi, or Massa, must win every time or else.

I don't think McLaren should've had their points docked for this (can't help wondering if it was to redress them getting let off the hook over the whole Stepney-gate business). It wasn't team orders that caused it, it was a mardy driver throwing his toys out of the pram.
I do think Alonso should have been punished more rather than less though. He deliberately and needlessly prevented another driver from attempting another qualifying lap. That's cheating. When Schui did that at Monaco he got shunted to the back of the grid.
Of course Kimi would have won if he was in front, the point is he wasn't. As for the circuit not being a test of driver skill: bbc.co.uk - "The hot and dusty Hungaroring is tough for drivers " Martin Brundle - "a street circuit without the houses" Kimi - "Maybe the track is not one of the most fascinating ones, but it is really challenging"
It is hard to overtake there though, but having said that Mansel won from 12th, Prost managed to go from 10th to a v close 2nd and a few years back Ralf Schumacher went from last to 4th.

I figured this thread may as well be revived and stickied - there seems to be a lot of F1 threads cropping up these days.

Certainly looks that way anyways. I think it's more McLaren trying to show it aint just them thats cheated. Might mean their previous fine is reduced should renault also be found guilty of stealing technical data.

Hope he's more of a team player than Alonso was! It'd be pretty hard not to be eh?!!! Good riddance to eyebrow man - and welcome to the new kid. Bring on the new season.

So what do you all think for this year? Is Kimi going to defend his title or will Lewis do what he should have done last year? Is Button finally going to stop whining and start driving? (as you've gathered, I'm not a Button fan!)
Roll on Oz next weekend!

I reckon I agree with the bookies this year. Raikkonen the favourite followed by Hamilton, Massa then roughly equal odds for Kovalainen and Alonso. www.oddschecker.com/motor-sport

Have to say i think hamilton and afew other young drivers will suffer abit with no Traction control, however the new bost button to open up the destriction for overtaking is amazing. But still think hamilton will be up there. But Kimi for me. Love Ferrari always have with schu and still do now.
Defo a 5 horse race on and off all season between kimi, massa, hamilton, kova and and alonso.
Roll on sat/sunday

Tipping Massa again this year. He was unlucky last year, and if he had kimi's reliability would have won the title. I know cheating a bit, but after quali alonso will be where he deserves to be - in the midfield. Great to see Honda improving though - as a supporter of Rubens for the last 15 odd years, it would be great to see him end his career with a bit of a battle, and a few points.

I can't wait for tomorrow (early) morning. Stayed up last night to watch qualifying. I wasn't disappointed!

F1 is to return to BBC1 Good news as far as I am concerned. I don't like the interupted (for adverts) coverage on ITV.

I'm not a fan of the adverts on ITV and hated them when ITV first got the gig. But ITV's F1 coverage is a lot better than I remember the BBC coverage being. If the BBC can maintain (or increase) the standard of coverage that ITV provide as well as getting rid of the adverts then I'm all in favour.

F1 is to return to BBC1 Good news as far as I am concerned. I don't like the interupted (for adverts) coverage on ITV. I just hope they do it justice, I have become accustomed to watching qualifying now, and would really hate it if auntie beeb took this away from us. I also feel that the team now on ITV are doing a really good job, James Allen has got rid of been Murrays replacement and Martin Brundle is a legend, I dont want the beeb wheeling out Mansell, Hill, Herbert or any of the other non charisma personnel on there, heathen forbid Linekar, Barker or Stubbs get the gig. The beeb need to step back and look at how they murdered the coverage of MotoGP, look at Eurosports coverage, fantastic, then look at their own not quite live, shot in 4.3 rubbish. Is F1 going to be in HD, I have emailed the BBC looking forward to their response.

The ITV team do a superb job, their coverage is excellent Brundle IS a legend. Even the adverts aren't too damaging to some processionary races, although that may change this season with traction control gone. Especially as it seems the Ferrari boys struggled without it in Oz.
Hope that Brundle can blag a contract at the Beeb.
