Steelers are painting the ice: www.sheffieldsteelers.co.uk/news/?id=4522Im impressed actually as much as I hate to admit it. Think of it from a new players POV, you turn up in edinboro or bstoke and look around or your turn up and see that!

That looks like somebody had a dodgy pint the night before and couldnt hold it in.
You are going to need sun glasses watching that!

a bit "busy" as someone put on steeltalk...
And thats putting it mildly. As said though... itll probably bea lot more refined when the ice is re laid

Although undoubtedly a tribute to the signwriter's art, I personally feel that covering the ice with large patches of colour won't benefit either the goalies or the spectators, as the ice adverts will make it very easy to lose sight of the puck in them. Interesting from the photograph also, that despite all and sundry having their adverts on the ice, there isn't a single one on the boards! Perhaps when they retire Rocket Ron's shirt number, they'll paint that into the ice too?

Having been involved with ice painting before, it will stay that bright as long as someone can be bothered to look after it and cut the ice correct. Ever noticed that the NIC it will look duller than normal at times? I remember someone telling me it all depends on how they cut the ice. If they use hot water in the Zamboni then air bubbles dont form when it freezes. If cold water is used, air bubbles give the ice a cloudy look and it dulls the paintwork.

Also hot water makes for a better ice. Hot water melts the top layer then re-freezes meaning the ice is one solid layer. Cold water justs adds a layer on top which is prone to chipping and cracking.
I love the Discovery Channel!

That's absolutly barmy! Looks mental.
It also looks as if someone slid through the crease a few times whilst the paint was wet, as there seems to be some blue staining just to the left of it in that picture. Maybe it's some sort of pattern, but from that angle I can't make it out.

From the picture it looks a little too much on the ice for my liking, especially down the middle with the two large areas of blue right next to the blueline. However I don't have to look at it week in, week out

I like it I must admit. The 'blue stain' is another logo in the end zone. And for info there are no dasher ads up yet although I am lead to believe they are 95% sold out. Thats a job for another day!

yea but wasnt there that thing about having a blue rink making the puck easier to follow?
There is a youtube video on steeltalk that has a euro rink with even more ads crammed on!

To be honest, I think it looks 'tacky'. Advertisments in big bold colours all over the ice makes it look as though there is no one 'major' sponsor.
I think ice hockey, like other sports eg cycling, where the shirts are covered all over with logos, distracts from the identity of the club.
Bit OTT up at the Tin Shed

True.... youve only got too look at euro shirts where most clubs seem to have so many sponsors there is hardly space for any form of recognisable logo
